Jamie Murphy

Murphy played correctly would be an asset to any team.
But in our current system I find it hard to stick him in.
Maybe a total game changer from cw if true.
We'll see.

I don't see why he couldn't play up top alongside Clarke, Sharp and Donaldson. Would also be a great option off the bench when trying to hold onto games. I have memories of him finishing off a few games for us when holding a 1-0 lead. His pace and running ability would stretch defences and is certainly a type of forward we are missing and need.

Two questions, firstly does he still have that pace as he's not getting any younger and secondly given our seemingly very limited budget and his likely wages would he be a good use of our funds ?

I think Wilder will get a young premiership loanee as the pace player and spend our money on someone with more room to develop and potential resale value

Murphy instead of Cole. He has the pace and eye for goal. Not sure his return would be the best thing for the club, fans or dressing room though.

He's 28 not 38! Donaldson showed yesterday that even at 33 he still has his pace.

Be interesting to hear you expand on this. I’ve heard that he’s a decent lad just a bit quiet.

Loan seems the likelihood. No chance of him giving up £30k plus per week and even less chance of United paying him £30k plus per week.

Murphy's the outstanding attacking option for us in the January window IMO.

Can carry the ball, beat a man, has decent pace and can cross & finish. Can play wide left and as a second striker. Known quantity which is unusual for a loan player and without (so I’m told) an ego.Ticks a lot of boxes for me.

Agreed. I worry about match sharpness a bit though, he doesn't seem to have played much for quite a while.

I'll always remember Jamie Murphy favourably from when he was the sole shining light in that dreadful team under Weir.

Nothing to expand on Rodders, I'm just musing about the reaction. Have worked at companies where people have gone to competitors and returned when it didn't work out. People were wary of them on their return.

Anyone not wanting him is mad, he is exactly what we need. We won't get much better than Murphy in our financial position.

I think the greatest asset he would add is flexibility up front. We have struggled to effectively improve when the shape has been changed, and I think Murphy would definitely help strengthen options up front while giving us genuine width if we need to switch to a 4 in midfield.

Gonna throw this out there... does anyone reckon he could be converted to a left wing back? I like Jamie Murphy a lot, but his best position by far was wide left and we don’t play to his strengths.

Sorry, I should’ve been more specific. I was questioning playing Murphy in behind the striker(s) like where we play Duffy. When Murphy played centrally for us it was up top as the furthest man forward, where he could use his pace.

Would you drop one of our highest OPTA rated players in favour of Jamie Murphy? Duffy is absolute class and with 8 assists, he is pivotal!

For me, Duffy is one of the first names on the team sheet!

Nobody really to see it as a return as only Bash was here when he was.

My bad! Should read more carefully before jumping in two footed. Apologies LJ.

No worries, I was about to do the same thing before I read your second comment.

I fully agree, no way would I be thinking of dropping Duffy. He’s pivotal to how we play.

I'd take him simply because he's a very good footballer.

I don't know where we'd play him.

Not sure there’s any realistic possibility of this as Brighton have recently told Rangers he isn’t for sale!

It would take some work on his defensive attributes but he has the pace and stamina from what I recall. If anyone could coach him into that role then Wilder and Knill could that's for sure.

Would probably play upfront for us in this system, like how Brooks played just off Clarke.
