Must be the highest ever FIFA rated player on potential to have ever played for us?

I can't think of anyone else who has played for us with a potential that high. Most tend to be 80 potential.

Just a note on Baxter it seems since retiring he has been working for Everton's academy.

Did he ever have a good game for us? The word on the street was if he could stay off the gear he'd be world class.

Some of these "Could have been a contender" types were really just carthorses, but Baxter looked pretty decent on occasion. Not Messi and Fabregas decent, but then I used to get a lot of mileage out of Brian Tinnon on Champ back in the day.

Even when Baxter was decent, it was generally ‘moments’ rather than actually having a good game. Evidently talented lad, but didn’t have the work rate, the drive or the self-discipline to keep away from the narcotics to ever really make it as a pro footballer. Such a waste.

He was very good in the first Clough season culminating in a goal in the cup semi final (if my memory isn’t failing me).

I think it is failing you.
Above comments more accurate.

He rarely imposed himself on games or controlled the tempo. He'd just do something impressive every now and again.

Just had a look at his Wiki - he’s only 32!! Managed less than 200 pro appearances in 11 years (if you discount the stint in Americas version of the conference, at a now defunct club). Such a waste of talent.

In contrast, Billy had played 100 games (and scored 60 odd goals) when Baxter made his debut in 2008… still scoring for fun in league 2 at 38.

People are kidding themselves if they think he never had good games, at times he was a class above everyone else on the pitch. But there was a reason we were probably his ceiling. Only has himself to blame, but we aren’t always privy to what goes on in others’ heads.

His free kick v Oldham was the very epitome of the thunderbastard
