John Lundstram 'set to leave Sheffield United in January'

It won’t be just £5 or £10K a week extra though.

I can imagine United offering him £20K a week tops
.....our arguement is that he’s seen as a back up player...be it very important back up...so he’ll see plenty of game time...but mainly sub.
His whole time at BL he’s never been that impressive when starting.....his best ever form was coming on as sub for about 3 months last season.
Those performances put him in the shop window...he’s proven that he has the potential to be a decent combative PL player.

His arguement is he’s not a youngster anymore and (like Duffy) won’t have made loads of money from the game.
We’ve bought Berge for big money so he’s always going to have priority.

His agent will be very confident there will be interest from bottom half teams in the PL.

I reckon he can easily command £50K a week on 4 year contract...so he’s more than doubling the offer we made him.
Sounds a lot of money doesn‘t it but the whole deal is only £10 million.....making him a very cheap outlay for a PL club.

My view is that the jury is still out on Lunny...I suspect he’ll never be consistent PL standard.
Lets not forget he was very underwhelming even at Championship level.
My prediction is he’ll join a West Ham or Villa on £50 to £60K a week and he’ll hardly start any matches.
However even if he never plays he’ll have pocketed over £10 mill less tax.....so arguably he’s had a very successful career.

If you’re being fair you can understand why he would leave....he wants to financially set himself up for life.

Totally agree. If he can be financially secure at 30 year old, can’t fault him one bit

I'll be surprised if he gets a better offer than what United are offering, yeah we don't know what he's on and we don't know what he can get but as Loughbrough (I think it was) earlier pointed out we can take a good stab. If he gets a move to another Prem club I can see his wages getting better but y'know what? I don't think anybody will move for him except maybe West Brom or Burnley and they are as poor as we are. He might go to Rangers and they are poorer (without EPL money) so he's playing his hand well but he's still only holding a 10 high.

Don't see what the problem is - CW is changing the team round and Lundstram doesn't fit into that plan at "proper" premier league wages.

He was lucky he started v Bournemouth in game 1 last season as we were chasing Berge, otherwise he may already have left.

I'll throw this one into the frying pan which will piss some off - Fleck had better watch out as he may very well be next unless he gets his finger out steps it up this season.

We should all know by now what CW is like - don't perform, don't play, gets moved on.

There are a couple more that had better watch out too - and those had better take a leaf out of "Mr Consistent" himself............Mr Basham who sets a very high bar for consistency.

Was that... was that 'The Riot Act'?

He shouldn't be playing for us now. The damage is done and lets be honest he's hardly pulling any trees up. What is it with mardy Scousers at our club (JOC excused)

You can fuck off now Lundstram.

No respect for how you've gone about your business. Believed your own hype.

You were lucky Wilder took you from Oxford and got you performing. Lucky.

Bit harsh but I think he thinks he’s a better player than he is. Maybe he will get a big contract at a glamour club like Burnley or Crystal Palace, maybe not. Whatever. We like our blades commited.

anyone else think there is more to the story? i cant believe it is just wages, we can stretch to more than Rangers any day... i reckon it is squad status... lunny wants key player status, Wilder will only provide rotation and he will be looking at strengthening midfield in January... they both cant see eye to eye so instead of pandering to JL we are walking away from it, and the feelings are mutual, JL wants first team footy week in week out so he is walking away, fair play on both sides, no hard feelings that is football! He is a scouser and will probably see himself as Rangers captain under Stevie G in a season or two... whether thats realistic is another thing...

Go on then I’ll ask. How’s he gone about his business?

For one he doesn't want to sign his new contract when all the others have.

For two he's lacking this season and if Wilder would have signed that midfielder we needed or Fleck wasn't injured he wouldn't be playing.

Drop the fucker now, Wilder. He's made his intent very clear and any half baked, game of two halves, typical Lundstram performance will now be justified.

He shone at the beginning of last season and faded past that Man U 3-3- draw at home. There's been fuck all worth keeping since.

Rather have Norwood back in and live with his limitations that give this billy big bollocks a start. Thing is, we do have a centra three of Berge - Ampadu - Fleck with Osborn and Norwood as cover, so he won't be missed.

It is painful to accept this sorry position, but the way of the football world these days.

We are unlikely to receive much at all, thinking if he is not sold in January he will go for free in the summer.

The days of player loyalty are long gone.

I don't blame Lunny, obviously the offer we have made is significantly less than he will receive elsewhere. I wager his agent has already lined up a few suitors.

