Is Oliver Burke Sheffield United's own Forrest Gump - discuss

He reminds me of Matty Done. Not much of a scoring threat but impossible not to like. Whatever you think of his lack of finishing ability, we actually break down defences with him in the team.

That is who we compared him to on the pod

A cross between him and Craig Beattie.

We imagined the two lads Wyatt and Gary in the John Hughes film Weird Science trying to make their perfect striker but getting their coordinates and measures wrong and ending up with these two forming one hybrid which is Burke!

We had not even been drinking either.

The Berge distractors should be happy Berge ripped the tendons from the bone op to follow out for 3 months.

From a striker, goals.

Not that disagree with your point. But he does fail where it matters most.
As a striker, yes I agree. Whether that's where it matters most, just for now, I don't know. Obviously we are desperate for goals, we are also desperate to have some positivity and he gives us that.
I think with him, Didz and Brewster on the pitch, we will start scoring.

If we played with a front 3 of some form, he can offer the width we’d need.

And the fact that none of our strikers are prolific means that gambles don’t have much downside.

It's bonkers really, because he struggles to control a ball properly and clearly can't hit a barn door, but his other attributes make us look so much better when he plays.

Very energetic and fast and pacey player. Still quick and pacey come final whistle not like his Scottish team mate McBurnie and a few of the other players who are so exhausted and go off the boil for last 10 minutes or so in the match.

Burke is by no means a great player but his pace and the fact he actually bothers to run about is enough to make him one of the biggest, if not the biggest, threats in our team. He's the only one that actually puts pressure on defenders and make them look uncomfortable
Totally agree, but how should he play considering his striking is er bollocks?

The lad just needs to learn to have a bit more composure in front of goal and not snatch at chances, his pace scares the shit out of defenders.

I‘m not seeing the downside that folk are seeing in Burke at all. Every time he’s played he’s struck fear in the opposition. He’s been fantastic, pace is everything and he’s got it. It’s really good to see pace in our team for once. I think he is 3x the player Callum Robinson is. In a a dire year he’s absolutely a positive. This was a very good deal for us.

We hear about press press press in the media constantly and he can do it- with him charging at you, you barely have time to blink.

The chase down and flick to Goldy against Man U was a joy. He is a proper outlet, he holds the ball up well and his passing is very decent. Yes there are flaws but c’mon in this team he’s easily proving is worth.

Him and Goldy were stand outs today both easily 8’s.

He was excellent today. Shame he didn’t win the game with that chance at the end

He serves a useful purpose as an alternative scapegoat to Ramsdale/Lunny/Norwood/Mcburnie.

This allows our more negative brothers to try and look reasonable by pretending not to be knocking the usual suspects this week.

Get some rotten turnips in and Burke can occupy the stocks this week.

I keep saying that we have some wanker fans, but I'm constantly depressed by how wide they can cast their shadow.

Perhaps you care to offer how he overcomes his footballing disability? ie how to get a decent shot on taget. It is not a hidden question.

Hes an athlete in every sense of the word. Really powerful and i wouldnt want to defend against him. He is lightning quick but his finishing and first touch is championship standard unfortunately.
That’s being kind

His problem is that he is too fast for his brain to catch up. His skill means he knows when to run, shoot and pass but speed takes his timing away. Perhaps if he sacrificed a bit of his pace for the time to finish he would score more. Though the dedication needed to keep his condition at that level of fitness that can deliver such speed must be mentally really challenging to change.

He looks much more threatening than Robinson ever did for us.

Don’t think he’s every going to be prolific, he might not even score but he occupies defenders and is a threat. He’s already got a couple of assists and won a pen hasn’t he?

Yes his finishing has been poor but in the last 2 games he has been excellent, his work rate got the first goal against manure, he immediately won the free kick didzy nearly scored from today

His run, pace and composure set up Stevens chance, everything good about us at the moment is going through him and didzy

And he is NOT a striker, personally I currently think he is doing a good job

Gets us up the pitch often. Causes issues. You know one season he'll score 20+ in the championship.

Well that would be a change because I think he's got about 12 league goals in his career to date!

He can clearly be dangerous but I don't think he's a natural goalscorer.

I would play him and Brewster or Mousse up front with Didzy in behind. Like him or not, Burke’s pace scares defenders, give us an immediate outlet and he creates chances. Didzy is the best footballer at the club. His touch is good, his movement is good and he sees things which unfortunately the majority of our team see 20 seconds later - or not at all.
