Show some respect by going shopping, drinking all day, or watching the cricket or rugby instead.

I will be showing respect by sitting at home in a dark room and crying all day it’s the correct way to mourn

I did read it. The vitriolic rant of a Scottish nationalist who, even using the twisted maths of a Scottish finance minister couldn’t get to a majority- even by incorporating teenagers with no mandate.
Calling it a "The vitriolic rant" suggests you didn't read it. Hey ho:rolleyes:

It's an interesting article, obviously from his standpoint which I largely agree with.
The headline thing about 29% wanting to 'abolish the monarchy' is a bit twisted to suit his point. The figure (might actually be 22%) prefer a republic to a monarchy. So saying they want it abolished is his extension of the view. That point I think he's overpushed it.
The one sided view put out by the media is very true.

It's one game and it avoids football getting loads of bad publicity for anything kicking off, people celebrating during the mourning period or even someone like James McClean making a political statement

For me the issue is the enforced mourning on the likes of me who are pretty indifferent to the death of a 96 year old woman. If you wish to forego your Saturday enjoyment in her memory, knock yourself out. If, instead, you wish to carry on, happy indeed to take part in a minutes silence, that option should be available too. Even my kids, who wouldn't have recognised the Queen if she rocked up round ours for tea, have had their most enjoyable weekly activity removed from them. It's just a bizarre and utterly maudlin state of affairs. You WILL mourn whether or not you care.
Ever given your kids pocket money? She may have looked a tad familiar :)

Where have you been told you have to mourn?

She’s been a patron for circa 600 charities in her reign which has helped them raise a combined £1.4bn according to research done by the Charities Aid Foundation. She has been recognised in philanthropic circles as likely contributing more to humanitarian causes than anyone in the modern era.

She also climbed out of her deathbed, at 96 to perform her public duty and succeed the new PM. So, yeah I stand by my comments. Oh, and nice try with the ‘gay’ comment . A cheap tactic.
People that don't have real jobs can easily find the time to support charities. Regardless, they are not a solution and cannot bring about real change. She could've done more to benefit humanitarian causes by speaking out against the brutal putting down of rebellions against out empire, or not legitimising tyrants and dictators. She's all for humanitarianism, as long as it doesn't affect her, or involve her apologising for the crimes that the Crown has committed. Just like every A list celebrity, she has a huge charity portfolio because it's good PR.

Say she couldn't climb out her death bed, what would've happened? Would we be in chaos, without a PM? Nah, we'd be fine. I'm sure the doctors, firefighters and soldiers of the UK wish their duty was as easy as having their picture taken and waving every now and again.

Don't think the gay comment was cheap, just the first example to come to my head. Which group or example of identity politics did you have in mind?

Forgot the tiaras. Sounds like a good do, I'm in.

Again what is it with the "empire" and flagellation about Britain's past? During the Queen's reign this evolved into a commonwealth of nations often with historic ties and shared values who are members by choice.

WARNING - THE FOLLOWING IS PRETENTIOUS ((‘WOKE’) SHITE
Well…. if you can’t (won’t ?) comprehend the “flagellation” about ‘our’ Colonial history we’re not going to have much to natter about.
The “Empire” jibe is (intended to be) ‘comment’ on the (ridiculous) jingoism that perpetuates amongst some (many, it would appear from recent threads / responses) of Britain’s (England’s ?) continued superiority as a nation &/or race as epitomised by the Monarchy & all it’s trappings. The savage irony is that Betty, through no chosing (nor ‘fault’) of her own has presided over the long overdue dismantling of ‘The Empire’ to the extent that she now ‘rules’ over a 2nd rate nation espousing ‘Premier League’ philosophies & platitudes. ‘That (previous) position was, of course, only ‘achieved’ by & through subjugation & exploitation of other Countries & cultures with an ‘irony’ being that (many) such folk are far from welcomed in the ‘mother country’ to share the common wealth, including on these very islands (levelling up anyone?), ref a recent post about Rwanda also.
I may as well go ‘all in’ & invite more ‘lumps’ by mentioning the ‘B’ word whereby British (English?) ‘patriots were adamant of the need to “take back control” (including her Maj) but cling to the lie of our ‘Commonwealth’ of “shared values” ?!?. I would posit the view that the only real common values are monetary for participants with the additional ‘bonus’surrounding ‘prestige’ for Betty & her ilk.
‘We’ can still pretend to be a ‘big dog’ in our own yard but couldn’t tolerate the idea of collaboration co- operation (& compromise) under a blue flag with gold stars.
Thus (finally - thank fuck !!) the sobriquet Betty Empire is my ‘observation’ (provocation) that despite all the pretensions & platitudes being regurgitated ad nauseum she was a nothing more than any other (vastly privileged) 96 year old albeit holding a position of fawning reverence to some, indeed many, despite being nothing more that an obsolete (implicitly) oppressive cartoon.

