hope it doesn't but 1 from 15 is one big issue.

The elephant in the room is the other, we've stopped discussing the promised investment, funds avaiable to the manager, think Liverpool, jam tommora etc.

Because CW got us off to a fantastic start on a shoestring I fear the board will be thinking he can do it without them digging to deep. McCabes reticence to spend when we got into the PL with the intention of spending when the money came in cost us very dearly.

Now we are faced with the moment of truth. We need investment in the team, more quality, more pace and more depth with less of sentiment and hopefuls, at least 4 players need to go, at least 4/5/6 need to come in.

Alas, the board are noticeable by their silence. If investment is not forthcoming in early January I will start to wonder if it's all been smoke and mirrors yet again. McCabe and HRH bog roll don't have the funds so new owners or investors should be sorted by now. Unless it's the best kept secret ever (apart from BT's departure) there are no new investors, these things take months to sort and are usually well rumoured and reported, but nothing, silence, tumbleweeds etc. The only discussion and rumours are of lower league players that personally I would have been happy with to get us out of L1. But to capitalise on our brilliant challenge we need players that can challenge for the PL not just keep us in the Championship.

Hope I'm totally wrong but I'm getting worried!

Burton away was the moment - Coutts made ALL of the team tick and everyone knew their job - a sort of well oiled wheel.

A team works around it's centre midfield - 2 of the 4/5/6 must be centre midfield to influence a game.

CW does things early - ie: the bid 2 weeks ago for Leonard. Think he will know who he wants already and some may already be sorted in principal.

But agreed, we need players to get us and keep us in the top 6.

McCabe and HRH don’t have the money to fund spending like Wolves, or Wendy. SpendIng £25m on four players.

But just those two names shows that is not the main thing, it’s how the money is spent. If they can provide 7-8 Million in January for three players I would be confident our manager would spend It wisely to keep us in play off contention.

If however that figure is out of their bracket then they probably have taken us as far as they can,

They should rename this club as Sheffield UNLUCKY , how can you win with ALL the midfield missing , Brooks out , it will get better , but we need to win , the next match Villa away is going to a hard one , from going up in the auto positions were now clinging on to a play off place , but we have come a long way , and as the players start coming back and the transfer window ,and having a fantastic Manager it will get better !

As I see it, given the good start we've had, I'd say the target would be an upper half finish.

I'm not interested in paying silly money for players. If nothing else, why bother, we won't be able to afford their wages? The only way we're likely to sign 3 or 4 good players from this league if we could pay them silly money. We can't.

I'm happy if he's given a £2/3 million and any sales profits. Bring in 2 or 3 permanent and the same again in loans. If there are players we can sign cheap to develop, bring them in as well. We're not likely to sign the finished article. Maybe get lucky abroad but we don't have the scouting networks to pull that off.

it will get better !

It's got to, 1-15 puts us near the bottom of the form table. If our decline is just because of Coutts and the Fleck missing then it proves the point about depth in the squad.

January will tell you whether we're either able or willing to spend, and what the future is likely to hold.

If it's attempts for Gregory and more prolonged pussy footing around Leonard, with little else, then we may need to accept Wilder can only do so much. As well as we've played this season, and how consistent we've been, I still feel we've been at the limit rather than having more to come.

We can't expect rabbits from hats every single transfer window. Mid table this season is very respectable imho but realistically there will need to some notable investment to be serious promotion challengers over 46 games.

Who's this "we" who have stopped talking about investment in January? Hardly a day goes by without it being mentioned.

Many many posters, including club plant me, have voiced concerns about it and whether it will happen or be sufficient to carry on with a promotion challenge. I truly hope it happens , just so There isn't a deluge of"I told you so " posts, as if not going on about it day after day on here means you don't have concerns.

We had a spell earlier in the season where we didn’t have a single fit striker and had to play a 60% Ched Evans. Now we have 1 fit central midfielder.

It’s absolutely outrageous bad luck and we won’t win football matches at this level in these sort of situations.

January is massive. The board either stump up significant funds for transfers or face us slumping into the bottom half. We may never get a better chance at promotion under the current ownership, but they have to act.

It's a general observation ST. 'We' have become a united fan base appeh with the unbelievable run but this is more than a 'blip' this is religation form (not that we are in much danger of that happening but statistically over the past 5 games). Wilder can't do magic all the way to the PL and Europe, McCabes spin not mine!

I think the usual suspects are becoming more vociferous again. Being right being more important than the results on the pitch, despite protestations to the contrary. I believe the vast majority of posters on here have concerns about the level of investment required and what will be forthcoming. But they are stable enough not to bring it up on multiple threads, daily. Some after keeping their gobs shut until this bad run began.

