Love his loan spell for us. When he came in permanently, it just didn't work out for him

To sort of merge two threads- my unpopular opinion (at the time) was that we should have never signed Brayford. Even Deadbat said I was being negative, but I had a nagging feeling he’d be a one-season wonder, we had enough options at fullback, and both a goalkeeper and a good striker were bigger needs (sound familiar?)

Good interview though, seems like a top bloke, and that season he was with us on loan was one of the few bright spots in a decade of turd

On the latter point, I actually think this was a rare instance where McCabe could see it was a bad investment – a year ago in the hearing I think this was flagged as a major point of contention between both parties, and Bettis himself said in the hearing that had he been at the club at that point he’d not have sanctioned it – the fee mentioned in court was £2 million incidentally, not the £1.3m mentioned in this piece. Madness.

I didn’t have a problem with it at the time, on the assumption we had more to invest. Obviously we didn’t.

It just reeked of the muddled thinking of co-ownership.