There’ll Always Be An England”
OR
“The world is collapsing around my ears”

Hope the jelly is Raspberry flavour😉

(Congratulations / commiserations if you got to the end ( or even 1/3 of the way through.

Just remember people, as football supporters we must all sit in darkened rooms with glum faces eating bread and water for the whole weekend to show respect to the late monarch, while non football folk can carry on with life as normal.

Yes because all kids, upon receiving cash, study the design instead of running off to buy match attax. It's the same reason I have Jane Austin's image burned into my retinas.
A sign of the times , i was very proud of my coin collection :)

Just said on tv that up until the last couple of years the Queen had around 400 appointments a year … doesn’t sound like not lifting a finger to me!
400 appointments you say 🤔-

reckon that’s what most any health professional will do in a month

Or Amazon drivers in a week !

As for hairdressers …….

Will certainly have to disagree about this being a 2nd rate nation. This is a welcoming country, a staunch ally to our friends and a democracy that allows us to choose whether we fly a blue flag with stars or not as we wish.

We are a small union of nations by purely landmass alone, our history is littered with things we may regret as well as things of which we are proud but what's important is that we find our new place in a fast changing world and our monarchy can still be a part of that journey.

I, myself, am a product of recent migration and would not be here at all were it not for the generosity and compassion of the British people.

Also, part of me likes the idea of having a head of state that isn't tied to a political party who can be a representative of our values and a defender of our diverse faiths.

Wishing raspberry on me is a below the belt comment however, I am wounded.

wasnt long ago the national anthem was boo-d at wembley, and although West Ham did a great job, Hearts fans did not.

Jimmy Savile only raised £40m for charity so that's put her above him, thank goodness. We drew 4-4 with Exeter on the day he died. (2-2 away at Crewe for the Queen Mum, 3-0 at Cardiff Jade Goody).

You are an absolute joke EFL and Premier league

You are a bunch of Woke virtue signaling fairies

There is no reason the football should be off other than for you to score points and to screw the average joe football fan
A significant moment in history; it's rare I agree with Fallowfield.

Aye
But for just shy of 26 grand s(he) could toss it off doing this:-

Mental health nurse: job description

Mental health nurses are responsible for planning and providing support and medical and nursing care to people who have a range of mental health issues.

What does a mental health nurse do?
Mental health nurses work as part of a team of professional and medical staff that includes doctors, social workers, therapists and psychiatrists. They work in a range of settings, including hospitals and people's homes.
They support people with issues ranging from anxiety and depression to personality and eating disorders.
Mental health nurses may specialise in working with a particular group, for example young people or offenders.
Typical duties of the job include:
  • assessing and planning nursing care requirements
  • organising workloads
  • visiting patients at home
  • building relationships with, reassuring, and listening to and talking to patients
  • combating stigma and helping patients and their families manage it
  • administering medication
  • agreeing and reviewing care plans and monitoring progress
  • giving advice and arranging support for patients, relatives and carers
  • liaising with doctors, social workers and other professionals
  • assessing treatment success at case conferences and meetings
  • writing and updating patient records
  • encouraging patients to take part in therapeutic activities such as art and role play
Shift work or on-call rotas can sometimes be part of the job.

I have no problem going along with the decision to postpone this weekend’s games as a mark of respect.
Together we are all part of a club: it’s not just a business, or an entertainment spectacle - together we all belong to something, which is the club. Across the country all of those football clubs together belong to the wider association.
If there’s a strong feeling that members of the club and the association of wider clubs want to do something significant to stand together for something they believe is right, then I’m happy to do that - because being part of a club is about more than just what I want.

If the representatives of all the clubs and the wider association have got it wrong about the mood of the country (and the football world in particular) this weekend, then I also fully understand that. The people in that meeting had a really difficult, possibly impossible job to do yesterday in trying to gauge that mood. Simply reading this thread shows how diametrically opposed the views of different people are. As such, they would be pilloried by some whatever decision was arrived it. I’m glad I wasn’t having to make the decision.

As it is, as an association of clubs representing hundreds of thousands (millions?) of people, we’ve decided to mark this moment in our nation’s life by postponing our football matches. I respect that, because it’s what other members of my club want to do, and being part of a club sometimes means putting my personal feelings aside.

So I was right then and you were wrong about the 400 appointments ?

Your post about the mental health nurse is just silly , you could say anyone on a large salary could take that job instead.

‘Kin ell - measured debate - Betty Tiara (just for you) should peg it more often😳
You’re correct about the jelly n’all - I was going to put lime but was fearful I may be labelled as some form of deviant nut-job freak🤔
