I am trying to retain some degree of calm here despite my frustration at our inability to break down, yet another ordinary team, at home.
However, after a superb defence splitting pass put Forte through, one on one with the keeper I cannot believe that the lad missed it. He's not exactly a youngster, he's been around a while especially at this level and I would expect anyone who calls themselves a striker to tuck that away and we win the game 1 - 0 despite the shocking referees best efforts to frustrate us.
I was very sceptical when we signed Forte, but I have tried to give the lad the benefit of the doubt, however, I have to say - particularly with the injury to Geronimo, I think we need a proper striker in as soon as possible ( one who can score goals ) and for me, send Forte back to Southampton now.
Last season we missed promption because of a lack of competent strikers ( for various reasons ) it would be criminal to fail the same way again !!!!

There is not a player on earth incapable of missing a one on one. The lads not long since come back from injury. If he missed several chances fair enough, but having a massive go because he missed one chance? come on.

Fair point, anyone can miss a one on one, but he's not exactly inexperienced is my point.

I don't think he was the right player for us to go for at all ........

Just seen chance on Ssn (working today) why didn't he run at keeper? Take it round him, or at least get closer to goal. Instead he took forever then shot from outside box. I retract everything above, send him back.

I was going to say that we should have tried to get Mario Balotelli, but I remember he missed a great one on one chance in the Euros last summer so fuck him.
We seem to have a knack of getting pubteam standard players, Cofie was one, the point is that we pay a fortune to watch this rubbish and wilson wouldnt know a striker if it was to save his life. Screwed again.

Is this supposed to be serious?! Thought he was generally a threat and should have started - Murphy and Forte should be played together, creativity and pace.

Agree that it was disappointing that we couldn't break them down though.

Say Hello ,wave Goodbye ....please.

you do know we're in league one right? Im not sure who you're expecting us to sign, but we loads of players above pub team standard.

£20 for a game of professional football isnt a fortune when the cinema costs a tenner.

So Forte, who has been very good since his return here, has scored for us, and has generally given us another dimension; misses a chance on his return from injury and it's time to 'send him back'.

Dear fucking Christ.

Forte needed longer on the pitch, you can't blame him for that. When he does come on he plays on the left wing.

Tactical fucking genius especially when we are playing balls over the top centrally and to the right

Unreal that some are having a go at Forte to me after all the hype of Blackman going we bring in a player who at this level gives us another dimension and will prove to be great bit of business by DW.

With either Murphy or Poleon and Kitson leading the line automatic promotion is on.
To crucify Forte for one miss after a few games out is beyond belief.

One thing about Forte, of course, is that with the exception of his loan spells at Notts County, he's never been that regular a scorer. His career record is a goal every 5 and a bit games, which is not bad compared to the output of some on the books but hardly suggests a deadly finisher. Of course, given the position we put ourselves in with Blackman, we had to take what we could get at the deadline.

In short, it is not surprising that he did not put that chance away. I am still concerned that if Kitson gets injured we will have big problems.

The thing that concerns me more is effectively playing 4-5-1 at home. Warnock and Blackwell used to get pilloried for that and rightly so.

Thing is though Rev, he's been played as a left winger for a good deal of his career. Evidently, Notts chose to use him more of a striker position and he rewarded them with goals.

Sometimes it's 4-6-0 when Kitson drifts into midfield

Why does he do that?
Then we do look skint up front

Wilson should be taking the flack here, not Forte. Yes Forte missed a sitter, but that happens. Unfortunately it was our only clear chance all game. It was clear that things were not working and Wilson opted to do nowt. So it continued not to work and we still created zip. I can forgive Wilson for sticking with a winning team, but it was obvious to all 17.8k fans that SUFC would not break them down with that 4-5-1 formation. Wilson finally opted for a substitution, but did not change the formation. Poleon only got 7 fucking minutes and then we finally went 4-4-2 for the final 5% of the game. Funny that our 2 main chances were when Forte and Poleon were sent through! Had we changed things earlier and gone 4-4-2 after say 60 minutes I reckon we'd have had created more chances and had a much better chance of breaking the down. Wilson's ultra conservative approach, negative tactics and late subsitutions were at fault not Jonathan Forte.

Just about summed it up with them comments.
Couldnt stop looking at the dugout wondering when Forte and Poleon were coming on.
Players need 30 minutes to make an impact but thats what Wilson lacks, courage.

MK were never going to hurt what did he have to lose!

Yes, I agree for half the price you are sat in the warmth on a padded seat and have a better chance of thinking that's money well spent;)

I have to agree with the comments on Wilson's tactics on Saturday, I thought the second substitution was far to late. The use of Forte baffled me as well, he came on and went down the left wing, when he switched to the middle he got his chance, although he missed it, at least the chance was created. Macdonald is going through a bad patch, but playing a 4-5-1 formation, he has got no one moving for him. Last season he had Ched, Lowton and Williamson as his outlets and that is why to me he looked much better. Kitson needs someone with pace playing off him. Wilson is far to negative for me at home, and could end up costing us.

Forte making that run shows his potential. I think he hesitated a little and if he'd taken the ball across, in front of the man who chased him, he would have been able to finish better.

I hope the management gives him plenty of praise for making runs like that. He made another shortly afterwards, but the pass was slightly overhit. Poleon was also almost put clean through. We have three pacey options now, and I think two of them should be starting from now on.

I don't know if it's just me, but after an hour (70 at most) - he should have brought Poleon and Forte on for Kitson and Murphy. Stick Flynn on the left, Robson on the right and go 442 with the two lads brought on being told to run at the defence, it was obvious to me that they really did not like it when we ran at them and we should have exploited that weakness a lot further!

I can agree with that although I would have took Flynn off, Kitson at least does pose a goal threat.

I would have agreed as I felt Flynn had a poor one, but thought that Murphy was rightfully taken off on this occasion given he's only just back from injury
