Lets take stock of Wilder's reign so far. We were in shit street when he came and he's stabilised the club, got us in the top half of the championship and got the fans coming back to the Lane. He's a Blade, he's disdainful of the pigs and the passion shows through. So far so good and long may all of this continue.

Now lets takes stock of Warnock's first two seasons at the Lane. It's fair to say ditto to all of the above BUT over the following 4 seasons he got us to two cup semi-finals, a play off final and finally promotion to the premiership. He also got players on board of the calibre of Brown, Morgan and Jags who were a delight to watch.

Now if Wider emulated all of this over the next 4 seasons would he be a superhero or a twat? Serious question this and serious answers please.

He's not a twat as such, he's just like a parody act these days.

He reminds me of Ariel adverts (hear me out first)...

They always show a white t-shirt perfectly white. Then invent a new formula and show it against their previous best (which is no longer whiter than white)..

Warnock has had the "best set of lads", "best squad of players" and they're always "a great bunch" at every club he's been at. I'm sorry to say this Neil, but your current Cardiff squad doesn't come close to the squad you had at the Blades, so you're clearly lying.

But no, he's not a twat. He's a club legend for me and his departure coincided with a downturn in success.
I wish him well at every club and despite not really liking Cardiff, I would like to see them go on a run and win the league (after their defeat on Monday)

Morgan "a delight to watch"

Pinchy, Pinchy !

:)

He was a lovely bloke when I met him but that was at the Junior Blades Christmas Party so he may have had his game face on.

I would be amazed if Wilder is here is 5 seasons if we are not promoted in that time. Warnock did not do all of the things you say in 4 seasons: he did them in 2: 2002-3 and 2005-6. In between we finished 8th twice and missed the playoffs, and on both occasions we were well placed for the playoffs as a minimum and faded away. If Wilder does that 2 years in a row they'll fire him.

I'm not sure what the point of your question is: from what I can tell most people in this thread aren't criticising Warnock's record: they are criticising his personality or his public persona. Wilder is a different character to Warnock.

Well that's one of the seasons out of the way. Do you seriously think Wilder will be fired if he repeats this season's performance again next year?

‘They will fire him’. Who were you thinking of as ‘they’?

Whoever may be in charge.

Do you know how long managers last in the Championship?

I am a massive Wilder fan, but if we don't go up in the next couple of years I don't think he's bullet proof by any means.

I'm not saying it would be the right decision but it could happen.

the point I was illustrating is that Warnock took us up in his sixth full season. Who gets that time now?

The idea that if you've met him once you are automatically a good judge of his character is an amusing one. Had you only met me once, on certain occasions, you would have thought I was the most miserable twat on the planet. People have ups and downs, and I can imagine that in Neil Warnock's world, these are a little more extreme and magnified than usual.

I think it depends on the mood you catch people in, famous or not. Me for example, I'd like to think that usually I'd chat and give anyone the time of day. But if you'd met me last night in Marks & Sparks car park at Meadowhall, I was in quite a foul mood thanks to a dizzy bint who didn't understand what a give way line / sign meant. So I'd have probably come across as a bit of a cunt.

Mrs ISC was in a bit of a state when she came in last night. Stressed out by M&S not having the vine ripened tomatoes and only the plain cherry ones, she'd been doing the usual multi tasking in the car. As she explained, the important stuff like checking make up and texting her hairdresser's window cleaner's son came first and how was she supposed to see a silly little white line? It 's only a guide anyway and on private property it doesn't really matter than much does it?

Apparently some old looney with a glint in his eye and a van full of crap (sorry 'collectibles') gave her a hard time over this very minor slip. Well if I find out who it was, I'll send my mate Big Vern round to have a word.

Warnock? History to me. He has very cleary moved on to several other 'big' clubs, so I can't get too arsed one way of the other. If I'm in a generous mood I'll clap for the 2005/06 promotion and if not, I'll jeer him for the crap defensive tactics, poor transfer buys and general knobhead-edness.

A top manager, and quite probably the best manager in history for managing teams to a position well above where they deserve.

Absolutely full of shit, and a terrible loser, as is the way with great managers.

Amen to that. Warnock keeps getting hired because he's very good at what he does - not to win a 'Mr. Nice Guy' contest. Alex Ferguson and Brian Clough were twats but excellent managers.

