John Lundstram 'set to leave Sheffield United in January'

The problem we have is that that we cant win and him and his agent know that. Wilder has quite rightly made it clear we wlll not be dicated to by agents or players or break our wage structure. On the other hand the cost of Lundstram on higher money is probably less than signing a new player with sign on fee, transfer fees etc.

Wilder kept dropping the word 'Agent' into the press conferenec this morning - to me its clear there is no love lost there and who Wilder blames for this situation.

I cant help wondering what the other players think to this stance - surely senior players would at least 'Have a word' and try to make him see sense - would love to know if it ever gets mentioned beteen the squad.

Off you pop then, Lunny. Thanks very much for your contribution but time to give your shirt to someone who wants to play and run through walls for the club, make tackles and put the ball in the net when given the opportunity. UTB and there's only one Chrissy Wilder.

I really feel Wilder's pain and frustration with this one given that Lundstram owes his Premier League career and earnings status to his manager. He plucked him from League One and stuck with him and backed him when a large majority of supporters would have moved him on. To Lundstram's credit, he justified Wilder's backing, proving me and many others wrong in the process. While it's his right to make a money move, there's a strong suspicion he might move past his career high-point and make things more difficult for us in the process. Agents eh!

Maybe wilder was still hopeful of getting him to sign and therefore was more willing to play him.

If it’s clear he’s not going to sign - I don’t see why we are playing him. Ok he’s an occasional goal threat but for me he’s not in our best 3 midfielders on current form - even discounting the injury to fleck. I don’t believe he should be starting, his form in 2020 dictates that.

let’s focus on a midfield partnership that will be playing from 2021 onwards.

Lunny did well last season been off this season so far, but I'm afraid he's caught what Mark Duffy caught, and that is believing bullshit told him by his agent. He will leave in January or end of contract but sadly I see him becoming another sad "why didn't I keep me gob shut" journeyman.

I dunno, they'll be European regulars every season, that is until they meet someone above Faroe Island level anyway............
Their little jaunts into Europe will pay his wages
Where about In Liverpool are you living mate ??

I lived there for 28 years , I’m guessing you moved around a lot to reach such a conclusion

Unless his attitude is spot on - which I'm not sure it is - then he shouldn't be anywhere the first team players now. He's running down his contract, which is fair enough, but it works both ways, so a few long trips to Meadowhall I reckon.

Calm down, calm down......It was a joke (see below). Worked with many scousers over the years, some lived up to all stereotypes, some didn’t.
Just like Dee Dah’s really...Doh!

I'd bet that he's off on a free to Rangers. 3 Year deal at £35000 a week. Probably double what United offered him. We could do with his goals, but has failed to match the standards of last season.
Ampadu, Osborn and Berge are all young lads, bound to improve with a good run in the team. No big loss.

Nowhere near our best player so shouldn’t be the highest paid !

Ha ha mate, if anyone suggests you go into comedy I would wait until you are out of work, you need some time to spend on your material 😛

Again I'd be shocked if they were to [ay him more than we would (esp since Covid), their wage bill last year was just over £30m and that was for everybody (>200). Now with Covid they will be about £30m shy for this year so unless they are planning on running up huge debt again, this doesn't make sense.

Companies House strikes again.

Not sure why comments like disloyal are being banded around because he won't sign. Why should he if he doesn't like the deal?
I personally think he massively punched above his ability for a few months last season, and good luck to him if he think he can do better, I certainly wouldn't be breaking the bank to keep him.
My only concern is that while he has a contract with us he needs to continue to deliver on that and not cause disruption or any negative fallout from this not being agreed, and there are noises that maybe this isn't the case. Of course that could just be people making stuff up.

I have said my bit on Lunny but I am disappointed that we didn't make a stronger move for a midfielder in the summer. He was offered a contract in January and still hadn't signed it by August then I think it was fair to say he wasn't interested in staying.

Much like the JOC injury situation this is just something else that has helped fuck us so far this season.

But he's still here, so we have a warm body in that position? If you replaced him, you'd just be paying the extra wages and losing more from your transfer funding.

I just hope that the contract offer has now been withdrawn.I'm not of fan of Lunny. But can see him signing it if no-one comes in for him, and us being stuck with him for the next few years.Monty Mk2
I'm suprised Chris has been so naive on this, anyone else would have been shown the door.

To listen to those on here who talk about loyalty, I wonder if they have ever moved jobs because the money and/or prospects were better ?
If they did then fine, but don’t criticise JL for doing the same. Only criticise if he doesn’t fulfill his contract by not playing/training as well as he can.

It is painful to accept this sorry position, but the way of the football world these days.

We are unlikely to receive much at all, thinking if he is not sold in January he will go for free in the summer.

The days of player loyalty are long gone.

I don't blame Lunny, obviously the offer we have made is significantly less than he will receive elsewhere. I wager his agent has already lined up a few suitors.

A big pay day on the horizon. A substantial signing on fee (as little or no transfer fee will be paid) and big pay rise - a deal to take him to the winter of his career. He is securing his financial future in what is a short time.

If I could speculate, £3m+ signing on fee, annual salary for a five year deal say £60k per week totals £15.6m, add a few bonuses and it is nearly £20m.

Invest wisely and he will never have to work again.

It is difficult to know what the club can do. I reckon they have been trying to negotiate a new deal for sometime, difficult to achieve when we have a budget and modest wage structure, particularly if a players head has been turned.

Bang on mate

And for balance, as you have mentioned it’s football not just players, what did we do with Leon etc who helped us only to be marginalised or moved on once we had progressed
Just the way it is I’m afraid

This could easily happen with more players, we pay less than the average in the league. Not signing the contract means better wages with no fee involved. If he signed a new contract the transfer fee would be something like 3-4 years wages. Jeff Hendrick did similar, Ryan Fraser and surely a few more. Agents advice surely, they surely have been in talks with possible new clubs. I'm more concerned keeping our contracted players. As for Lundstram, think he's got some undeserved sticks, he's playing as good as he can and has had no little impact in the past year. Just maybe he/agent know we'll bring in another CM i january. (Swift!)

that’s the disappointment of the summer window for me too

we knew JOC wasn’t right and Lundstram potentially/probably wouldn’t sign - we managed to spend £50m and rightly or wrongly neither of those 2 areas was addressed. Our position is self inflicted in terms of being without cover.

It remains to be seen how Brewster / ramsdale and bogel do - but perhaps there’s money spent that could have been better utilised. Better back up at LCB and a midfielder and the situation/season might look different.

That said it’s not that long until January. We just have to pick up some wins in the interim to keep us in the mix.

Why do we need to replace someone who is going to be here all season? If he left we’d have replaced him.
