If this was the only transfer out, all summer, it's a good one.

From the first time I watched him away at wolves I knew he was crap. Got a major mistake in him EVERY game. A complete bomb scare.

It's a shame he didn't go a lot sooner. I would have slept more soundly during Wilders matches knowing he wasn't in the team.

I think some people are forgetting our shit show of a season in the PL (the second one!) He was the only player who seemed to give a damn week in week out! He was the only player that year who could hold his head up high!
And he was good enough to chat to my boys and have his picture taken with them.
He’s played a lot of games for us (more than most) and I for one would welcome him back anytime! 🍻
Good luck Robbo ⚔️
The best player in a defence that conceded 104 goals.

The unwatchables.

Not much of an accolade is it?

Bittersweet this one. He shouldn’t have been in a position to be starting for us for the last 3 seasons, maybe 4 if we’d recruited wisely at CB following JOC’s injury. He did have to play and as a limited footballer has cost us some goals.

He’s also made a good few slide tackles, scored some memorable goals and been a committed character. This season he’s been poor, but so has everyone.

GLTTL

2: Fantastic long throws, almost like corners.
Tend to go into the goalkeeper’s hands though!

Old JLT has certainly polarised the fanbase.
I can see both sides but think him leaving was overdue.
I won’t miss him but GLTTL.

Our best piece of business all summer is our last.

He's just not very good. He'd have looked better had he played in the 90s, when defenders were often a bit more "agricultural". But in current times, he's a man whom the game has left behind.

He panics under any pressure at all, often resulting in him frantically twisting and turning to find space to lump it upfield. But sometimes, it instead ends in an absolute fuck up that gives up a goal. An unreliable CB is a death wish, and we've tolerated that for 5 years.

I'm delighted he's gone, and I don't want him back at any point. Let Brum fans suffer his presence instead now.

A steady mid table championship defender, however I think he too often is led by his emotions which sometimes is a positive but more often than not leads to lapses in concentration and errors in judgement.

I was critical of him over the years but I think as the main ever present he became a focal point for frustration during our bad spells, and a lot of the criticism was unwarranted.

Wish him all the best.

Clearly not clicked with the new manager or a change in style so good time to leave.

What's strange about him with us is whether in championship or PL he looked the same. Limited but gave everything. I still think he was a player who came out of our most recent PL season with a bit of pride and that probably has been forgotten.

Good luck Jack, you served this club well often representing us as captain.

For any Birmingham fans reading:

Strengths
1: He’s a battler, quite physical/ combative/ emotional who hates losing. As mentioned his never accept defeat character stood out in our terrible PL season. We’d be losing 3-0 and many of the players had given up where as Jacks attitude was we might be losing 3-0 but don’t want to lose 4-0. He’s a winner , very competitive and explains why Wilder liked him and made him captain.

2: Fantastic long throws, almost like corners.

Weaknesses
1: Lack of pace. Copes with most Championship level players but struggled when up against athletic Olympic sprinter type PL strikers or anyone with quick feet or pace.
2: Prone to rushes of blood. Had a habit of making bad mistakes, like falling over the ball, slipping or passing it straight to their player. Also did alot of grappling and holding in the box when we were defending corners.
3: Can be rash and too emotional. He doesn’t back down from intimidation so he’s the one that runs into the middle of a crowd of players when there might be a fight. Also gets involved in dissent towards the ref when things go against him. He’ll make stupid tackles meaning he’s sent off. When receiving abuse from his own fans for making a bad error he’s the type that shouts abuse back at the fan who abused him.

Overall
I’d say he’s normally a decent probably average standard Championship central defender, definitely good enough to be in any CC squad but he’s miles away from ever being PL level. Slightly too slow, too rash and makes bad errors too often so can be a liability/ accident waiting to happen.
Agree with that.

Watch Burnley 5-2 and it sums him up. Mistake for their goal but doesn’t let his head drop and scores to redeem himself.

He did have a thankless task effectively stepping in for one of our best centre backs in recent times, Jack O’Connell.

Never gave less than 100%. But clearly lacked quality for the top level. Always good for a potential goal conceding error.

That’s the end of the 100+ goal defence at least!