A big pay day on the horizon. A substantial signing on fee (as little or no transfer fee will be paid) and big pay rise - a deal to take him to the winter of his career. He is securing his financial future in what is a short time.

If I could speculate, £3m+ signing on fee, annual salary for a five year deal say £60k per week totals £15.6m, add a few bonuses and it is nearly £20m.

Invest wisely and he will never have to work again.

It is difficult to know what the club can do. I reckon they have been trying to negotiate a new deal for sometime, difficult to achieve when we have a budget and modest wage structure, particularly if a players head has been turned.

Personally I was surprised he made the cut after we got promoted to the EPL. He did though, and he's largely done OK, with a purple patch early on last season which all made us think we'd missed something.

We can speculate all day about his contract offer but whatever it is, it's not enough for him.

If he leaves in January, so be it.

We paid £500,000 from Oxford for him and got nearly 100 appearances out of him, so we don't stand to lose much.

Why stick him in the reserves when we are already paying him and we are short of a RSM? CW will pick him as long as his attitude is right, and he has been doing.

He's trying to get what he feels his market worth is. This is where we differ significantly, hence he won't sign.

Can't see any point at all in sticking him in the reserves whilst we are paying him. If CW thinks he's right, he'll pick him.

When he leaves, he can go with our blessing, we have had our money's worth.

Although I think he's held his own this season in a team which is not getting the win but playing OK.. I genuinely can't blame him for wanting a better contract..

Just wish he was good enough to be sold before the start of the season, then he wouldn't have missed that pen, I think we'd have won that game.... And built from that, creating a better start to the season..

In short I'm blaming him for our poor start I suppose.. So good riddance from me..

It's in everyone's interest for him to keep trying but I can now see it makes sense for him to move if he isn't going to sign.

If we stay up, further upgrades to midfield would be expected. In such a scenario, he'd be one of those most at risk.

He is a prime candidate to go to the SPL:
1. He'll do well there.
2. He'll be able to get trophies to look back on which he wouldn't get in England.
3. He'll be able to set his wage level relatively high and be able to maintain it for longer.
4. He'll get to taste European football.
5. Not convinced he nails down a first team spot elsewhere other than Burnley or a team that gets relegated.

From our side:
1. Ampadu and Berge look more accomplished in DM and RCM.
2. Norwood is already very capable competition for those two.
3. There are better options at LCM when Fleck is back plus Lunny is hardly streets ahead of Osborn.
4. He's not getting a better offer.
5. Continuous speculation around him will do nobody any good.
6. Any fee now will allow Wilder to put towards a more appropriate acquisition.

And for that reason, provided we get offered more than chocolate buttons, a deal would now make sense to me.

Lunny has done ‘ok’. He tries, albeit what seems a little half heartedly, and CW likes him. Let him play if CW deems it so and, hopefully, he performs good enough for someone to fork out shekels for him in Jan rather than for free in May. I am not a Lunny fan but neither do I hold any contempt for him (except for the penalty). He seems to be a player who is above average when the going is good but not able to make the situation better if it’s bad. I don’t think teams will bust a gut to sign him except for back up. Beware the Duffy curse Lunny and good luck to you.

Who isn’t lacking this season?

He doesn’t want to sign a new contract, and? It’s up to him if he doesn’t want to.

If he wasn’t putting the effort in on the pitch I could understand but he is. If he wasn’t Wilder wouldn’t keep selecting him.

As I’ve said before, Wilder knows a damn sight more than us about how he’s ‘gone about his business’ and he seemingly has no problems with him.

Lunny is lucky there's no fans allowed in, he'll be getting stick at every home game. Personally, I'd not play him, I'd rather give someone else a shot, someone who actually wants to stay with this club. I don't know all the in's and out's but if you don't want to play for the club long-term, you're not playing for us in the short-term.

He's cashing on the name he made for himself last year, when he was in everyones fantasy team. He'll go to an average club, get more money and disappear in to obscurity when they realise how good he really is. Reminds me of when Tonge left for better things but Lundstram is not half the player he was.

Contract isn't what he wants, whether it be wages or play time, and we're not giving him what he wants. Don't think he's sandbagging his performances or attitude and don't think he'd be picked if he was. Can be very effective on his day and can also look awful on others. Nothing against him wanting to move on. I still think he's giving 100% for the club at the moment and could do a job for us, but they're not going to come to an agreement it seems. GLTTL

Let him go to Rangers where he will be a superstar of the Scots Prem, running rings around the likes of Hamilton Accies,Ross Couny and St Mirren four times a year.
He'll enjoy that.
Job satisfaction, maybe not so much .
