Couldn't possibly have been that he did a brilliant job at Derby and got aaverage team promoted and has since suffered due to his success and ability to get teams to perform and get results? From day one no one expected derby to stay up, that was a bridge too far for any manager.

I don't think this is the case at all. I think the Derby squad proved to be out of its depth in the Premier League, as Paul Jewell is slowly finding out.

The squad Davies took up, by rights shouldn't have been there, as I don't believe them to be good enough. But he managed to do it, so credit where credit is due.
