So we’ve resigned a bloke with a sick note as long as a rolled out bog roll
About as mobile as a tank ( with Rothwell similar ) and can’t hack more than sixty minutes
Underwhelming is an understatement

I understand that the Samaritans are manned all night.

Don’t know if this is still held, record wise but Jairo became the Eredivisie’s youngest-ever debutant scorer back in 2013.

He also has had a 34 appearance season with Palace in the Premier League. For me it just makes sense this one, he does the simple things really well. It’s up to Wilder and the recruitment team to work out how they are going to get the best out of him and how things switch if they decide to limit minutes. He is capable of playing longer than 60 minutes but with 5 subs we should be able to balance the side. He also said in an interview in March that he was settled in Sheffield and could see himself here for 3 or 4 years. He is only 30 in September so I personally can see him extending and potentially us putting another contract on the table.

That season was 6 years ago the following 4 seasons he played.18 games in total and a 33 league game season 6 years ago is the highest in his career in 7 years at Palace,
the other six years in total he played 43 games average 7 games a season

How can this make sense unless we are desperate ? yes he can be effective but whats the point of being effective for an hour then losing the game when he goes off, why invest with the alleged limited funds we have on a player whose career is littered in injury ( this also applies to Phillips)

Our track record in due diligence in recruitment is laughable. Every signing has risk but ffs our history on players with CVs littered with injuries, with the odd glorious exception, is really embarrassing and pathetic

At the moment he’s all we’ve got we will be losing Peck leaving Rothwell and a struggling Arblaster ( who wasn’t the second coming before his injury)
I hope we can bring in better midfield options
A sick note as long as a rolled out bog roll

Every signing is a gamble , Brewster , Shackleton , Davies , Cannon ( I do think he will improve this season ) have all underwhelmed.

This guy has played brilliant when on the pitch, yes his age and fitness are a factor, but sometimes you just got to go for it , stays fit and can build up his fitness a little it’s a no brainer , class player !!

Against Wednesday away he wasn’t subbed until 90+2 which shows he is capable of going the distance in matches, we don’t get to know the ins and outs of player prep unless it happens to be mentioned. Like with Phillips on debut, Wilder said he was only meant to do 60 minutes from the conditioning staff but pushed that out to nearly 75.

With Jairo, it’s not like he has to settle into the club and work out new faces, playing style etc. we have an option that is quality, it might be the case we use him the other side of matches and he brings his calming influence from 60 minutes to finishing out games when we are up by a goal. Or he may well press on and do 75-80 mins if needed. The budget we have and the constraints we are under I would rather have Jairo in there than Phillips. We do need to sort out our CBs and a couple of other positions but for the club to renegotiate a contract rather than just auto extend is a smart move and not one we have done of late. Since the substitutions went up there are different expectations on players now, when you had 3, you needed the whole squad to do 90 and a lot were either injury changes or possibly tactical (not really for us) back when Warnock had Jags, we didn’t even need to worry about a sub keeper but some had one eye out on that. We can now almost use subs like Rugby Union do they have 8 for 15 players usually they make the changes around 60 minutes and that is accepted practice for Jairo that would work out at 70 minutes. Which isn’t to far off.

I was voted the David Cassidy look a like in 1974 , I could last for over 1.5 mins when love making in 1978 , on Sundays I could demolish a full English , play for the Blue Bell , drink five pints , have two helpings of Sunday roast , get all the questions right on Bullseye, go out and have another five pints and finish the day off with a Chinese ,… and still get up at 5.30am to make the fire before catching the bus to work …

However , now a days I can’t pull up my pants 🩲 on some mornings and have to sit down every third step going from upstairs to the kitchen .

I still look like David Cassidy although he has passed on (could it be for ever David ? - no) and I’m available for Utds midfield

For him to be effective there needs to be a physically strong energetic box to box midfielder alongside him. Souza type. Thats the gaping hole in the middle that hasnt been filled since Souza left.
thats exactly the sort of profile we should be looking for, but a) they’re pretty pricy and b) wilder has never really gone for that type of player. Even his strong centre backs like Egan & O’Connell weren’t the biggest.
