Let's just fucking get it over and done with, eh...

Signing him would indicate a couple of things....

We're struggling to find suitable right footed defenders at the right price.

We're bringing him in as a money saving signing to ensure we can afford our attacking targets.

Or it could be that Wilder wants some Premier League experience that is lacking within our club. He was pretty good in his last game for Everton

I still think we'd need another 2 CBs even if he signs though.

RCB - Basham / Jags. Good enough?
LCB - O'Connell / Jags. Nah.

He's a good cover option for the central role, and experience is useful, but based on the above he'd strike me as a bit of a spare, additional signing.
He’s better than Stearman. Competition for Egan rather than just cover.

I must be one of a very few who would welcome his return. I too would question whether he could do the RCB role but as shown last season, he is certainly still able to play at Prem level as a CB and would push Egan far harder for the starting position than Stearman ever would. His experience, professionalism and attitude would also benefit the group of players

One way to make it more viable in terms of numbers and spend is to bring in players for RCB and LCB who can also play wing back on their respective sides.

Holgate and Pedersen for example.

That might be Wilder's thinking.

Relatively cheap cover....OK....but as Ricky said, we still need at least another 1 if not 2 across the back line

On a 2 year with a training role, prem experience cited to help the club move from Champ to Prem.

Good signing in my opinion.

Kean Bryan can play LCB. Never seen him play mind, so not even sure he’s up to it. Still also need cover for Stevens because if he gets injured we’re in bother.

Couple of injuries and suspensions and we literally can’t field a 3 man defence....

Would add experience and much needed cover. I’d take him back on trial and see how he goes on

I honestly feel that getting Jags in will help in a few areas & not just the playing side. He has been a quality Premier League CB for a good few years & someone for our current players to learn from, as well as decent competition to keep them on their toes. Sure he is getting on, but his positional & organisation skills are first class, I saw him turn out for Everton towards the end of last season & he pretty much strolled through it. For many reasons I see it as a good thing if he comes.

DBs prediction ?

This thread will come back to haunt and custard pie a fair few that don’t get things wrong !

UTB

Bryan was awful in the cup game last season. But saying that so was Stearman

McGrath was a real eye opener to me too.
It was like watching a magic trick, a form of hypnotism or mind reading.
McGrath looked so slow but was always the first to the ball.
He knew where the ball would go before it was kicked/ passed, never seen anything like it before.
He made defending look so so easy as he strolled around around the park.

Regards Jagielka, doubt he’d fit our style of play and assume he’d be very expensive wages for a back up player. So it’s a no from me.
McGrath was without doubt one of the best defenders I have ever seen live. ☝ describes perfectly
