Player Suggestion Jimmy Dunne

Just seems to make sense this one as he's also OOC in the summer. Good player, but maybe we fancy JJK instead?

In really not sure about Jimmy Dunne.

He's a threat from set pieces and versatile enough to play RB or CB, but I think he falls between the two things we actually need.

We need an experienced RB that knows his position and is capable of offering some attacking width & threat.

We need an experienced CB, physically and aerially dominant and competent on the floor.

I don't think Jimmy Dunne is either of those things. His best form has come for QPR at RB but he's not a traditional 'up & down the line' guy that offers qualities in the final third (ignoring the set piece stuff).

He'd be a great squad pick-up if we were considering sending Gilchrist back, but I think that deadline has passed.

He might not offer the conventional sort of threat from full back but he'd probably make up for it at set pieces and help address a truly pitiful area for us

If we're playing Souza & Choudhury in central midfield together, as seems to be the plan.. we need some attacking outlets from wide.

Jimmy Dunne isn't the man for that. If we brought him in on the whim that he'd get a few goals from set plays then I'd be worried.

Peck hit the first man with most of his corners last night and I can't remember many, if any, goals we've scored from corners / free kicks.

But in that case, I do agree about the full backs

I'd still be signing Dunne for CB, with the set pieces a strong factor but not the main reason. He'd be a very good value signing at this level and would form a better partnership with Anel than Robinson. He'd at the very least be an excellent 3rd choice CB at this level next season - an upgrade on what Robinson currently should be - but also a contingency plan for Anel's possible departure. We definitely need one in his mould on a permanent basis

Didn’t get forward that much, so not sure he adds much more than what we have.

I'd prefer JJK myself and that seems more likely based on rumours unless we're after both in which case Dunne will be CB if guess. I'd rather Woolfenden myself who is 6.4ft tall.

Dunne is 'only' on a reported £8.5k a week at QPR. You would imagine we would be offering to at least double, possibly treble that. Seen a few QPR fans saying they expect him to sign a new contract next week though...

I was a big fan of Dunne based on his performance in our 2-2 draw with QPR.

On reflection he’s more CB and tbh fits the exact mould of a battling player that grinds out a performance that I would expect from a Wilder signing.

But, compare him to Soutter who was a presence, a good out ball distributor and an excellent CB I’m now thinking he might look the part but he’s a totally different player, maybe a cheap option (again what I’d expect) but not a replacement for the big fella.

Disappointed that with a week to go in the window we are lining up possible targets to fill the biggest hole in the squad after squandering ten million on a position that was far from a priority

Further disappointment comes from the fact that dunne is closer to the level of jlt than souttar
