It was a fantastic save that unfortunately fell to their player. If anything he got too good a touch on it so he hooked it back rather than tipping it over but with the strength of the shot that could if easily gone in.

His kicking second half ... he booted it that high and it took the ball that long to come down that the Brentford centre halves looked genuinely nervous about getting their head on it.

Never seen a keeper kick it so high before
Bert assumed that he was kicking it high in the second half because the sun was in the defenders eyes.

I think Bert may be partly correct. You have the correct apparatus to give it that kind of welly . Jamal has that apparatus

Have to admit I had worries about him based on comments I had read and heard about him from Wycombe fans but that was as good a debut for a goalie since Alan Kelly

That's some praise. Did well for me, yes his kicking needs a little polish, but ultimately, shot stopping, control of the box, confidence, all to be admired.

Don't worry Mr Moore, your positions in safe hands....

He was impressive calm as anything, I thought Stevens was good with his forays down the left wing. Also the little black fella for them on the left was quite good.

Brilliant display of stopping abilities, needs work on distribution, clean sheet, impressed.

He was excellent, kept us in the game with a great save when he palmed it over in the first half as well. Much relieved about the GK situation now.

Must admit had my doubts when he first came in would rather had a bit more experience between the sticks, but he was amense today had a few shaky moments with his kicking but made some top draw saves to keep us in the game, Excellent debut under a lot of pressure and expectancy! UTB⚽

I have.

Simonsen.

.... and as Fred has pointed out, that of Mel Rees and there can surely be no higher praise.

After seeing the excellent video posted a few days ago of his highlights last season, I commented on his lightning fast reactions and they were fully in evidence today. A few more performances like that and I think we might have another cult hero on our hands and young Mr. Moore might find it difficult to regain his place, which would not disappoint me in the slightest.

He was awesome. A great shot stopper and won us the game with his outstanding saves.

3 awesome saves today. Thought he had a great debut, not sure Moore would have made them

Somewhat surreal kicking though. Either shanked it or put it into orbit
A bloke his size ought to be able to throw the ball accurately over a long distance. When Schmeichel played for Man U he could pick out his forwards on both wings and set up very effective counter attacks. Let's hope after a few sessions on the training ground Blackman can do the same here.

He should be a good nuisance at corners to,if we need to send him up in the last few minutes to rescue a point,he should work on his heading as well as throwing

You're probably correct but with the size of him I reckon it'd take him a good 2 minutes to run back to his own goal.

The guy is Fatty Foulke re-incarnated, a man giant ha ha

I reckon he would move with the speed and grace of a young Michael Holding, dashing back to his unguarded net, might take a while for him to get going through the gears though, like you say

I wouldn't bet against Blackman scoring a goal from his own area before the end of the season.

I did think we panicked a bit during the second half and became a bit long-bally ..... nevertheless, I think that was a decent start from a team playing at a higher level than they previously have.

Six yard box to six yard box was probably about the length of Holding's run in the late '70s, so I'm sure it could be done :)

I was bricking it when Moore got injured...thought we'd have to start with a very young lad in goal and it would have a knock on effect on the defence as they focussed on protecting him.

However, on the basis of yesterday (only 1 game I know) my fears are greatly reduced. Excellent shot-stopping, good command of his area, dealt with crosses well, and made some genuinely incredible saves. Yes he needs to work on his kicking, and as others have said I'd like to see us play it out from the back more, but overall a superb debut, and undoubtedly earned us 3 points with a superb clean sheet. Well played Jamal...keep it up and Moore will have a lot of work to do to get his spot back when fit again.

Somebody on P or G last night said he reminded him of Hightower from Police Academy.

His first kick was dreadful and I feared we'd signed a dud. After that, although his kicking was, er, variable, he made some great saves and he hardly even needs to jump to catch crosses :-)

Overall I thought he was great. Made a few mistakes and his kicking wasn't great, however more than made up for it with the saves he pulled off.
