Player Suggestion Jimmy Dunne

The system has lost all the qualities it was first built upon.

Keeper with sky high confidence in Hendo.
Classy, combative and hugely consistent wing backs in Baldock and Stevens.
An organised back three, wholly on one another's wavelength in Bash, Egan and JOC.
Good possession in Norwood and Berge, with outlets in the attacking wing backs.
Energy in midfield in Fleck and dare I say it, Lunny.
Strikers able to take one of a small number of chances we may get, in Didz, Sharp and Moose. Although, Archer, BBD and McBurnie haven't been too bad in that sense.
So what does/can he do?
Try and build that again, almost from scratch. Or try something new?
The backbone is going to be Gribic, Robbo, Blaster/Brooks, Osula/McBurnie. Is that even a strong enough platform to try the 3 at the back style rebuild?

i think we have to ditch the 3 centre backs now were going in to the championship play with a back 4 and go 433 or 4312 think hamer could do well in a free role behind the 2 strikers and if we do could be egan/worrall and robbo/ trusty for the 2 centre back spots

Very difficult to experiment/train players to get used to 4 at the back in the Premier League, a bit more manageable in the Championship I would imagine. The only modern formation with three at the back imo would be 343 like Wolves play or Luton (I think) with wingers around a central striker and two mobile/creative/defensive midfielders (I suppose that could be Hamer, Davies or Arblaster). We'd still need wingers (Brooks plays left wing for the U21s I think and maybe RW could be a loan signing) and possibly LWB depending on RND's injury.

I'd still much prefer us to play 4 at the back as it's much more flexible and gives the option to fall back to 352 if necessary (like Brentford do). Either way, we'll need new CBs, but with 4 at the back you can concentrate on the 'traditional' type, not the specialist who can bomb forward like JOC and Bash. I'd had a look at the Championship CBs whose contracts are nearing their end (this year or next) and also come across Jimmy Dunne as well as Jake Cooper, Paddy McNair and Nathan Wood of Swansea (the latter at 21 yo could be a decent 'one for the future').

I put together some stats (a few weeks ago now mind) to see how they compared to the (at the time) best rated Championship defenders in the league so far (Greaves, Ampadu and Vestergaard) and how they compared to the defenders we currently have on the books last season in the Championship:

You can see the current best rated defenders all have over 90% pass completion (possibly why they are rated the highest) with lower tackling (tho the stats for Greaves look impressive!) while for our defenders last season that was a big weakness. Last season our major strength in defence was the basics like tackling, heading and intercepting. Looks like Jimmy Dunne and Jake Cooper could be good Egan-like additions, while McNair and Wood a bit more calm and composed on the ball.
