Maybe more, Mitrovic is apparently going for £20 million, and is 3 years younger than Beattie was when we got him but has a similar recent PL scoring record and situation, out of managers plans.

Admittedly Fulham are now in the PL but not much difference in clout between newly promoted and just relegated.

Crazy town nowadays with transfers.

Your probally right equilvant when you think assomalonga 15 & rhodes 10m. We bought an established pl striker

We dont know for certain what we have paid and to be honest I dont care I am happy we have made a very positive move in the transfer market, if we had brought in a player from division one for £300k people on here would have been having a right go at our clubs lack of ambition lets fuckin enjoy it, I am.

Sensible squad surgery this is by Wilder. He’s sorting the defence out first. It needed improving after last season and he’s just signed a first choice centre half, and probably the next club captain.

He’s a proven, consistent championship performer for a top 10 team, so the fee is bound to be high.

Now for that elusive striker. And a LWB wouldn’t go amiss either.

Wow this is a very good signing for us, he is exactly the type of player we should be looking at, bit shocked we have managed to get him but highly delighted & I am sure CW will land another one soon as well.

Sorry pal, I forgot to post the signed photo for your bedside...promise I’ll do it next week, xxx

No worries. Bedrock sent me one of his spare laminated ones. Thanks love.

Just see it as swings and roundabouts, how much did we pay for Fleck, Duffy, Coutts and JOC. Add Egan and that's a total outlay of 4.5 million tops for 5 key players.
5 AWESOME PLAYERS, if you don't mind!

Greg Cunningham has gone from Preston to Cardiff for £3.5m,Egan is a snip at £4m,we will probably spend about £10m this transfer window on four players which will make us a very competative championship team, maybe with Wilder in charge we can achieve a 'top six' finish this year.If i have one real wish this season,it is to see Paul Coutts in the famous red and white stripes again and back to his very best, that will be worth my season ticket on it's own.

CW is delighted to sign this man... with stats like this you can see why.

For a good while now, I have thought United have been a bit soft at the back and had plenty of ball playing centre halves but lacked an out and out big twat of a centre half who's only concern is getting a head on things in the mixer and clearing his lines. A talker who takes command and who owns that back line. A Chris Morgan type to compliment the easier on the eye but less stubborn defenders we already have.

I think we might just have remedied that and brought in the next Morgan. If he gives us half the service Morgs did then he will be a wonderful signing.

I'm a happy bunny with this one. CW has identified a weakness and moved to fix it. He's knows the score alright does our Chris. Also well done United for funding this one.

Decent player but the comments from Brentford fans about them having our pants down with the fee is concerning, none of them seem fussed that he's leaving.

THey all also commented on how he's better then JoC (who they think is shit still).

They have no valid opinions for me, I'll rely on those opta ones.

He'll be fine, he's not a bad player at all. I think most Bees fans find it fairly unbelievable and frankly delighted that we got £4m for him though. He would probably not have been first choice next season and then would be in the last year of his contract. This is therefore really good business by us. Maybe it says more about the market.

Oh and regarding Jack O'Connell - given that he made less than 10 starts than us, half of them as stand in left back, I think it's safe to say that John Egan is better than the Jack O'Connell we knew. It's not really a comparison though.

I guess we'll soon find out, if he's as good as Jack has been for us, it will be money well spent.

Hoping a couple of Brentford fans we know meet up with us on holiday later in the year. The hubby and me get on like a house on fire, and the Mrs is sound too. Last year she launched the most beautifully crafted, foul mouthed tirade against someone who was constantly singing Sweet Caroline I've ever heard. Nothing worse than a bad song, sung badly.

Anyway, all the best.

I didn't realise Brentford have sold Bjelland as well. Not sure their fans know either, aren't they all saying Egan can go because they have Mepham and Bjelland??

He's gone to Copenhagen on a Free.

Wasn't that one of the big sellers on the Crabtel label?

*100 greatest singalong songs featuring:

500 miles by The Proclammers
Living on a prayer by Ben Jobi
Pour some Sugar by Deaf Leaper
Sweet Caroline by Neil Desmond
and many more....

*any resemblance to actual artists and songs is coincidental and Crabtel take no responsibility.

Contract expired, any Bees fan who doesn't know that isn't a Bees fan. It will be Mepham playing on the right side (Egan's role) then possible a new left sided defender although we have two players in that position - one who can be a bit dodgy and one who's going to be awesome but is young.

Given Egan's attributes and the fact we play three central defenders I expect him to line up in the middle of the defence which will play to his strengths and negate his weaknesses. His passing role will be limited to giving the ball to either of the other centre backs or to one of the two central midfielders. We won't be expecting him to go marauding off up the wing.

You'll also probably only get £4m for him if a series of increasingly unrealistic scenarios play out. Win/win for us to pay you £1m for promotion to the Premier League.

Bjelland refused all contract offers didn't he? Strange one that - it seemed he wanted a shot at the premier league but has ended up back in Denmark.

Konsa looks a decent prospect but if you play him and Mepham at centre half you'll probably get some clangers due to their inexperience. I can't think of a single successful side which has played two relative novices at centre half - someone with the experience of Billy Sharp would cause havoc.

By Crab Industries standards it was a big seller. We sold 3. My concept idea of "Now Thats What I Call Drunken Cunts Singing at the Pool Bar" might have been a little ahead of it's time..........................

I think Bjelland screwed up. He turned down a new contract, expected to go the world cup and get his name out and get a better move. It didn't quite work out that way and we had moved on by then.

As for Egan's replacement, I reckon we'll either buy someone, or play Yoann Barbet (25 year old French cb) if not . I wouldn't have thought we'll start with Konsa.

I'm not sure anyone on here is that interested in Brentford's centreback options though. :)

I don't know the player that well, and centre backs aren't the most exciting signings, but in a way I'm over the moon with this one.

With last year's signings (bar an aging Stearman) being from the lower leagues or loanee youth prospects, coupled with the issues going on amongst the board, just the fact that we're able to make a signing like this happen is a huge boost.

Established Championship player, on a decent fee, will be asking for decent wages, and we've gone out and spent the money to make it happen. Okay, maybe we're just spending the Brooks money, but we're spending nonetheless.

If not the exact player this is exactly the kind of move we've been asking for.

We are interested because it’s context to Egan signing. Plus we’re playing each other again soon...

Bjelland by name...

I'm interested from two points of view - one is, as JD above, that it's in United's interest that Brentford's centre half options are limited as you have a decent - and more importantly well run - team. Secondly, they're now my local team (I cycle past Lionel Road on my way to work) and I've developed a parochial interest in the other side formed in 1889, playing in red and white stripes with black trim and surrounded by neighbours who aren't as big as they think they are. That said, there's only going to be one team for Balham [now Twickenham] Jnr - and it's not the Bees.

Not happy with this. Can't see where we can go with it to be honest.
EGAN pretty much spells itself, no potential for adding an E (or missing on off), no problematic "o" vs "ou" debate, I suppose we could have an Egon now and again but otherwise no fun to be had at all, must do better.

Although not overly familiar with the lad - we were found wanting at the back. Yes, not the flashest of positions to get excited about but so many points were lost due to lack of concentration/judgement at crucial times. Very happy this has been addressed.
