Player Suggestion Jimmy Dunne

I am alright with Dunne as a long term squad signing. But not sure as a centre back he immediately displaces Anel or Robbo or replaces the aerial dominance Souttar had. His impressive form in the last couples of seasons has been right back. It one that would make sense if both the Kenny deal is flagging and we can't find that dominant centre back.

He occasionally moves to centre back when needed, so basically fills in at CB.&RB would be good cover for both. Gets goals with his head as well, something we fail to do! 6' 3" big sod, get it sorted blades👍

For those that are worried about QPR fans comments on Dunne playing at CB...Go and ask them what their thoughts on their ex player Jack Robinson playing at CB and which one they would prefer there!

Pretty sure it would be unanimously Dunne that they would choose!

Let's just concentrate on improving the starting 11 for the rest of this season and then worry about the Prem if/when we get there.

Dunne 100% improves us and there aren't a plethora of attainable options out there at the minute.

I remember him being good there for QPR. The fans are desperate for him to stay and that usually says a lot.

He's a cult hero. Pops up with important goals. His good performances have been at RB. They don't rate him at all at CB.

His statistics on defensive attributes score him as one of the best and most dominant especially in the air in the league which is positive for someone who would be playing centre half.

I for one hope we could get it over the line. I prefer him to Darling.

Sounds like it's either Dunne or Darling, given who's available for permanent transfers these 2 are probably our best options.

As much as we would have liked to, we were never going to be able to replace the aerial dominance of Souttar, I can't think of any potential permanent signings that could have filled that void.

Best thing about signing a new CB is that it doesn't really matter if we sign a RCB or LCB as Anel has played in both positions this season.

Souttar-Anel was our best partnership so CW clearly trusts Anel to play CB on his weaker foot.

JD seems to be a threat in both boxes at least, didn't he score QPR's first goal against us at the Lane last August?

Out of the two, it's got to be JD.

One shares the name of a 1920s/1930s scoring sensation for United (143 goals scored in 173 games played for us).

The other has a name that you call someone (wife/girlfriend etc) when you are trying to get your end away.

So one is associated with glory, the other could be associated with us getting royally f###ed.

Its got to be Jimmy boy all the way. He also shares his initials with a famous Tennessee Whiskey so extra brownie points for that too.

Yes he scored with a header from a corner.

You should be on Wilders recruitment team, excellent logic and stato data driven knowledge. Sorry Des, it was a blast.

yes dunne would absolutely improve us know lots on here not sure but just like harry darling hes better than robinson i think he would be fine at centre back for us plus hes dangerous from corners which we never score from i would be happy with either dunne or darling

To be fair. Brentford fans said the same over John Egan and Jack O"Connell when we were after them.
Most fans who lose a player downplay his importance, except us lot of course who generally think we've given the crown jewels away

If we are looking at QPR for a centre back then Rob Dickie is the one I'd want, tall, aerially dominant and scores an occasional long range goal

Dickie has only played 14 times for Bristol City this season. He has the turning circle of a cruise ship and the pace to match-he is definitely on the wane.

My mistake I thought he was still at QPR so ignore everything i said !

However I would point out that Soittar hardly had the turning circle of a jet ski or the pace of Usain Bolt but he wasn't in the team for that. He was there to dominate the box and the centre of the pitch at the back and tjats what we need to replace

One big positive about getting Dunne, is the threat from set pieces.
He's one of those who proper attacks the ball.
He'll give a few fouls away for being too aggressive, but that desire will also lead to goals/chances.

Even given how big Souttar was, he didn't seem to impose himself half as much as he should have.

Unquestionably great value.

He's been here 5 years and is on 125 appearances, competing in the PL or top of Championship.

I think he gets too much of a rough time from fans. He has his limitations, but he's excellent at what he's supposed to be (a guy that steps in when needed, minimal fuss, does a decent job).
On the other hand, imagine if we had played someone half decent instead in all those games.

Cruise ships are good at turning in confined spaces !!

We'll soon knock that out of him.

Sorry Jane McDonald 😜
Went to her first wedding - lovely lass

Agree…remember almost all their fans being very happy with the sales. They were all unanimous that Egan was their 4th choice centre back and O’Connell was 5th choice but had more versatility because he was decent as left back.

I suppose even now….they’d defend their viewpoint
Explaining we played them both in a back 5 where as they played them in a back 4 where they were both average/ ordinary.
Obviously it’s easier because there’s 3 centre backs sharing the defending task.

What they didn’t realise that as O’Connell was decent as an attacking left back.
He was asked to play both positions inside the same game…building up a fantastic understanding with Steven’s down the left wing as overlapping centre back.

Often though feedback from fans should be taken with a pinch if salt because players are only as good as how they are used and their team mates.

Happy with either of Dunne or Darling. Neither of them are Harry Souttar, but we were never going to be able to replace him. We'll even struggle in the summer if we get promoted to find someone as good
