Regards Jagielka, doubt he’d fit our style of play and assume he’d be very expensive wages for a back up player. So it’s a no from me.

Every single word captured the magnificence of this man. PM was exceptional, unique, extraordinary in all aspects of his game. The fact that he played so few games for United is what saddens me. Coutts at his best was up there, some players just rise above everyone else, so it was with McGrath, he made defending look as if all you had to do was slip on a shirt, lace up your boots, and off you go.....if only! I doubt what made PM so special can be taught, but for what he was as a player we should be grateful to have seen a player this good.

I hardly think it's a 'statement of intent' - I can't see many PL teams terrified of us now that we've signed Jags.

However it's a good solid bit of business and his experience will be vital if we are to finish 17th+

I think you and a number of others are greatly under estimating jags, he is a great signing for us. It's what he will bring behind the scenes not just on the pitch that will be invaluable

I agree we cant forget that basham is our most experienced premier league with 12 or 18 games with Bolton over a decade ago. as we know that wilder consider off pitch as important as on pitch, which is why billy sharp who I thought was a bit left field captain. has turned into potentially wilder 1st inspired decision. Jagielka can speak some of the others in the tough times.

there is a worry of tainting the legacy but if establish PL club in burnley want him cant be that bad, we don't need a keeper on the bench & maybe he will finish the job. finally avoid relegation with us albiet 12 years later

Pretty good, only 3 errors in the first sentence.

Stearman played 77 times for Wolves in the Premier.
Bash was at Blackpool.
Blackpool were in the Prem 2010/11, so only 8 years ago.

I think it was stat from the starting 11, sky sports showed at the end of the season showing our inexpierence. but I couldn't remember specifics as the end of the season is hazy for the most of us 😁
 
I've seen a number of pundits recently, making the point that the adjustment that promoted clubs most frequently struggle with in the Premier League, is the step-up in quality of striker that they come up against week in and week out. Promoted teams can assimilate to the improved standards around the rest of the pitch, but it's a real challenge at the back.

To that extent, getting in some serious experience in defence makes sense. As good as our defenders are, having a player who has dealt with these strikers for years and isn't going to be remotely fazed by the 'names' is an astute thing to do. Doubly so for us if, as we expect, we'll be going in with an inexperienced keeper too.
 

We are 1 nil up away from home and we need to protect the lead. Bring on Jags either in defence or just in front of it instead of Ollie.
 
Good thing about him is that hes not just a 36 year old moving to a club to wind down and get a pay check, hes coming home and will give 110% I'm sure.
 
People say the quality of striker is far superior and he can help with this?

This is a player that couldn't get into an Everton team conceding 3+ regularly the first few months.

Regular? They conceded 3 or more 3 times before Christmas.

He also started their 1-0 home win against Arsenal and played the full 90. (scored too)
Was brought on to shore things up in the 4-0 thumping of man poo

He only started 7 games, 4 sub apperances and in those 11 games, Everton kept 7 clean sheets.

Can all juggle stats around to make them appear better than they are...
