Perhaps @s4-blade you would like to watch this and tell me what he did wrong?
https://www.sufc.co.uk/ifollow/video-archive/
Now I know it is only the extended highlights but if you care to put the whole game on and point out what minutes he did things wrong you may get a few on your side?
Perhaps you could start by explaining why Brayford was at fault for the first goal? it looks to me as though our next defender is not positioned right as in at a diagonal to Brayford towards our goal?
There is nothing on these Highlights that suggest what you are saying about his positioning and sauntering back but as said this is only a few highlights where he looked as goood as Ched or Duffy.

Sauntering back? Wasn't he covering their player out wide on the touchline? If anything it was the other two CB's that were caught out.

Dear me, are you having your downtime from participating in the olympics this week?

Did you actually go? Or did you just watch it from a stream!

As for Brayford, he was one of few that actually tried playing the ball forward and making the runs.

Anyway you should get your carer to keep and eye on what your doing on the internet

Brayford got arms around his shoulder by CW at the end. Playing him tonight cupties him aswell, might still be a backup.

Maybe, or maybe intergrating him back in sends a message to Nigel Clough that we won't let him go on the cheap. Too right as well. Clough spent over £1.5m of our money on Brayford and if he wants him at Burton he can pay us back.

The guy's only really had a run out at Hallam and 90 minutes last night,so let''s not go overboard on slagging him off,he's still getting up to speed,as are one or two others, and unless someone comes in for him, could end up being useful back up...the 90 minutes will do him good.

After his clanger for their first goal, I decided to watch him closely.

Uhoh watch him closely alert. Usually comes with an agenda and almost never ends with "and he proved me wrong". Why anyone has this level of hatred for someone pulling on the red and white amazes me. But hey, you were watching him closely and clearly know a thing or two about professional football so who am I to question your motives.

Last season we had very few injuries and suspensions, if we say had Bash injured and Stearman suspended we would be in serious trouble with only Wright as cover at the back. No wonder why CW wants another CB.
Till then Brayford is a cover. Still a long way to aug. 31th. There will be late arrivals, and loans will start next week with the Prem. squades finalized this week.

I did try to watch him closely, via a stream from John Street, so got a good look at him first half. What I can say is that when the rest of the team, for some reason, were content to push just into Walsall's half and then pass it sideways or backwards (Adkins would have been proud), Bray was the only one I saw who was actually looking to play with pace and move the ball forwards. He was actually waving playings forwards at times, encouraging them to be brave and run into the next slot to link up down the wings.

He was positive when all around him were happy to play keep ball with no end result.

Brayford has been told he's not wanted, didn't get given a squad number, barely appeared in pre-season it would be little wonder that he doesnt feel particularly motivated. Whatever his wages, thats not really his fault. Neither is the fact he came back from injury and hasn't been the same since. Last season he was sent out on loan, again more to do with wages than anything else and not really his fault.

2 years ago The majority loved him. By all accounts it appears most think he had a decent game last night, yet let's have a threat bashing him anyway. Crackers

Also, while I'm in a ranty mood. The referee - fuck me. The only time we got anything was when brooks literally walked off the pitch after the 39th foul. And the penalty, the ball was hit that hard, the decision was barely comprehensible, just looked on at the buffoon pointing absolute stunned. Get deadman back. Special mention to the south stand side lineman as well, must have a family of women because he had no fucking idea what the tossing offside rule is. Fuck off.

This is the ONLY thing I agree with you on, the officiating last night was beyond a fucking joke.

Once Baldock is fit he hasn't got a prayer of playing for us at RWB, he'll be 3rd choice. But theres a chance, albeit a slim one that he might be on the bench this weekend if JOC's shiner doesn't heal up.

Basham - Stearman - Wright with Brayford on the bench. It'd either be him or Lafferty to come in if injury occurred.

Hope to god he is fit mind, because we're lacking a bit of pace and athleticism if he doesn't play against the quickest frontline we're likely to play apart from Fulham (including Brentford)

I was one of Beard's biggest fans - with my Fear The Beard T- shirt, masks, false beard at Wembley etc. Somebody on here said they thought he was OK tonight, but the point is that OK is not OK for The Beard. Although, he's a good footballer his real value was his attitude, his energy and his commitment. The place lifted every time he got the ball and surged forwards. Remember Jim Phipps - He's not just a full back, he's John Brayford.

