The solution is simple. Ban anyone called Darren from refereeing. Darren Bond, Darren Deadman, Darren England. I rest my case.

I doubt there's anything we can do about last night's result but we can ask that he doesn't officiate any more of our games. That might be a way forward.

What's disappoints me is him coming from close to home, not saying he's a cheat but it lays him open to this bad decision by powers that be and there was loads of unemployed refs last night.

And surely this is the key point.

On a night when there were only 2 other domestic matches taking place, with dozens of referees available, the Football League (or whoever is in charge of these things) chose to appoint a referee from Barnsley to referee a game in Sheffield. It was a cretinous decision by the Football League. In the event of any poor decisions, whichever way they had fallen, the appointment created the potential for accusations. Had Walsall been on the wrong end of crucial decisions, they too would justifiably have been questioning why a referee from South Yorkshire had been appointed to the game.

As it is, it was us that got stitched-up. The replay shows that Sharp's 'goal' plainly went in off his chest - and the assistant referee who had the better view of the incident, saw nothing amiss and started heading back to the half-way line for the re-start. Unfortunately, for us, this clown England, who would have needed x-ray vision to have seen anything at all from his position on the pitch, chose to disallow it on the basis of no evidence whatsoever.

The fact that he gave us a penalty doesn't mitigate things either. The idiot had to give one eventually, given that Walsall's defenders had been playing goalie-wag, for the entire game. It was getting embarrassing.
