Losing Rob Staton & Jonathan Buchan pretty much at the same time was a big blow for RS, they were always going to be difficult to replace.

When we beat Man U in the FA Cup in 1993 he did the BBC Radio 5 commentary. I recorded it on a C120 cassette and the following day flew to Germany for work and listened to it in my Walkman.

Just before kick off, as the crowd noise built he said “ this is the sound of Sheffield, this is the sound of Bramall Lane” and it still makes me shiver all these years later.

Why have the greatest respect for them? they have managed to run the show down because they were not respectful of many callers. Thats why they are down to the same few.

I've not listened regularly for years.

Paul Walker did go through a spell of patronising callers too often but it was the boring self publicising callers that turned me off rather than the presenters.

As for the current journalists/presenters, I know little about them or very rarely listen, so I don't see a problem stating what I did seeing as I'm not in a position to fairly comment on their professionalism.

The presenters have more patience than I’ll ever have. As soon as I got a caller saying ‘Wilder’s gorrit wrong aggeean’ I’d tell them to fuck off and put the phone down. And as for the others ‘hello it’s Mark’ ‘nope’ click.
