Never moan about cranie lol who the hell would was great when used . experience counts for little we have thrived without it this reeks of sentimentality . England captain we can build on that success then hahahah . I'm not against him he was great but for us many years ago.

If experience counts for little, just a quick question, was Ronaldo a better player on the day he signed for Man Utd, or the day he signed for Juventus?

I'm over the moon with this! I see him as kind of a highly upgraded version of Jake Wright. Also, pace is NOT going to be an issue for us at the back, I highly doubt teams are going to be hitting us on the break.

Also, pace isn't everything, especially as a defender - If it was, people like Mertesacker would never have had a career, nevermind being a world cup winner.

I admire your confidence.

For me pace at the back is an issue, and I highly suspect a number of teams will be hitting us on the break next season, partly due to pace at the back, partly, partly due to our gung-ho spirit and partly due to our presumed formation.

I shall look out for him when I next play the crazy golf tournament in Skegness.

PS. (Can you pass on any tips about how to get it through the windmill?)
I can't help you with your crazy golf skills, but at the time I wrote that post I was in possession of information that Jags would be signing for us but I chose not to be ITK!
(Although I did share it with a couple of people on here in private!) 😉

I’m amazed there isn’t a “Are you happy with the Jagielka signing?” poll yet.

That is even more "sexy" than being ITK. Being ITK but not telling anyone! ;) A CITK - "Closet In The Know". Brilliant!

Now I wouldn't mind being one of them. Do you have to play golf though to be one? Because I can't bleedin' stand golf. "Spoils a good walk" - as Mark Twain said in 1948 - even though he died in 1910.

Golf courses, a place for men, to go and be with men and dress up funny with one glove hanging out the arse pocket of their trousers, and disappear from their family and loved ones for hours on end - then wonder why their marriage has failed.

(bit cynical, I know!) ;)

Hang on, somebody quoted Calvert - Lewin as saying Jagielka was still one of the quickest in the Everton squad.
Do you or anyone know how quick/slow he actually is?? or is it just normal expectation that at 36 he's slow. Naturally he will have lost some of his speed, that doesn't make him slow. He's a good athlete, looks after himself. Above all he's the right fit for our manager
I’m not saying he is slow. Read the last sentence again. I hope he still has it.

My point was that people keep talking about experience whereas other tangible attributes like pace are far more important to us.

Steve Bruce has experience, but I wouldn’t want him pulling the shirt on (not that he’d get it over his gut).

Now that we've signed jags, I think we all agree his best position will be backup to Egan and occasionally bash if needed. Do we think Stearman might be offloaded? And a genuine competition/upgrade for the Rcb role brought in. Mcnair and Lenihan are the ones we've been linked with.

Who's next? Naughton, Walker? It reminds me a bit of that Ripping Yarns sketch where they went back and brought all the old Barnstoneworth United players out of retirement. :D

As has been said I’m looking more than just what
Jags might offer on the pitch
We did what we did last season in part due to the impact of the whole squad
Many of which didn’t get much game time
When they did they did not disappoint
But I bet they also had a big influence on training and keeping the dressing room in good spirit
Jags will be the same
I understand folk being underwhelmed
We would obviously like as many top signings as possible
Apart from the swag they need to fit in to our system
Look no further than last season, many including me were disappointed that we didn’t get Waghorn
We got Didsy Along with all the negative predictions from Ipswich who thought he was shite
That was £5 million saved right there
Anyhow, pace to one side, If jags can still find a top corner from 40 yards that will do for me

Well I just hope there’s still an available seat on the Portugal flight, they’re going today and to be honest, I think they’ve cut it a bit fine.

I reckon Jagielka might have to meet them there later in the week, travel with Watkins, Maupay and McBurnie 👍🏻

What a fuck up, typical United 🙄

We're Premier League now, it's all private jets and limo's!

....who knows the club....

Not being an argumentative arse, just genuinely always been puzzled by this phrase. What advantage does knowing a club give to a player?

And don't say ''..because they know what a special place it is...'' because everyone thinks that about their own club ;)

In your position as Mr Twitter?

Ha! I'm just a bog standard Twitter user like the thousands of other Blades who use it. I'm nowt fucking special, certainly not to an extent where I'd be happy having the nickname 'Mr. Twitter'.

Because it's the club's website. Not a social media site.

What's wrong with announcing it on the O/S (then Twitter) and doing the wanky Twitter video the next day?

As I've pointed out, there's nowt that appears on social media which isn't on the O/S within 20 minutes of being uploaded. The media team will gravitate towards where the most usage is, and as our socials these days will be far more popular than our O/S, that's where the attention will go.

You clearly think it's shit, I get that. Unfortunately it's tough titties, really.

Massive upgrade as back up from Stearman, as Stearman was from Jake Wright. Boats loads of Prem experience. Good in the dressing room and another captain.

Great signing for me on a free transfer.

Google John Daly. That is the kind of golf I play, theres no finer "sport" that you can have a Cuban cigar on the go whilst knocking back some tinnies. Except darts actually, which I also play. only the best sports for me.

I’ve only ever had one very brief conversation with Jagielka, which was in late 2007 when he was at Everton. He’d just partnered Phil Neville in midfield and looked poor – weird to think that they first played him there after his signing, given he’d shown the previous season that his best position at that level was in defence. It happened after the game, I mentioned who I supported, and his attention quickly moved from the game to that – “we aren’t doing very well are we?” was his reaction, amidst various Everton fans that had come up to seek his autograph. He’d had a bad game, plenty at the game were audibly frustrated by him when he was on the ball (the Everton group I was with thought we’d sold them a dud), and he could have said ‘they/you’ aren’t doing well – he instead said ‘we’.

He’s not a Walker or Maguire that’ll pop up in the crowd, but he clearly still had an affinity to the club, and clearly still does.

Have you seen like likes of spurs, city or especially Liverpool play recently - their breaking at speed is frightening! 😳

That said he’s been signed for his experience and leadership and not his recovery speed. Could be a valuable addition
Who do you think is the quickest out of egan,o'Connell, bash, stearman and jags ?

Mrs Trig, in an attempt to show some interest in Jags’ return has just read an article about him and his return to Bramall Lane. After she’d finished she said she was surprised he’d been to prison twice, which was news to me. She showed me the article which read:-

“In his first spell with the club, Jagielka twice ended up in goal for lengthy periods.........” That was v Millwall 2004 and v Arsenal 2006.

So, in goal, not gaol, bless her :-)