Well tonight he was an OK defender - maybe at fault for the goal, I haven't looked at the video. But he wasn't John Brayford.

Do you think....they've come here?

I have stopped watching people closely since the caution.....................

Utter garbage. No effort, no passion, no attempt to do his job adequately. Did nothing all night other than stand out of position and casually saunter back when they are attacking and then careless toss away possession every time he got it. Get this wage thieving tosser out of our club now. Dean Hammond returns.

I actually thought Brooks wasn't great last night. Am I allowed to say that about the messiah?

Hopefully its a sign we intend to keep him and get him back playing for the Blades, as I said in previous posts it would be the preferred out come of the whole Brayford will he go to Burton stuff, hopefully with Wilder on side he can show us again why we loved him so much first time around.

So, s4-blade, you post (in my opinion) an unnecessary, unpleasant and offensive rant, which also everybody (in their opinion) disagrees with.

Now what are you going to do?

Original post is totally unfair in my opinion. The 2 wing backs against Walsall are natural wingers, and offered little defensive cover. The back 3 were having to cover the width of the pitch, and it was no surprise that we got caught out down the wings. Bradford played ok, especially after Basham came on, and Brayford went to wing back. There was good interplay with Duffy and Evans, and that area became the main threat. His performance was one of the better ones.

If I was John Brayford and reading some of the bile from so-called Blades fans I'd find it difficult to pull those glorious Red & White stripes over my head, let alone try to impress the berks once I stepped onto the field. However, whilst John doesn't necessarily possess the crocodile hide that Ched has had to develop, I suspect he's tough enough to take it on his grizzled chin and if given a chance might take delight in spooning that bile back down their throats.
It's starting to look bleak for the Ched-haters; maybe the Brayford-baiters will get their come-uppance too. I wonder if some of them also assessed a younger Billy Sharp through the same dark coloured glasses when he was doing all the donkey-work labouring under the dreadful stewardship of previous managers.

RB in 'not playing amazingly at CB' shocker.

Who'd have thunk it.

And whilst we're at it, wasn't it his commitment to the cause that led to playing him out of position at CB, which in turn led to him need to bail McEveley out, which in turn led to the injury and loss of form that started this whole sorry mess?

Having watched the game myself ....... the conclusion that I drew from this was that none of the first 11 will feel threatened at all :(

Brooks probably did enough to get on the bench vs 'boro and Eastwood did himself no harm for the future, but the rest missed an opportunity to put themselves in Tufty's mind.

Duffy, Brayford, Lafferty & Lavery could have all been much more influential but missed the opportunity ....... some of the crossing in particular was woeful

UTB & FTP

Pretty much agree with that Darth although Duffy was one of the better players. My biggest disappointment was Lundstram though it's still early days for him. Laffertys only saving grace for a poor performance was his goal.

It is ridiculous, should be 5, actually make that 3, or maybe 3 where one has to be a keeper, 2 was enough really, maybe just 1, actually make it 1 but only in case of injury, everyone managed for years without any they should man up and play on with a broken neck like the good old days.

Pleased to hear a direct quote from Brayford over his time with us. I was thinking when he left that he might say something but as he ended his twitter account we lost the most likely chance to hear his thoughts. I'd personally have liked Radio Sheffield to do an interview but the above article from the Burton Mail, which the Star have copied, is decent. I can't think of any other player in my time supporting United that was so popular at one point and then went to been public enemy number one - whilst still at the club - for many fans at least, largely because of circumstances beyond his control, such as the transfer fee, wages, the fact Clough became unpopular and Clough loved Brayford, and finally the injuries he has sustained.

I really hope he gets a great reception when he returns with Burton, he definitely deserves it and I think its a real shame it ended the way it did. I'm not faulting Wilder either here, I totally get managers come in and don't always fancy the players they adopt, whether that be at the beginning or as the new manager goes on in their spell.

Under settlement agreements, there is usually a clause that prevents either party bad-mouthing the other. That said, on the transfer deadline video of Wilder, they seemed to part company on good terms.
