Jebbison

Maupay would walk into the starting 11 at the moment and would contribute a lot more than Jebbo this season which looks like it'll be his last with us. Would be a good deal for us if we could swap them somehow without much/any outlay

Maupay has been dreadful for several years now. Looks to have lost his pace which was his big asset.

The Maupay of three years ago , big yes. Now , not so sure, if part of a Jebbo deal ,maybe. Wages be a massive problem, so , all in all, its a no from me.

If Brewster is back playing before the close of the transfer window, or we bring in another striker, then I'd send Jebbo out on loan to a Championship team for three months. If he does well then we enter contract talks with him, as he will have shown that he can spearhead our attack next season back in that division. If he does nothing significant of note on loan then let the lad leave as he's no use to us for the immediate future.

Harsh? That's football. He'll do nothing in this team in this division at present and I don't get the hype from the fans. Other than scoring on his debut three seasons ago he's literally added nothing to his Sheffield United highlights reel since then, and yet some people make out that he's going to be the next big thing. Based on what?

We need to think about next season and whether Osula and Jebbo can score the goals we need for a promotion push next season. I'd also be tempted to do the same with Osula. Neither are ready for the Premier League and need to taste life at Championship level first.

it’s alright saying Maupay is shite and he was terrible last year (stats below) but had no consistency in that everton side with no one creative in it. Bit like us really.

But let’s be honest. Who else are we going to attract to sign for us because we pay peanuts for wages by premier league standards and have a team who would struggle to get into the championship play offs at its current state?

In the 3 seasons prior to last season he scored 10,8,8 which to me, looks impressive. Looking at our current strikers I’d be surprised if they score 10 between them.

We have to be realistic and he would be an option on Heckys list I’m pretty sure.

I'd tell Everton £12-15m +sell on fee and he's yours, we've too many players taking years to progress, Jebbo is one of those who so far have only shown promiss
Indeed, Trevor Francis was 16 when he made his Birmingham debut. Brian Clough also said 'if your good enough your old enough'!

What's their fixation on us?

Hoping to weaken at least one team to finish below them?

They've already seen Ndiaye leave who they have a somewhat farcical interest in, given he'd already refused them when we were a division below.

Now they are after another striker. What next? Bid for McBurnie? Cheeky offer for Brewster?

Weirdos.

Elephant in the room is the contract, if he won't sign then his age and potential mean nothing, can he offer us more of a positive contribution next year over alternatives we could bring in with the money? If not he has to go

We haven’t had a player sign up to new contract to any players for about 12 months up until Ndiaye. What makes you think it’s Jebbison refusing to sign? Have we even offered anything worthwhile. Prince says he likes players with their contracts running out as they play harder (!!!).

The obvious flaw to that is what if a player decides that he needs a change when in his final year of his contract.

You're then left with a player trying not to get injured coupled with a heavily reduced market valuation...

Or other clubs clock your strategy and get into the ear of the player via an Agent, and you lose them for nothing next summer or below market value now. An absolutely ridiculous policy. Ndiaye was the first, Jebbison the next.

I’d agree but think if we sent him on loan and a) he came good he’d refuse to sign looking for a big money move or b) he’d flop and we’d get nowt for him.
Time appears to be conspiring against us and it’s grab as much as we can now to help fund a patched up squad of crocks and aging players.
Champagneblade does a good assesment of what he’s given us after being given a few chances by Hecky and he’s not really taken that opportunity, maybe he’s seen what’s going on around him re not signing a contract and wants out or sees a money making career bench warming for a few years

Not that I'm saying we shouldn't have signed Traore as I think he will become a very good signing for us in the future.... But can't help thinking that may have weighed on Jebbos decision making.

I'm firmly in the Maupay is shit camp. Great in a team that can create lots of chances and will constantly put them on a plate for him to tap in but not what we need in our squad. Need someone who's going to offer more in terms of hold up play, creating and making chances for himself and others. I don't even think Maupay is that great of a finisher anyway. Exactly the type of player I would stay well clear of. Unsellable and adds very little.

I'd keep Jebbo over him. I would be happy to sell Jebbo to help purchase better players though.

Both jebbo & osula won't cut it in the top 2 leagues, potential is one thing actually being good enough is another!

Didnt we all say the same about DCL who turned in to a 40m England international?

Pointless to talk in absolutes given we’ve no idea what the future holds. It’s a gamble based on potential to hold on to them

And one id take - think we need to hold on to potential gems otherwise what’s the point in an academy

(1) We're one of the few clubs to ever come up and get pick pocketed of their best players, so we're open to business.
(2) Weaken us, improve your own chances of survival.
(3) It went well with DCL and Jebbison has better pedigree.
(4) It doesn't feel like Jebbison is in any rush to sign, so we might have to sell.

Is he really injured or being frozen out of the team as he is refusing to sign a new contract?
interesting that Hecky does not seem to have been questioned about him.?

Not a bad assumption tbh but I reckon media would know by now. He's not trained or played for a month.

Apparently he has a groin injury and like with all our injuries it's probably worse than what they first thought.

Hecky was asked about the alleged freezing out of Berge, for refusing to sign a new deal, and he said categorically that he would not allow anyone to be treated like that. Then again he did add in a qualifying statement along the lines of "if other discussions have taken place that I am not party too, then I can't really say.." or words to that effect. Personally I do think this freezing out business is nonsense though.
