Robinson is a very nervous footballer - it's as though he is aware of his liabilities and tries too hard to combat them.

He's a left back that CW HAD to sign, because he wanted him before he went to QPR and he wanted him as he went to Forest.

CW simply couldn't give it up - poor signing and never ever a centre half.

Has anyone mentioned that he also got skinned far too easily on the left in the second half by that big lump up top who pulled his shot across the goal.

Dear Mr Slav - I don't mind two centre halves, but they both have to have ability to do that job if we are intent on pushing both full backs forward (good). thanks. FB

Before the game Chris Morgan said “ I’m glad the manager has stayed with Jack”. I’m not he made several mistakes in the game but once again one of them has cost us dearly. Basham would have got that header right.

Not to mention his attempted cross towards the end of the game.. The man is so so toss it's a joke.

The only way Robinson could work in this team is as a standard left back.

Basham or Lopata have to start next game that twat is giving the whole defence the jitters. he had a hand in both their goals tonight by getting under a high ball Ok Olsen fucked up for the 1st too but Johnson was through anyway due to C3P0 getting in the wrong position. The second goal again he gets under the high ball doesn't head it into the next this time like the own goal the other week but straight to their player instead another give away. Fucking useless twat.

Slav should have taken Billy off in the last 5mins for either Bash or McBurnie you knew they would hoof everything into the box. We got bullied tonight and that will happen a lot in this division we have to be more physical, not helped by a very poor ref mind you and a lino 10 yards behind play in the 1st half.

i think egan could play left centre back and bring basham in at right centre back think that could be the last game robinson plays for us

I've thought it so many times before. To be fair, Wilder seemed to bury him after that bizarre handball in the PL. But somehow he returned.

It's been said already on this thread. But its clearly true. He is one of the worst defenders we have ever had in the last 10-20 years. Most of the League 1 defenders were better. Nosworthy and McEveley were better in the air. He is utter utter shite. He is costing us at least a goal per game. Against big championship strikers we need the strength of Lopata. Even the weak Davies is better than him.

Bash or Lopata. Only seen Lopata a couple of times, but he wins everything in the air, he is strong, and if you run into him, you fucking bounce off, he is built like a tank, and likes to go forward.

Bash would put his body on the line, rather than give them a sniff of goal.

Two points dropped in the dying seconds against Lancashire cloggers.

Good point that quite a few have already made; we have a worrying lack of height when coming up against industrial teams like Preston.

I do think our issues with long balls and set pieces go deeper than Robinson but it is ridiculous how many goals he's individually cost us since we signed him. I don't see how a wrong sided Basham could be worse. He can at least do basic defensive things like heading it away.

He's now officially my least favourite United player of all time

The only way Robinson could work in this team is as a standard left back.

Whenever he's been left back before he's scared shitless to dribble, if an opposing player comes within 10 yards of him he panics and passes sidewards or backwards.

It's easy to jump on someone's back when they're off form but the heavy criticism isn't a kneejerk reaction. He's physically weak, poor in the air and nervous. Tonight he commited himself into a challenge (nowhere near the ball) allowing a PNE player to breeze past him and get a scuffed shot off. All he had to do was stand him up. That's all and he couldn't even manage that.

Bash doesn't need to be wrong sided. Egan is more than capable playing on the left having done so for ROI.

Can’t think of many players that warrant a ‘we’ve only got ten men’ chant from our own fans but this guy is the absolute pits. I don’t know what he’s even meant to be good at.
Chris, Paul Mitchell…we were literally challenging for europe and you signed him as a back up to our best player, what the hell were you thinking.

Christ knows what they saw in him

Robinson is an adequate centre half in a back three. Not great, not terrible, passable. Our manager insists on playing a system that suits none of our defenders. If you play four at the back your four have to be better in the air than your five. They have more aerial space to cover and more players to mark. They also have to be quicker because they have to cover more space. If you have Norwood and Fleck protecting them even more so as midfield runners won't be tracked.

The bigger concern is any team with more than 1 player over 6ft tall bully us and win the majority of long ball they hoof up front!

Robinson was shite but certainly not on his own! We gotnthe result we deserved and need to work out a way of playing against teams like Preston as there are many more to come!
We have failed to recruit the physically dominant CB that I have been screaming for since March 2020 - negligence by the club & shit selection by Slav who could have Bash or Lopata in there against a team of giants who pissed on us in the air all game.
If Bash or Lopata not fancied , get McBurnie on , he's the best defensive header of the ball , he's done it loads

Hi Stegosaurus here

I'd like to point out the bias. I start a thread called "Robinson is Wank" everyone disagrees. Yet now everyone agrees with this thread.

I think.some posters here have Stegosaurus Derangement Syndrome.

We need to be realistic about ANY player if we have any intension of finishing in the top 6, and Robinson doesn't fit anywhere for that scenario.

Preston were just another well organised, compact, decent hard working team that simply screams mediocrity - we will drift to the same unless we step up when playing these sorts of teams.

If we are intent on playing 4 at the back, with full backs that are very very adventurous like we play with, then the centre backs have to be absolutely rock solid in what they do and full backs that can cross a ball. Remind yourself of the cross Robinson attempted from the right side of the pitch (think he was there for a long throw in the second half) and his attempt at a simple cross into the box was woeful when under no pressure at all.

If we're ambitious to still finish top six, we need much better.

Just watched equalizer back. That ball is headed clear by any half decent centre half - it is there to be won, and his run to the ball is not impeded (he's not wrestling with anyone to get to it)
This is basic stuff.

Unfortunately I don't have any hilarious names for Jack Robinson to add to this high quality debate.

I think solving our weakness in the air defensively is going to be a huge challenge for Jokanovic. Without O'Connell, we don't have a first team centre back who is above average in the air. Egan's OK and Basham, Davies and Robinson are all below average for the position in that regard. Not ideal when we're facing teams like PNE who have wingers and full-backs taller than our centre backs.

With the signing of Davies, it seems unlikely we'll bring anyone else in in January in that position so how do we solve this problem? Think Olsen will help a bit. Do we need to play McBurnie so we have at least one player who is good at winning defensive headers?

teams full of giants.
Football has moved on in the last 2 years. Teams are bigger and athletic. Our promotion team was just about big enough but Wilder and Knill spent the next two years signing smaller, weaker players. It's a huge problem across the squad that SJ is only just beginning to getting to grips with and will probably take a few more transfer windows yet.
