Will be interesting to see him in the Championship. He's had two underwhelming loan spells, but those were in the Premier League.

He's either completely washed and hopeless, or dropping down a level may ignite him.
He will need time to get match fit having hardly played any matches for some time. Let’s not expect miracles from him.

For anyone expecting miracles I think we need to cut Kalvin some slack.
If he's a bit slow off the starting block it wouldn't surprise me, so give him time to integrate,
on the other hand if he hits the ground running we have a potentially class act at this level.

That's how I see it.

It has been rumoured that Wilder has been keen to sign him for a while, so due diligence regarding fitness and (more importantly) attitude will have been done. Bamford and Shackleton will have helped with the latter and I doubt he would be here if he was a bad egg, but the former may be a bit more of a risk.

So Wilder will have a decent idea what he is getting in terms of a package, whereas we only know what we saw when he was a mainstay in the England team and his loan spells. It's an up and down picture overall.

I am not expecting too much beyond DM cover for now. I hope that he will add a dash of quality to the matchday squad, rather like Jairo has done.

Blokes played very little football the last few years, and when he has it has not gone well. Sounds like he's not been injured, but can't imagine he'll be anywhere close to match fit.

Not much to lose besides a bit of money, but I'm fairly confident this won't work out.

This guy was the heartbeat of England in 2021. But one of those players who were world beaters but joined the wrong club at the right time. Phillips at City, caroll for Liverpool, Drinkwater, F.Torrres & Barkley Chelsea, Sanchez Manu, Hazard RMadrid etc.

If you’d have said to me a few years ago we’d bee signing him I’d have thought we would be in Europe. It’s still a great signing and shows we’re still going for it this season.

As a wet flannel shouldn’t you be very confident rather than fairly confident that it won’t work out.

One thing I do find odd is... why was this a deadline day signing? City obviously have no use for him and It was very unlikely anyone in the prem would take the punt after him playing 7 minutes all season & not pulling up any trees in recent loan spells. Could have got this done early Jan and given him more time to get up to speed.

It seems to take us ages to do deals. Probably been working on it since October.

I imagine we were open to doing the deal earlier, but him and his agent were probably thinking they could do a lot better. In the end he’s come to us at the last second with nothing better being on the table and now he can nip to his mums for Sunday dinner.

At least you’ll have the pleasure of not being disappointed.
If it doesn’t work out, you’ll be content you were right.
If it does work out, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
For you, it’s nothing but upside.

Others in the Championship will be looking at this and thinking WOW what a signing, and then look at the last few years of his career. Only a handful of games for City, 8 games at West Ham in 23-24 and was it 16 for Ipswich last season? Likes to get stuck in but seems to pick up too many cards, criticised by Pep for being out of shape it never worked for him at City, a step-down to this level could be just what is needed to get him back on track after playing just 6mins of football this season. Then again, Man City didn't suit Jack Grealish either, could be a great signing if fit and Wilder can calm him down a little.

To put some wins together we need to stop giving soft goals away. I’d imagine he will help the defence out a lot as well as giving added freedom to the likes of Hamer.

Looking forward to seeing how he fits in.

Ipswich pal said he looked spent last season.
Couldn't fault his attitude, but apparently wasn't up to the PL anymore.

Said he thinks he could still boss the Championship though.

Close to home seems to be key for him. I think his confidence has been shot to pieces and even in this interview a bit downbeat. Human side of a player really matters and if he is away from all the ctitical atmosphere at city and home to his family and local mates rather than stuck in digs miles away like Ipswich it’s going to help him with confidence and attitude. This is his chance to turn a corner and if it starts going well for him here after such a long downturn we could have a Ross Barclay at Luton situation on our hands. GLTTL.

Agreed - Wilder will see this as a challenge he loves! Also think Wilder would have taken him from Leeds the year we went up in 2019 & they missed out - but we could not afford him. I bet Wilder is buzzing over this signing.