It's a shame how it ended. I had always liked him and rated him more than many others seemed to. But his recent demeanour and conduct (aside from the various rumours about his behaviour off field) has been extremely disappointing for a club captain.

GLLTL and all that, but I am glad he has gone now.

Just have think about how , as a limited old player , he came to have an "option over the club" to extend the one year contract we gave him in summer 2024.
And who gave him such a contract term , and why , when
He was obviously not worthy if more than 12 months and
We really should have been moving him on this summer.

I totally get that, unfortunately some players do get more than they are worth from a playing side of things. It’s always happened and it always will happen.

In fairness to JLT, what’s he going to say? ‘Oh no thanks, I’m not actually that good so I won’t take another year on good wages thanks’

I just think that some of the things said about him are bang out of order. A lot of what fans ‘know’ actually start of as one persons assumption which somehow get repeated enough for it to be ‘fact’.
I

I really don't care about his ability too much and the merits of it, he's done a decent job for the most part in a role that he was never really cut out for. Probably played more than 100 times than he really should've done.

Just glad he's gone as I think he's outstayed his usefulness to the point he's become a distration. He's obviously a big influence in the dressing room - and every sign points to it being a negative one at this stage.

I’m glad we’ve got rid. Had a few good moments but many bad ones too and part of both those shocking PL relegation sides. Lots of rumours about him being a bad apple too.

Thank the Lord the wildebeast has gone - at last , club removes what should never have happened in the first place.
The last vestige of the Wilder era , a toxic hangover , off our backs.
It's almost like the club is finally getting a grip of the situation but why has it taken so long ?
They've been in cloud cuckoo land all summer.
And I've been asking for some proper big dominant CBs since JoC retired and subsequently when Souttar was so unlucky.
That Bindon was nowhere near ready - no idea why we got him.
But with today's two CBs , I honestly feel we can turn over a new leaf in defence.
Proper recruitment in defence for a long time. We finally dont have to see bomb scare at the back no more, clearly a toxic person and how he was ever made captain is beyond me, he has never and will never be captain material.

Regards Bindon im hoping that it's club / manager thats realised that hes not good enough, and hes just here as back up now, with a bit of luck we can send him back in January (if theres a clause in there) and use that loan spot elsewhere and bring in 1 real quality player.

Even as I write some Brummie version of Roy will be scouring this thread for comments...!

Good luck to him with a new start.

He always tried his best and wore his heart and on his sleeve, but the fact he was here (and largely first choice) through 5 years highlights how poor our CB recruitment has been for half a decade until this window and how we have limped through using the loan market for so long.

He isn’t strong in the air, isn’t good positionally, doesn’t pass well, doesn’t carry the ball well and has no pace. On the flip side as above he is a grafter and liked a tackle but I wouldn’t say he was a true leader when the chips were down.

Tanganga showed in 90 minutes everything we have been missing from a centre half for a long time.

The interest when he's past his best at 32 tells its own story. Excellent back up centre back that stopped our bunch of softies over the last few years getting walked through on many occasions. He was never really big or strong enough to play consistently in a back four but his mentality, strength of character and approach allowed him to make a decent fist of it. In a back three he looked more than comfortable at Champ level.

So many underachievers at United contrasted starkly with a rare maximiser. If he has a weakness it's at times not knowing his own limitations. Trying to play out on the half turn and keep the ball rather than lump it in the channel. It's really weird how the player that respected the badge and the fans the most somehow became became simultaneous scapegoat and cult hero. Robbo consistently got blamed for others mistakes by people who don't understand the rudiments of the game. The Wembley goal being an obvious case in point. A golden boy makes a huge fuck up and it's blamed on Robbo because he can't bail him out. Discipline is also something he was routinely called on despite it being perfectly adequate throughout his tenure at United.

The only will to win a United player has shown this season is Robbo vs Brum and Tanganga vs Boro. Hopefully this huge void in mentality will be filled by Mee, Godfrey, Tanganga and McGuiness. It's desperately needed since the old guard (Sharp, Basham Norwood, Egan, Stevens, Baldock, etc) moved on.

In fairness to JLT , I blame only Wilder for what I will call "the JLT mystery saga".

And as for facts , there are some which are obvious and incontrovertible.