I think its fairly common knowledge that the board were happy with “consolidation” this year- CW has outright stated it. So from their point of view, this season is going absolutely swimmingly.

As a fan base, I think if we’re all being honest, on August 1st most of us fancied us to be comfortable and would have been very happy with upper-mid table, good derby results and maybe an outside shot of the play offs.

Wilder was never going to settle for that. He was always going to demand more. And after the start we had, a lot of the fan base expectation went with Wilder. “He Who Dares” and all that.

Top and bottom of it is that while Wilder and the fans ambitions have grown even further, the noises from McCabe and HRH suggest they are quite happy plodding on. As the OP states; McCabe has form on this, specifically the Prem season; the money we spent after being relegated should have been used in the January window.

Personally, I dont see investment coming in at all. McCabes been playing touch-cock with the Chinese for ages and all thats come of it is building contracts for Scarborough Holdings and a few advertising hoardings at the Lane- which I suspect is all was ever intended to come of it.

Then again, Prince Abdullah came out of nowhere. But after re-emerging earlier this year, he seems to have disapeared again, despite now supposedly being able to commit more time after his Sports Minister job ended.

The line has long been; “We need to get back to the Championship”. Financially thats obvious (we seem to have been on telly more this half season than the last 6 put together). It just seems to me that we’ve got two owners, who are absolutely fine with that at the minute. Unfortunately, this relaxed state is only going to frustrate/stifle the far more ambitious management team and with that, a large chunk of supporters.

And thats the worry for me; if Wilder feels he’s having his hands tied. He’ll surely have offers from elsewhere; especially as we head into the new year and teams start panicking and “sacking season” starts.

While nobody expects £10m signings, stupid wages or “going all-in” on a whiff of promotion, the fact is if McCabe/HRH wont throw some finance in as a show of faith and support to Chris Wilder and the progress he’s made, (especially in the light of Coutts injury) they’ll never do it for anybody.

The phrases “Looking A Gift Horse In The Mouth” and “Shooting Ourselves In The Foot” keep springing to mind. Its the Blades Way!!!!

Are you finally admitting you have been planted by the Club or is it just sarcastic irony or ironic sarcasm , whichever you prefer ?
Or was the "plant me" a general invitation to the forum to punch you ?
(Tee-hee , both questions tongue in cheek).
On the serious side , most realistic Blades (including us) know the good intentions but (relatively) limited resources of the current owners.
So most of us are really happy to take concerns about investment (which create negativity) off the agenda when the first team is playing so well.
However , once the injuries & suspensions bite , we all echo CW's calls to "move the club forward".
Even if cashflow limits the pace.
I just hope CW can do some business in January.
He knows what he wants. We know what he wants. He knows that we know what he wants. He's like an open book on acquisitions.
He knows who he wants to offload. A lot of us know who we'd offload (or relegate to the bench). Being a professional manager , we aren't going to know his thoughts on moving players out , but from today's RS interview , I think his foot's about to connect with a few player's backsides.

Agreed. We all know. Daily reminders from the experts on spouting the bleeding obvious on here changes nothing.

get over it now.. they won’t stump up any cash even if brooks is sold

You posted about it today and on the 5th 6th and 7th of this month.
I've got a stalker

I posted about feckin pork pies nearly every day for a month but no cries from your camp.

I'd say we're having a reality check. Wednesday have lost their only stand-out player (Forestieri) and have struggled ever since. You get away with it in League One, but not when you're up against clubs with the spending power of clubs like Wolves, Villa, Middleborough, Brum, Sunderland etc. etc.

I'll repeat what I said after the Bouncing Day 'Massacre' re. managing expectations. When we went 2-0 up, I said to a mate 'You do realise that anything other than a win will seem like a loss?'

CW/AK and our younger supporters are in unchartered waters now. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

The search facility want renaming?

As analogies go that's not one of the best.

You suggested no one was talking about investment. That's clearly not the case.

How dare you deride the great pork pie thread as not one of the best  it's a feckin legend in its lifetime along with Happy Crabmus (The Crab) and LYDON thinks he found his burlesque outfit (LYDON)

It can get worse and it will . We are in freefall . No money for the JTW , massive player unrest and I'm also hearing Wilders having his head turned by an as yet unnamed football club looking to acquire his services .

I've also heard rumours of bed hopping bonkey madness behind the scenes at the Lane . I must stress though that this is only a rumour right now but if I get anymore info I'll get it on here pronto.

The bed hopping bonkey madness stuff is just a rumour to be fair . And whilst those itk ( like me ) know there's one or two at the Lane with a startling track record in the bed hopping olympics i don't think there's anything in it .

The rest though is nailed on ;)
