Issue is with that, we won't pay the fee or wages for a experienced, proven forward.

I agree that they are in short supply but the window is not yet closed.

It would be a U turn of Governmental type proportions if he were to go spending all his budget on potential because he can't fullfil his preference.

Patience and trust is required.

I am sure that there will still be irons in the fire and if nothing has happened by 9th Aug then he will turn to the loan market for his young potential.

But by going into the loan market for a forward. That would be dismissing the "proven, experienced forward" mould. Don't you agree?

Absolutely.

By then it is a case of needs must, until the window closes or all his preferences have signed elsewhere it isn't.

Don’t we have enough proven experienced strikers? We need youthful exuberance too
In my honest opinion no, we have mcgoldrick who's knocked about in the championship mostly. Clarke, who's done it last season who we seem to be hinging all our hopes on. Sharp who again, did it last season. As much as I'd like to go again with the current crop of strikers, I can't help feeling we need a proven striker who's done it consistently over a few seasons.

Truth be told. A punt on a player such as Marriott was what I was hoping for. That boat has sailed. Fuck it. What's fat Ronaldo up to?

I can understand why; most of the "championship experienced" suggestions of Waghorn, Gallagher & Hogan haven't filled me with excitement either (not that I'm doubting that Wilder couldn't get the best of them, they just wouldn't be my 1st choice)

I think, like many, I'm hoping we sign a player that doesn't actually exist: a (affordable) young, pacey forward with good feet and a good scoring record.

See, I wouldn't have minded us taking a punt on Cole or Bogle. Both fit the young and pacey mould. But it seems we've lost interest in Cole and Bogle was taken by Cardiff.

Also all these posters rattling on about young players in lower leagues with potential to improve obviously didn't hear Wilder say that his preference is for experienced players that can come in and make a difference straight away.
But like I've just said their wages are the sticking point, you have to pay the going rate and most proven quality strikers in this division are on wages above our highest earner which would 'break our wage structure'

We can't have it both ways

DERBY LAND MARRIOTT

Absolutely fucking peanuts.

Do we think he chooses us over derby even if we’d agreed a fee?
Guaranteed game time over potentially a few cameos from the bench at derby. If the price really was 3 million potential to rise to 5 then that's a steal, we should've been in for him at that kinda price range. But! Hey ho. We move on.

Would be willing to bet that he'll be up there in terms of goals scored this coming season. Lump a tenner on it. You won't be disappointed

See, I wouldn't have minded us taking a punt on Cole or Bogle. Both fit the young and pacey mould. But it seems we've lost interest in Cole and Bogle was taken by Cardiff.

Bogle had an uninspiring loan at Peterborough last year, and hasn't been close to rekindling his Grimbsy form at his last 3 clubs: I suspect there's something wrong (be it attitude or ability)

Cole is an interesting one, though from what I hear, he's quite "raw" - which seems to be one way of politely saying "Not yet good enough" - I'm not sure whether or not Wigan would want to sell either.

I think Bogle would be a good punt to make now that Cardiff have gone up. Didn't get much chance in the Championship so I can't see him getting much game time in the Premier League. I reckon they'd be happy to take the hit on their initial fee paid or at least sell him for the same amount.

Think it's down to attitude with Bogle. As for Cole, with the right mentors he could become a very valuable asset imo

£3m rising to £5m is the sort of price we should've been in for Marriott at.

It's a good gamble for Derby, it would've been an even better one for us. Because in our team, as part of his preferred front 2, he'd score goals. As I believe Armstrong would.

You obviously know better than Wilder.

I would think that he believes that his policy is realistic

He can’t be top scorer and ‘only coming off the bench for a few appearances’

I think if derby want him he’d go there ahead of us. But agree we should have had a punt and tested the water

You never know lol, all joking aside. I think if he starts the majority of games. He'll be up there amongst the top three top scorers.

Facts are facts I'm afraid champ.
The likes of Hogan, Assombalonga, Gallagher, Vydra, Kodjia would break our structure as it stands.

Not doubting wilder for a second, but the wage policy certainly won't be realistic for proven 20+ strikers. That I'm almost certain of.

I know where you are coming from and I'm not saying that I disagree with you, but Wilder seems to think he can do it.

He knows more than me about every aspect of the business.

Funny but I don't see Waghorn on that list.

Even if your assumption is accurate there will be other players in Wilders mind, and do you know what?

He will already know what they're getting paid now and what it might take to sign them, whereas you are guessing and relying on journalist talk.

Wilder also has a strategy and won't spend money we can't afford.

Are you saying that his strategy is wrong and he's wasting his time?

I certainly hope so, even an unproven young striker complimented with a proven striker would cut it in my opinion. Fear we may be set for a long season failing this. My opinion of course!