Now Don Revie. He's a twat. As is Nigel Pearson.

Well I think he was a funny twat when he put his name in the hat for the piggies job, the grunters in my local were in meltdown just at the thought of him in charge.

I had hours of wind up, one even threatened to stab him if he got the job, ha ha ha, he completely lost control it was hilarious.

I suppose I should cut her some slack, she was driving a Nissan Micra and only someone who loathes themselves would buy one of those. Plenty of Vine Ripened Tomatoes in Morrisons, and with the change she could have bought another Micra.

The "collectibles" are no longer quite as collectable thanks to being smashed to many pieces. My invoice is in the post, or in lieu of the cost of the items, 2 bags of Burtons Fish & Chips (I'll fucking know if you go cheap and get the multipack ones) will suffice.

Somewhere out there, the Pinchy Nebula has imploded.

Well, can you be surprised? I’ve just read suggestions that Old Muckanettles Upanatem was a delight to watch. Then, before I could recover my equilibrium, I was hit by a proposition that Ol’ Big Nose has achieved more than Arsene Wenger!

I’ve booked myself into the Nick Montgomery Home for the Bewildered (in S2) for a few days.

I believe where it went wrong for NW & for United to a certain extent, was a breakdown in his relationship with the Chairman.

Frustration & mistrust blighted their relationship, bringing in Brian Kidd & rumour of the appointment of Robson only made matters worse.

I did hear a story from an ex player & neighbour who recounted a sequence of events in connection with the Wigan game, it wouldn’t be right to publish that conversation but I think it symptomatic of those relationship problems.

Which just shows what those twats know about a decent manager. They'd have loved NW at the Sty, as they would CW. It would never happen as they only employ 'yes men' who let others dictate transfer policy, team selection etc.

I think the majority of managers would have resigned had they been forced to bring in a coach they didn’t want. Always struck me as odd at the time – he’s always been a manager to work with people he’s worked with at previous clubs, and this felt at the time like a bit of boardroom interference. I do wonder what might have happened had he just been allowed to get on with the job, given a deal to 2008 after promotion, and been backed to bring in the pricier of the players he was after – Cameron Jerome the season before, Stephen Warnock and Dave Nugent in the January window etc. In fact if anyone of those three had been signed I imagine it would have been enough to gain us the single point we needed for safety that season.

Pretty confident there would have been big unrest,
It would have turned nasty and the fans would have hounded him out, with plenty of in fighting.
Our reputation would have suffered too because Warnock would have been bringing up the Tevez case every time we lost.

The board would have also got plenty of criticism for lacking ambition and choosing the cheap option.
Some would be saying, it’s only at SU that a manager fails but is still keeps his position.
Remember Warnock was given the target of staying up but he failed.

In 2008 just after relegation is the most ambitious SUFC have EVER been in their entire history.
McCabe wanted world domination so he was conscious that to impress the world he needed a big world renowned sexy name. Money was no object and we sort the best out there.

We targeted Kenny Dalglish, Graham Taylor as director of football, the highest rated assistant manager in the game Brian Kidd and then Robson for his world respected image and contacts.

Don’t think we’d have appointed Robson on his own but was seen as a safer bet because Kidd was his assistant. Robsons influence worked because we brought in some top rated loaners, Cahill and Egiogue.

So you took no delight in seeing Morgan pick Tevez up and chuck him to the ground? I did and I unashamedly admit it.

P.S. Just to remind you, he was a centre half.

Appointment of Robson was cataclysmic, a decision which set the club back (at least) 10 years, arguable we’re still paying for this wretched decision today.

Yes, a half-decent one, whose more than occasional bollock-dropping is now overlooked in true Bladey fashion. His elevation to legendary status comes as a slight surprise.

He did a bit of coaching as well, I hear?...

Instead he made signings "for the future".

I like Neil. I know he's a pillock (and a twat?) but had some good times when he was manager, and some bloody awful ones after he left. In a world of bland crapness we still need proper people, and although old big nose is a bit of a caricature of himself, he still makes me laugh and he's a proper person, not a machine. He's got faults, but I'll not give him a bad reception!

Indeed. Very selfish of the man to have the club’s medium-term future in mind when efforts to improve the short-term failed, and awful foresight to buy a player that went on to be the African Cup of Nations Player of the Tournament.
