Player Suggestion Jimmy Dunne

Disappointed that with a week to go in the window we are lining up possible targets to fill the biggest hole in the squad after squandering ten million on a position that was far from a priority

Further disappointment comes from the fact that dunne is closer to the level of jlt than souttar
Fanny!

I don’t disagree though. I’m getting over excited with the new owners, and the potential backing, but Dunne would be a flat end to the window having being spoilt with Diaz, Cannon and Choudhury.

To answer my own question, he is.
He is miles away from being a Souttar replacement. Hope we swerve this one.

Over the top? Sounds about right. He's too important, they've got a sniff of a play off place and we've demonstrated how willing we are to be ripped off with Cannon. I thought the QPR fans saying 1m would get him were being far too pessimistic. I've thought it would likely be £2m, maybe more

We need to get there first
Do you have a PL ready CB in mind ?

Nope.

You are right we need to get there first. Just in my mind a loan would probably make more sense than picking the likes of Dunne up on a 3/4 year contract when it’s very debatable if he’s got the ability to make the jump.

He seems to have played is best football at right back with very questionable reviews from QPR fans at centre back.

He doesn’t seem to be a dominant / Souttar replacement.

Picking up a bunch of championship players on decent contracts when you aspire to play at a level above them in 6 months time doesn’t seem the most efficient way to go about things to me

On the other hand, you can always try to get to the PL and THEN try to pick up proven players at PL salaries when you can prove to them that they will be playing in the PL.
Efficiency comes after promotion - unless you (or anyone) knows of a readily available Souttar replacemennt?

I don’t think there is a ready made Souttar replacement at this level. The guy was a beast.

Dunne will expect a decent uplift on his QPR salary, then probably a pay rise after promotion and a large bonus. We then face the possibility of having him contracted to us on a 3/4 year contact that prices him out of an easy move back to the championship in a years time. This is someone who doesn’t look any better than JLT.

Surely there is someone on the edge of a PL squad we can get on loan until the summer and then re-assess the situation.

At some point if we actually want to try and establish ourselves at the level above we need to plan for it and surely we do that by slowly upgrading and improving what’s here rather than buying more of the same on long contracts.

Bet he wishes he could swoop in and get Egan or that lad who was at Forest.

Unfortunately they’re both on Burnley’s books!

If ýou don't mind doing everything slowly that's fine.
I don't think that at the moment we have that luxury.

The whole point I was trying to make is that surely it’s faster to get a decent loan in and sign someone permanently in the summer when there’s more time and more options.

Is Dunne better than Anel? No. Is he better than Robinson? Debatable. Within a few %

He’s better at right back than at centre back and we’re getting Kenny and have got Gilchrist and Seriki for RB already.

Dunne's 'real' position is CB and you should compare him with Souttar - which
One Football have kindly done for us 🙂

"Defensively per 90

Dunne has the advantage over Souttar in a number of defensive areas. Dunne’s 1.21 successful tackles per 90 is almost double Souttar’ 0.61 successful tackles per 90.
Dunne completes slightly more clearances per 90 at 5.75 compared to Souttar’s clearances per 90 (5.5). Plus, Dunne’s headed clearances per 90 (3.21) is 0.1 higher than Souttar’s 3.11 per 90.
Dunne also completes more blocks per 90 at 0.18 compared to Souttar’s 0.05 blocks per 90. Where Souttar comes out on top is interceptions per 90 at 1.27 compared to Dunne’s 1.21 interceptions per 90.

Goal Scoring and attacking

Souttar didn’t score a goal whilst on loan with United. Whilst, Dunne has scored four goals for QPR. Three headed goals and one goal from his left foot.
Dunne has taken four times as many shots as Souttar. With Dunne taking 32 shots to Souttar’s 8 and Dunne getting 15 shots on target so far this season. Leading to Dunne’s shot accuracy to be 47% compared to Souttar’s 25% shot accuracy.
Where Souttar is better than Dunne is his passing. Souttar makes 53.1 accurate passes per 90 and 3.41 accurate long balls per 90. With Dunne making 34.4 accurate passes per 90 and 1.96 accurate long balls per 90."

Ask any QPR fan whether his real position is CB and they'll tell you it isn't. Most of them will tell you he's awful there.
He isn't a typical RB either. He's in the Alfie Gilchrist zone but with added set piece goal threat.

That article is comparing Dunne's RB stats to Souttar's CB stats which is skewing it a lot in JD's favour.

I'm a bit disappointed that we don't seem to have a decent plan for replacing Souttar as it's absolutely critical to our success that we do.
Here's hoping for an 11th hour rabbit out of hat job.

I still think he’ll just move gilchrist there. Although we need a brick shithouse because Robinson is just terrible

Dunne was only converted to full-back at QPR this season, so I'll give you the benefit of his attacking/ scoring stats but defending is defending wherever you are on the pitch

Wiki says he's 6ft read on Internet he's 6ft3 if he's 6'3 then get him ! Can't see us doing better!

CW said we will sign 5 players, and he'll want to use all 5 of his loan spots.

With Choudhury coming in, that's 4 out of 5 loan spots in the team, JJK by all accounts will be a permanent deal, Dunne will probably have to be a permanent deal as well.

That leaves us with 1 loan spot left, surely our CB signing will be that last loan spot?

Winger v full back is one of the most interesting battles on the pitch.

Wingers are usually the main position which really tries to isolate their defender and take them on.

Full backs quite often have higher tackle stats versus centre backs due to the fact they get dribbled against more frequently

I'd hope so, maybe he is eyeing another PL loan for CB.

If Dunne's tackle success rate was poor we might have a problem - but they seem quite good for someone who must face a lot of tricky wingers.
Does that mean he somehow can't defend against a centre forward?

Of course it doesn’t. It just means saying he’s a better tackler than Souttar based on statistics isn’t necessarily true and neither is that defensive stats mean the same regardless of position. It means he’s probably had more opportunities to make a tackle than big Souttar did.

If you flip it on its head and look at Man City. Who gets tackled more. Doku or Haaland.
Doku. Haaland regularly has the fewest touches in their team by far - which is quite common for strikers in the modern game. He’s not fussed if he gets one touch all game because he’ll score from it. Doku has 2/3x as many touches in a game regularly and tries to dribble his defender far more frequently. So in all likelihood the player who gets the most tackles is the one who’s gone 1v1 with Doku rather than one of the two centre halves trying to deal with Haaland.

You can’t compare someone playing right back versus a centre back statistically unless it’s in something like % of duals won.

dunne is far better than robinson imo were in trouble if hes our first choice lcb and wilder must think same as he couldnt get in the team when souttar was here we wont finish top 2 with robbo as a regular starter its sounds harsh i know but its a fact we need better

Totally agree with all of that except Dunne better than Robinson. Dunne played about 5 premier league games and been in an average QPR side. We desperately need a new cb but think this guys not the answer. Massively over rated but our fans due to a goal and couple of good games against us.

Got a feeling cw got something up his sleeve and we'll be pleasantly surprised.

Hope your right mate, if not, with Robinson in the side were well and truly fucked!
