Jose Baxter, one of an elite bunch of players who had promising careers that nose-dived. In Jose's case, his nose dived towards a few lines of white powder.

Must be the highest ever FIFA rated player on potential to have ever played for us?
I can't think of anyone else who has played for us with that high, period.I can't think of anyone else who has played for us with a potential that high.
He was very good in the first Clough season culminating in a goal in the cup semi final (if my memory isn’t failing me).Did he ever have a good game for us? The word on the street was if he could stay off the gear he'd be world class.
Some of these "Could have been a contender" types were really just carthorses, but Baxter looked pretty decent on occasion. Not Messi and Fabregas decent, but then I used to get a lot of mileage out of Brian Tinnon on Champ back in the day.Did he ever have a good game for us? The word on the street was if he could stay off the gear he'd be world class.

His free kick v Oldham was the very epitome of the thunderbastardEven when Baxter was decent, it was generally ‘moments’ rather than actually having a good game. Evidently talented lad, but didn’t have the work rate, the drive or the self-discipline to keep away from the narcotics to ever really make it as a pro footballer. Such a waste.
