CONFIRMED James Wilson Signs

It was just the phrase to use to describe what goes on when we sign a player. Purely as a result of the desperation for a good signing, many try and convince themselves that whoever it is that we sign is a great signing, whether they actually look to be or not. I'm glad we've managed to find something to agree on at least.

Yeah I get it. Like I say, there's nothing about this signing that jumps out at me as particularly positive but like with every player, despite my initial thoughts, I'll approach it with a "wait and see" attitude because whilst it doesn't excite me, I'm far from certain he'll be a poor signing.

Also, what makes me a little more confident is that Wilder says he's been training with us for a week so he's had a good look at him up close and still thinks it's a worthwhile signing. Feels like less of a stab in the dark on that basis.

Just because I'm underwhelmed doesn't mean I hate the signing. I just don't think he should be first choice and we know he will be come Bolton first game.

Say we DONT manage to sign a 'leader' at centre half then what? We've got a lame duck sat on our hands.

A change of scenery could be what he needs, I do remember when they first signed him he was shit hot but seems to have lost his way. Nice that he's quick and athletic though, could cover for McFadz lack of pace and make a potential good partnership. But I'd still want a more qualified first teamer alongside McFadz at least to start with.

Of no relevance whatsoever, but does anyone remember how underwhelmed Leicester fans were when Ranieri was appointed?

For examples closer to home we can probably look at McCall, Chief, Shipps, Geary, LJF etc.

All bargain bucket signings but all turned out somewhere between decent and very good.

We just have to hope this lad follows in their footsteps. Doesn’t mask the fact that we’re fishing in a very shitty pond by the looks of things.

Im willing to back wilders view on him rather than the forum experts such as i could score more goals than DCL in league 2 Barney.

Barney’s just waiting for his move to Everton to be finalised. Koeman won’t be interested in DCL if once he realises Barney is better and available.

Hopefully one thing this signing will do is strengthen our position when negotiating for our main centre half targets, as we're no longer as desperate.

Agreed. I’d been thinking maybe we should have retained McGahey or Edgar for that reason.

I wouldn't have minded either tbh, but I bet Edgar's wages were more than he's worth.
McGahey was released and I don't know why. He's decent enough cover, young and does have potential if guided the right way. Didn't let us down at all last year when called upon and infact looked more solid than his partners. I think Rochdale will make a player of him.

Morgan Morgan calm down and give the lad a chance. We've made some over whelmimg signings in the past with good reputations and they've been poor. Maybe it's the underwhelming team players that might end being the best. We have no choice but to give the new manager a chance and support his judgement.

Also regards the Liverpool type investment did you really think we would be signing players like Saurez and Sturridge. It was a figure of speech meaning we will still work within a business model relation to league 1 and not to a Man Ciry where we spend a few million on players when we feel like it.

Yes, yes I was aware then, and I'm still aware now of what "Liverpool style" investment meant, I wasn't expecting us to splash millions upon millions, but I expected an awful lot more than we got (past tense because it seems to be in the process of winding up).

Anyway, back to the player, on the terraces I'll always give everyone a chance. I actually enjoyed James Wilson's first interview, very honest about his career to date and spoke very well. But surely venting frustrations, having a bit of a moan and even playing devils advocate (a la Barney) is what these forums are for and what makes them interesting? On a side note I would be pretty pleased if we managed to sign Kilgallon, McFadzean, Fleck and Leon Clarke but I doubt our wage bill will stretch that far.
