'It's an absolute disgrace'

This is nothing new. You only have to look at the fan episode of the "United" documentary in 1990 to see how fans reacted then. Warnock regularly called out fans for moaning when we were doing well. I remember as a kid fans arguing with players on the kop. This was when we were a first division side off the back of two promotions in a row. Bassett got incredible stick at times from the stands but overall people remember it as a really special time. The only time I've ever seen United truly together is in Wilders first spell. It doesn't matter how well the team is doing, people are going to get overly emotional in something they're passionate about.

Social media has obviously made things different but I don't think people have changed or become entitled. Praise or Grumble used to just be called Grumble Hour or whatever and was there for fans to moan following games. The praise section only happened because a Wednesday fan phoned in wanting to talk about how good they were playing.
For that old BBC show, I always thought they went looking for someone who’d moan. My recollection is that even when we were getting pumped every week late in 1990, Bassett was still getting pretty solid support. My dad was a bit of a “knocker”, said the football was crap compared to what he grew up watching, but he also acknowledged that Bassett had no alternative and had worked miracles with what he had. As I recall, it only really got bad towards the end of Bassett’s stay.

My dad used to complain about the football under Bassett and mention Tony Currie a lot. Think it was quite common from those who saw the mid -70s team.

Folk are pointing towards Wilder's post match comments, but it was the Oxford performance that started this. WTF went off after the Cov win? Did the players think it was job done?
It's football, form fluctuates and anyone can beat anyone.

Fans desperately search for (and make up) reasons so they have answer and can explain it to themselves. Most of the time these reasons are complete bollocks.
