Which geniuses thought it would be appropriate to cancel all football ? Ok I’m not going to die or my life be ruined by a football free weekend but if the intention was to honour the Queens passing it would have been more of a tribute and fitting to allow crowds gathered together to sing the National Anthem and silently commemorate. I’m an anti Royalist and if anything this has added to the cause of those who aren’t enamoured with the forelock tugging deference to a remote group of individuals who have been privileged since birth.

it would be interesting to know which individuals thought this would be a cracking idea.

I'm a staunch Republican, I'm not in mourning, and would sooner be in Sheffield tomorrow than home, but I totally understand the rationale at work here and respect and empathise with the majority of the population, who are affected. There's much more to life than football and sometimes it's important to remember that even when you wish it wasn't the case.
Personally I don’t know anyone who’s in mourning because of this. Nicholas Witchell BBC Royal correspondant stated on TV that there will be people out there “ disorientated, confused, rudderless”, I’m sure there are the streets are full of sad cases, but because of the Queens death ? What ideological hyperbolic garbage.

One of the most grotesque things about the 12 days of mourning over Elizabeth's death is the sickening insincerity of it.
Britain's ludicrous new Prime Minister Liz Truss described the deceased monarch as "one of the greatest leaders the world has known", while Labour's Silent Knight heaped praise on her, and pledged to honour her and keep her legacy alive.
These fawning statements clash horribly with what these two used to believe in.
As a Lib-Dem activist Liz Truss called for the abolition of the monarchy, and Keir Starmer openly joked that he was surprised that he was made Queen's Council after having regularly proposed scrapping the royal family.

I’m a monarchist but I’m non of those. I’ve no problem having to miss a game of football as a mark of respect to the death of our head of state, its the end of an era. Another game on Tuesday, hopefully, you don’t have long to wait.
You can always watch the Test Match.

Tributes at the game could have been the mark of respect though, and it would have been no less of an end of an era, that's the point most people are making.

I agree, and I’ve no problem with whichever choice was made. There are arguments for playing and for not playing, I just don’t get too upset if my favoured option isn’t taken.

Aye
Rare praise indeed from someone who feels that < 2 ‘appointments’ a day equates to hard graft.
You have no clue , if one is in Birmingham then one London … then she has the red box to do every day!

Do you think they are all in the palace thick two hat?

would have been more fitting to have a minutes silence , a shared experience with thousands of other, then you could sing GOD SAVE THE KING/QUEEN” to your hearts content. Out of interest how are you showing your respect ? Not shopping or owt I hope. There’s a cricket match happening over the road thanks. The communist heathens !

I
Nah, the cowardly fuckers only gob off on places like this, safe in their anonymity. Get 'em in a crowd who they don't agree with and they fucking shit their pants.
In which case the football could have gone ahead with the only problem / disrespect being the smell of shitted undercrackers.

You didn't see what happened in Hearts game then which is apparently the British/unionist leaning club in Edinburgh....

Who does (did) her scheduling - the Football League- I would have thought even a fawning fellow “thicko”would be able to schedule ‘appointments’ in similar locales on the same day - summat like she did the other day:

11:00 Hello Bojo - Off you pop
[Cup o’char]
11:15 HelloLizzy, I hear you don’t like me
[powders nose]

11:20 Eeeh them 4 appointments has worn me out - I’m off for a lie down]

What happened there kind of confirms the decision to call this weeks game off was right doesnt it?

Ok dum dum , I will leave you in your ignorance

I’m just not understanding this line of argument. If there was any dissent shown at any of the grounds it would be minimal, insignificant and quickly forgotten. Is our democracy so fragile that we need to be ‘protected’ from different perspectives? It’s ridiculous, patronising and infantilises rather than empowers the nation (I don’t mean you are doing that in your post - I simply mean the decision by the EFL in the first place)

Maybe. But you have to think each home side will do something first home game back so really it's just pushing any potential issue back a week or two.

Personally I will be even more fed up of this silliness in a week or two so I can see people just having had enough. An applause rather than a silence is the way I would go.

Seeing as our lass was away for the day I thought I'd use no football as a chance to catch up on some long overdue jobs round the house whilst reflecting on a sad couple of days.
In reality I've spent the day watching fucking terrible telly, betting on German football, wanking and eating Hula Hoops.
Out of respect I was at half mast for 2 minutes.

If trouble at the grounds was a reason for the decision maybe the efl will send out a directive telling clubs not to do anything to mark her passing at their next games?
There will be plenty of other ways for those who want to show respect to her passing over the next week without doing it again at the match
