As for this disdain over him tweeting support for the Blades, deary deary me I must unsubscribe from the Pittsburgh Steelers official site immediately. I am obviously not allowed to support a team whom I admire and whose supporters are a credit to their team because I am English.
It's bizarrely narrow-minded to think that unless you're from a place or have a long-standing family link into it that you can't be considered a proper fan. In fact, it's just nonsense. I started going because my uncle took me to the Lane, but he was the first in our family to ever support them – travelling up and down the country to watch us even when we fell to the 4th division. I took a friend to a few games when he was in his 20s and he ended up becoming a fan and had a season ticket next to me for a few years – I've got about United memories from 14 years before he watched his first United game, but his passion for the club is no different to mine.
I've been a Red Sox fan for over 12 years now, been to several games and watch them regularly. I'm not American, I've no links to Boston, and got into both the sport and team by chance.
