Some good points.

Traore was signed for the Premier League and many playeds struggle to make that step up. We never gave him a fair chance in the Championship and this current formation would have suited him. There's the counter argument that without selling him we probably wouldn't have brought in Cooper or Burrows, so it was inevitable that we sold him.

It's a great argument though - some players you need to let go even though there is a huge potential. Financing the acquisition of new players that can come in and add quality should of course not be neglected. Money should be on the pitch, so if there was ever an either or in terms of Cooper and Traoré, I am supporting that decision 100%. But my post was more about the general strategy of recruitment, having a plan for every player etc.

Might as well give the lad a bench spot or even a start while we await the playoffs.

He can have Cannons spot in the matchday squad.

I’m going to defend Cannon based on my thought pattern on Slim Man non bias “is Cannon sh!t” ;) thread but I can see your point. Try the owners wild cards out to see if there’s owt in these lads (don’t think Nigerian lads pulled a shirt on yet so probs to soon).

However, don’t think while there’s a chance of us going up via unlikely auto or play off route we’ll take the risk.

Anyone have any idea on how these two have progressed?

If they were considered a viable option for next year, you might think they were given a bench spot in one of the next two games.
Nowhere close yet. The Nigerian lad doesn't even have his permit sorted...

Watched Jeff in the U21s a few times now and being honest, looks well off the standard. Obviously plenty of time for him yet but he's nowhere close to the first team level.

I have seen social media of him in the training kit at the training ground so can you do that without a permit?!

so it's not a work permit but a playing one? Surely if he's being paid to train he's working?
Who knows, I'm not the club secretary unfortunately 🤣 Was told he didn't have the necessary paperwork to begin playing matches yet - I'd hazard it being some sort of International clearance rather than a work permit if I had to guess.

Re this point

The CBF have been told that United are paying Sheffield FC to relay the Coach & Horses pitch in the close season. With a view to making it one of The Blades Under 21 home grounds for/from 2025/26. Presumably “replacing” York City in the rotation.

I’d imagine the long term plan is to put a small stadium on Shirecliffe?

They play all U18 League games, and many U21 games (there's one on Friday), at Shirecliffe already - without a "small stadium". Why do you think that would be in the plan?

It's the in thing now. Chelsea have Kingsmeadow, Brentford have Staines Towns old ground, man city have their own mini stadium.

We probably would have had the one McCabe owns where Don Valley used to be or at least used it I suspect.

With the kind of crowds the women's side gets it's probably more suitable.

It was earmarked for the women’s side & Sheffield Eagles.

Yes. But the Chelsea & Brentford ones you quote are NOT mini stadiums built on the Academy or Training Ground.

Incidentally, they lead me to my preferred plan - United purchase and develop Millmoor.

The "McCabe Stadium" is 4g and can't be used for Academy games.

Given that CF Booth were publicly named & shamed last month after taking a multi million pound spanking from HMRC in a VAT fraud case there will never be a better time to make a cheeky offer.

One of the rumours doing the rounds is that the Sheffield & Hallamshire FA will take over the McCabe Stadium / Olympic Legacy Park / now renamed as Steel City Stadium to run as a County FA Hub.

I'm sceptical, because it's being used for Rugby League.

It’s just seems logical does it not?with the first team moving at some point it would leave Shirecliffe as the home of the acadamy why would the club continue to use other small venues when they could just play at Shirecliffe?

Dronfield not a bad run down from Dore.

This following on from a £1.2m fine last year after a worker was hit by a skip lorry and received a fractured skull. It's not been a great 12 months for the Booths.

Not at all but if we have the land already why pay someone else to use theirs?
Sorry. Aren't we at cross purposes still. THIS season we have played U21 games at Shirecliffe. Without "the stand" you mention. THIS season, bar the ones we have to play at Bramall Lane, and bar the ones we have to play under lights, we COULD have played the rest of the U21 games at Shirecliffe, without "the stand" you mention. Yet THIS season we have CHOSEN to pay to play a fair few games at York City.

I'm making the point that playing U21 games at Shirecliffe does not require "the stand" to be built. Because we already play there without one.

I happen to know that the players love playing at York City, and they feel they are playing on/in a quality, proper ground. Part of their development is playing away from "the day in day out training ground"

I read recently on the Nextdoor website that Sheffield Eagles are involved in the proposed Sheffield FC stadium at Meadowhead. I don’t know if that’s true or not. It was mentioned in connection with possible traffic congestion in the area.

Is he using Coulibaly’s old bib? 🤣

If that gets built I'll stand shooting

If Sheffield FC are moving to their new stadium at some stage it might make sense to take over their current ground and use it for U-21s, U-18s and the Women?

I applaud United using data and stats as a factor when looking at players, but it has to be combined with extensive scouting by real football people. Traore has some great attributes and may have been a real asset in this season's team.

Regarding Caceres I think it's a concern that he seems to lack pace and mobility. We can't have too many short and slow players.

Coulibaly had some promise, especially after his loan at Beerschot, but we should have played him to find out if he could cut it with us or not. I wanted to see more of him after that Spurs cup game, but instead we just kept him at the club with no real plan for him. We may have hoped his weaknesses would somehow just disappear as he aged, but in the end he looked really nervous and unconfident when we threw him on.

Caceres should hope we have more of a plan for him. It should include how we can make him a first teamer, but also something different if we lose faith in him.
