I reckon we need to channel all our resources into 2 new strikers and maybe an attacking winger if there's any cash left.

What we need is the board and manager to come together, spend a sufficient amount of money and get us out of this friggin league.Get atleast one striker, and a good one at that,a solid commanding CB and play our best players in their best positions.Come on now Blades, deliver!

Goalkeeper: think Turner's contract was only till Jan - sign him back up

Defender: an attacking right back (Brayford would be amazing, but highly unlikely). If Collins is going a younger (but not too much) replacement

Midfielder: McGinn out and replaced by someone like Wallace who's not always injured

Strikers: Porter (both of them) out replaced by 2. I'd keep Hidgon, think he'll end up coming good

There's only one Chris Porter! Sorry about that.

I agree that Higdon will come good but still think we need two more - one talisman and one fit and able for cover.

I believe that to get into the playoffs AND be able to compete, we need (this week not at the end of January )

1 x RB - good defensively but also good going forward
1 x CH - commanding in the air and with a bit of pace
2 x CM - both big, physically strong, with pace and able to play decent football ( will only need one if Wallace gets a divorce from the physio )
2 x CF - at least one of them big, strong and good in the air and both with pace.

Failing this we will achieve mid-table obscurity this season due to our well documented deficiencies in this "agricultural" division.

Whatever we need we won't get it. We'll borrow something we don't need.

This transfer window , in my mind , is one of the most important in SUFC history , to gain promotion .The right calibre of players have to be brought in to the club . If not the progression and development of SUFC and the young blood of players , will not succeed . The Harry affect will happen to the younger talented players , and the blades will have no option to sell the likes of Reed and co , not that SUFC will want to sell them ( as in the past ) , but because they will want to leave , to improve ,enhance there own careers , and be paid more money , which they may think or actually deserve.

Forget the cup , and the thought / realisation ,that our football is better suited to a higher league tier . The cup games are just a nice to have . Priority for the clubs development has to be to get out of league 1.

This is the reason we have to get promotion this season , and is be all and end all . Mr Clough has no room for manoeuvre , or mistakes , if not achieved ,because the consequences if not , are too great.

Squad is far too big - we need to ship out 7 or 8 of those and replace with 2 or 3 of genuine quality. Sadly I can't see many offers coming in for the fringe players which will affect who we can afford to get in.

What do we need? A miracle if you listen to some.

We have so many players and could probably field two teams of almost equal merit.

Trouble is we don't have enough high quality players, certainly not enough game changers. Import two game changers and we can get promoted but with Clough's record it's highly unlikely, though I do accept O'Grady would have been a step in the right direction.

Players with quality and a balance of game changing strengths will be the difference between success and failure . If Mr Clough , the board and investors ,have the nerve to spend the money required to purchase this kind of player ( asset) , then we will know the intent of the club to make promotion , by whatever means , a reality .

It will also show how good a manager Mr Clough is , with money available . The positive for all who have the power at the lane , is that the cup run does show what we can actually do , if we get out of this league , and apply our football in a higher tier.

We do have a big squad , but with the addition of quality and game changers , we would get out of this league.

Risk , and problems is what they get paid for to resolve .Lets see what this month brings , which would help the solution with transfer movement this week , as every lost day becomes critical.

Failure will not only see fans not renewing season tickets or paying at the turnstile , but young players will want to leave due to perceived lack of the clubs ambition and commitment.

I totally agree with you here and there is a significant element of URGENCY imho, we cannot wait until the end of the JTW scramble like we usually do ( followed by the usual tired excuses and fax machine issues ) we need players in place BEFORE we play Preston on Saturday. Failing that, lets get busy dumping ice on the surrounding streets until we do get some players in.

Just because we CAN compete with higher League teams in the Cup doesn't mean we can turn our crappy performances around in this Division, because we don't have the players suited to this Division in our current squad.
