Now lets takes stock of Warnock's first two seasons at the Lane. It's fair to say ditto to all of the above BUT over the following 4 seasons he got us to two cup semi-finals, a play off final and finally promotion to the premiership. He also got players on board of the calibre of Brown, Morgan and Jags who were a delight to watch.

Now if Wider emulated all of this over the next 4 seasons would he be a superhero or a twat? Serious question this and serious answers please.

Warnock has had the "best set of lads", "best squad of players" and they're always "a great bunch" at every club he's been at. I'm sorry to say this Neil, but your current Cardiff squad doesn't come close to the squad you had at the Blades, so you're clearly lying.

But no, he's not a twat. He's a club legend for me and his departure coincided with a downturn in success.
I wish him well at every club and despite not really liking Cardiff, I would like to see them go on a run and win the league (after their defeat on Monday)

I would be amazed if Wilder is here is 5 seasons if we are not promoted in that time. Warnock did not do all of the things you say in 4 seasons: he did them in 2: 2002-3 and 2005-6. In between we finished 8th twice and missed the playoffs, and on both occasions we were well placed for the playoffs as a minimum and faded away. If Wilder does that 2 years in a row they'll fire him.

I'm not sure what the point of your question is: from what I can tell most people in this thread aren't criticising Warnock's record: they are criticising his personality or his public persona. Wilder is a different character to Warnock.

I am a massive Wilder fan, but if we don't go up in the next couple of years I don't think he's bullet proof by any means.

I'm not saying it would be the right decision but it could happen.

People have ups and downs, and I can imagine that in Neil Warnock's world, these are a little more extreme and magnified than usual.

I think it depends on the mood you catch people in, famous or not. Me for example, I'd like to think that usually I'd chat and give anyone the time of day. Warnock? History to me. He has very cleary moved on to several other 'big' clubs, so I can't get too arsed one way of the other. If I'm in a generous mood I'll clap for the 2005/06 promotion and if not, I'll jeer him for the crap defensive tactics, poor transfer buys and general knobhead-edness.

I believe where it went wrong for NW & for United to a certain extent, was a breakdown in his relationship with the Chairman.

Frustration & mistrust blighted their relationship, bringing in Brian Kidd & rumour of the appointment of Robson only made matters worse.

I did hear a story from an ex player & neighbour who recounted a sequence of events in connection with the Wigan game, it wouldn’t be right to publish that conversation but I think it symptomatic of those relationship problems.
