I was watching the Fleetwood Blackpool game yesterday on tv and the stand out player for Fleety was Jamie Vardy. Hard working, good in the air and a good shot on him, which gave him a deserved goal. He was up against 2 top defenders and didn't look out of place. Certainly couldn't see it being a problem for him to step up to the level we are at now and wouldn't cost a fortune either.

Jim Chimmerney do you have a view on this as a Fleetwood local? Was this just a one off or is he someone that we should be looking at?

I think a few clubs are looking at him, and a price of 800k has been mentioned. He's born in Sheffield, is he a Blade or pig?

Did you see the game yesterday or was it just us lucky Danish residents that had the pleasure? 800k is steep, 500k would be more realistic though yesterday's performance has certainly upped the ante

met his sister couple of weeks back hes definatly a pig! Also heard same theres a few clubs after him with a couple of championship side thinking of giving him a chance!

No, I don't have Viasat who have the FA cup rights. Jan Åge Fjørtoft was hosting for Viasat yesterday and had Brian Deane as a guest.

It would be nice if we could find players like Vardy at an earlier point, i.e. if we'd realised his potential at Stocksbridge or Halifax and signed him then. But if we did, would he have got on the pitch in front of more established players?

Oh well I would have been surprised if I was the first person to notice him :-). I think that if he was being sensible he would be better off going to League 1 first, where he would have a greater chance of games. Non league to Championship is a big step.

ITV had Paul Ince and Gordon Strachan as pundits who were pretty good, to be fair. So if there are decent pundits out there why the hell does Alan Shearer manage to hang on to his job at the BBC?

Being watched by other clubs is a bit of an understatement

I think at the last round of the cup, it was reported on Sky Sports (Gillette Soccer Saturday) that there was scouts/representatives from 30 clubs at the game to watch him

He is a pig

He was at the sty last week to take in a game

I know one of his relatives who I spoke to just before Xmas. Nothing was forthcoming at that time, suffice to say his agent had had numerous calls of interest tho. I asked the relative to let me know if anything progressed, but haven't heard a bean since as I believe (can't confirm)that we have also sent scouts to keep an eye on him.

Just re-iterate what others have said, definitely a pig and there's loads of interest in him. I've seen him a few times and it's difficult to say how good he may be. He's a cut above Conference level certainly but I've also seen him in a couple of games where big strong centre backs had him in their pocket. He's a good finisher, has pace and if he's given space, he generally does the business. Whether he'd get that space higher up the league ladder is debatable, as we've seen with what dropping down a level has done for Chedwyn this season.

The latest transfer rumour is WHam and apparently they've offered around £1M.

Hopefully I've put the right link to it, but this was put up on twitter by JAF yesterday.

I used to teach him. One of the main reasons he ended up at Stocksbridge rather than being kept on by the pigs was that he had a poor attitude by all accounts, thought he'd made it. To his credit he's worked hard there and then subsequently at Halifax and Fleetwood and seems to be earning rave reviews. Heard the other day Fleetwood have actually turned down an offer of approx £1m from West Ham.

Much in the same ilk as Vardy,a bloke I've kept an eye on since his rise through the ranks is Crawley's Matt Tubbs. Would he be worth a punt?

Saw him play for Stocksbridge against Stalybridge in the FA cup two-three years ago, think he scored both their goals in a 7-2 defeat and looked the best player on the park. Thought at the time someone like Rotherham or Chessie might have taken a punt on him.

I saw him play a lot for Stocksbridge, absolutely cracking player. But he comes with a few "issues". Its not so long ago that he was electronically tagged......
