Outgoing? John Fleck

Tufty made him vice-captain, which suggests he ain't gonna run the master ballslinger outta town anytime soon.

I'm delighted we have two proper footballers complementing each other delightfully in a midfield playing the right way. They have different qualities, which is all to the good, but both are high quality players. I don't think there's a cigarette paper between them. I bet they don't either:

What odds you giving me? :)

Unthinkable to most of us at the moment, of course. But...

Unlikely?

Entirely possible?

Absolutely probable?

Has anyone else noticed that we have rather a lot of midfielders at the club presently and we are still looking to add more? Lundstram should sign this week and we have still not given up on Leonard apparently. Why?

There were rumours a while ago that Rangers may be in for Fleck, although after his performances last season I'm sure they won't be the only ones to be taking notice of him.

Given United's tradition of making profits every year on player sales, Fleck could be used as a pawn in the game to raise funds to allow us to replace him with a similar type player (Leonard) and make a handsome profit at the same time.

Something is not quite right with the goings on down there at the moment. It's as though there's some kind of bottleneck that is blocking certain players coming in - and I suspect that's financial. The sale of another one of our better assets may well be seen as the remedy - so I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see us cash in on a player who cost us no fee at all.

I hope not - but United have long since stopped surprising me.

A lot of midfielders?? We're very very light in the centre of the park. First team wise we only have coutts and Fleck. The rest are wingers or no10s. CW said in his interview after the rotherham game that were light there and need more bodies. I don't think we will let Fleck go. He's building the team around that central pairing of Fleck and coutts.

Ah! So wingers and number 10's don't count as midfielders then? So that means Tony Currie wasn't a midfielder then? Blimey, all these years I've been calling him the best midfielder I've ever seen, and now you've educated me that the number 10 means he doesn't qualify. I should have consulted you sooner.

I'd consider the following to be midfielders personally:

Basham
Coutts
Fleck
Carruthers
Duffy
Thomas
Done
(Reed)

And we are looking to add 2 more to that list.

Players on your list that are PROVEN to play the role that Fleck Plays:
Coutts
Fleck

Players that can potentially play the role:
Carruthers
Brooks (not on your list)

The fact that you consider Done to be a replacement for Fleck is just plain odd as he's never shown that ability for us.

People at the club who can play the Fleck role:

Fleck
Basham
(Whiteman)

All the others are more attacking, less defensive, minded.

Is this a serious post? Absolute nonsense.

There's only Fleck who can do his role at United defend and attack , whiteman possible but he's gone on loan

Basham is purely a defensive midfielder.

As much as I think Bash was immense last season I still don't see him as a midfielder and certainly not in the Fleck mould.

Fleck and Coutts are joined at the hip ,our Morecambe and wise ,hale and Pace ,Bodie and Doyle ,Collins and Doyle. Just watch them warming up before a game.Going nowhere.

It can't just be me who doesn't see Fleck as a defensive midfielder. He wins the ball high up the park, top assists and scores goals. I am hoping lundstram frees this up more.

If somebody offers an absolutely staggering amount of money Fleck like all others will be sold

About a million and a half is still staggering to Sheffield United

After reading the opening post I knew we'd be hearing from the likes of

I can assure you I'm not an idiot and my life is ok thanks. How about you? You happy with everything? You don't seem it.

I wouldn't say its an idiot post but I would say it's not a rumour is it, with no evidence at all and when people on here see the headline of Fleck Outgoing? they expect to see evidence of some sort - even if its just a crap twitter account but its just pure conjecture. I don't see that something is wrong at the minute to be fair. We've signed 5 players and about to sign another. No we haven't spent as much as we hoped but I never expected there to be big spending, based on what Wilder said at the end of last season about not breaking the bank etc.

It seems we're still looking and getting close to several deals so everything seems just fine to me, unless you had expectations of bigger spending, but it doesn't mean anything is wrong and we have to sell Fleck.

Well the club can always prove me wrong

It's just that in all my days I cannot remember them ever doing it

And I don't expect them to if an offer comes in for Fleck

For the love of all that is holy.....how many more times.

We don't have attacking midfielders and defensive ones.....we have Midfield players. All good at the main role of midfield. Some better than others, all offering something a little different.
