it appears as though James Wilson is predominately right footed - anyone know what Mcfadz is?

CW likes balance in a team - is that why Killgallon was apparently down at the Lane last week

Bergen Blade mentioned the other day - all known targets are right-footed...

Sounds like a 2016 version of Morgs and Kilgallon if we can get McFadzean alongside him?

Yeah but I would guess not as good as those two, obviously. But Wilson appears to be a footballer as opposed to just defender. I think the signing of McFadzaen appears even more crucial now though as we definitely need a quality centre half to enable Wilson to be the secondary centre half if that makes sense. Of course I might be wrong and it could be that Wilson is going to be the out and out leader etc.

Whilst I'm not advocating anyone slagging him off before we have seen him, there seems to be too much of this 'how dare you be underwhelmed by this signing' attitude that is equally unhelpful.

He might be class, could turn out to be the best centre half we've seen at the lane for years. HOWEVER, the guy is 27 and never played consistently at a higher level and gets 'mixed' reviews from his former employers. We were also competing with Rochdale for his signature.....

I'm all for 'wait and see' however it still doesn't strike me as the calibre of player we should be expecting to sign as a promotion-chasing (lol) side. As a back up, this would seem a perfectly sensible signing - knows the league, prime age and zero cost. But we all know he'll be starting for is in August.

I do thInk it's about balance and perhaps being slightly more aspirational rather than blindly optimistic. A fine signing, but we need a lot more quality to get us up in my opinion.

Wow a bloke with 2 left feet. Should help us bring balance to the team then.

Just a shame this place disappears further down the shitter with every Bladesmad poster who joins. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

It's Bladesmad's fault again!

Awful signing. We really are skint. What was that investment "think Liverpool" chat all about? As usual, it's our board making absolute mugs of themselves and taking the fans for idiots.

Lets put a little perspective on this. Last season I watched team after team roll up at the lane who's defence invariably came out on top of the scintillating Blades strike force. Time and time again I turned to my mate ( yes I've got one. ! ) and uttered the phrase " why can't we pick up a couple of central defenders like these , there not world beaters but they are capable , who are they " to which I often got the reply " don't know em either or for that matter anybody else in their team , but they are all comfortable on the ball , all think and act quicker than us and can't see one of ours capable of getting in their team ".

Lets give this lad a chance and hope we get some more we've never heard of , it seems to work for everybody else ! UTB

Think of all the clamor to sign Dean Hammond. He turned out to one of the Clubs biggest mistakes in recent memory.

Signing 'Names' doesn't necessarily work (Hammond), nor does playing at a higher signify better ability (Woolford).

He might be garbage, he might be class, he might a solid signing who knows this league and provides adequate backup.

And of all them centre halves who turned up and bossed us we sign one of the few that looked terrible.

Ah, shit!

Was going to jump straight in to deride any hypothetical negative reactions one or two individuals on a discussion forum might have but it looks like I've been beaten to it.

In my eyes if you're not jumping for joy with the news of this signing then not only are you not a Blade, but you're scum.

exactly. this all sounds very similar to that (2014?) transfer window when we signed lots of perceived "average" players like JCR, Wallace, Alcock, McEveley etc. and anyone who criticised the signings or said they were underwhelmed was just dismissed and told to "shut up and give them a chance"... only for those people to be proven right as these players put bang average performance after bang average performance.

i want every player that pulls on the shirt to succeed and i'm not advocating slagging him off before he's even played a game but saying you're "underwhelmed" by a signing =/= slagging him off and when you look at the plethora of other centre halves available it's only natural that people are going to be disappointed. he's 27, has spent most of his career in the lower leagues without ever being a standout and has hardly earned rave reviews from his last club who narrowly avoided relegation last year. tbf there's a very good chance we've only brought him in as backup to McFadz + a.n.other but he's not exactly the type of signing that inspires much confidence.

Given Linz has asked us not to sling shit, I'll just make it clear that I was being sarcastic.
Perhaps you were too?

What????

He's 6 foot 3! How fucking big is this ugly fella next to him going to be?

Not just about the height of the players. Let’s not forget Killa is taller than Morgs but out of the two, Morgs would certainly have been classed as the “big, no nonsense type” with Killa the “quick, pretty boy scared of messing his hair up who could play out from the back”.

Yes there were a few games like that, don't remember us rolling over Oldham 3-0 being one of those games though!

Oh dear.

I see the turd polishers are out in force.

I can tell it's been a struggle trying to polish this one though.

Whilst I share your underwhelmed sentiment, I think it’s a bit early to be labeling him a turd!

We’ll see if Wilder has spotted something in him nobody else has. Not an exciting or inspiring signing on paper. Just have to hope that Wilder can perform the trick of the team being greater than the sum of it’s parts.

No doubt you would prefer Smalling or Cahill . No thanks . Let's embrace this fella , give him a chance .he ain't even pulled the shirt on or kicked a ball in anger and the negative slagging off player and club is there.

Let Wilder get on with the job in hand building a team.

I was just bring funny (I thought) with the Simpsons gif, didn't mean to come across as an arse.

It was just the phrase to use to describe what goes on when we sign a player. Purely as a result of the desperation for a good signing, many try and convince themselves that whoever it is that we sign is a great signing, whether they actually look to be or not. I'm glad we've managed to find something to agree on at least.
