Thought it was 6th vs 5th then the winner plays 4th and then the winner of that plays 3rd.
Therefore giving an advantage finishing 3rd over 4th and also 4th over the others

Or simply state that a team finishing in third at the end of the season 7points ahead of fouth is promoted automatically and the play offs for that division is cancelled.
That way the fourth placed team has to keep playing their best team in the interest of keeping within 7 points.
I chose seven points as 2 wins and a draw ahead.

I think that is a great idea and it keeps all the teams below fighting to stay in touch or they get no chance.

complete and utter moneymaking racket.. if you come third then you are there on merit and should be promoted.. you've had a whole season to get to the position.. i always want the third team to win the playoff but it doesn't seem to happen very often.. i'd even go as far as to say that when the pigs get third, they should have gone up auto :D

Hate the Play offs ,always have done, so our play off record doesn't help my view off them. If there are three promotion places, it should go to the three teams that finish in the top three places, or otherwise why have a league. Play offs mean that a team that has a late run and finishes 6th, then can have three lucky games, or three boring draws and win on penalties to get promoted. (As we have seen in the past) To me it does not seem right.... Call me old fashioned but when I was a lad ................

Play offs are generally good for the game.
The fact we are the shitest (should there be two 't' in shittest?) of the shit when it comes to POFs clouds our judgement of them.

Without the play offs we would not have had that night at Bramall Lane against Forest (Kenilworth Junior's fave Blades match attended, still) or the joy when Halford nodded the winner against Preston.

I understand that all teams know the rules at the start of the season but I agree it doesn't seem fair - that is until we win one! Psychology also affects what goes on in football - if you've been in second most of the season and get pipped for that place in the last league game and you then face the team in sixth in the playoffs who've just sneaked in - I know who'll be in a better frame of mind for the playoffs despite what has happened throughout the season. Not that this will affect us of course as we're going up automatically!!

Five up, five down in each division would be fairer than play-offs while maintaining interest at both ends of the table.

But we would have had the joy of winning promotion to the PL in 2003 following our draw with Wolves with Peschi's last minute equaliser at the Lane (which I think guaranteed third) and the similar joy following our draw at Palace in 2009.

Will you want West Ham and Wednesday to win the play offs in their respective divisions if they finish third?!

The play-offs are nothing more than a money making excercise and a chance for us to glory in the mediocre (same as 4th place in the top division qualifying for the "Champions" League).

In fairness, if we achieve mediocre any time soon we'll be glorying like good'uns. :)

I think there should be some sort of advantage given to a side when there is such a substantial points difference.

If you look at the fact that us or Wednesday could be in 3rd place playing a side in 6th place who are more than 15 points behind, the team in 3rd could be given a goal advantage or something like that?

Something along the lines of 10 points = 1 goal. It would probably be deemed unfair and less entertaining for the neutral, but when teams have such a substantial amount of points they should be given a better advantage than playing at home second in my opinion.

If it's Weds that finish third - No.
If they are in it then it would be very, very funny if they fail at the first hurdle in the play offs

Along with Preston who I think are equally "shitty" in the modern day play offs.
