With the new players I think a different formation could benefit us!

I think we've nailed our colours firmly to the 3-5-2/3-5-1-1 mast. We might get away with a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-2-1, but not much more beyond that.

It's fair enough Wilder goes with his 3-5-2/5-3-2 formation in all games, that's the way he sets up to play but when it's not working for me he should try changing formation later in the game. Go 4-4-2 put Brookes on the left, Duffy on the right, ask a few different questions of the opposition.

Not 4-2-3-1. Its outdated & far too defensive & leave lone striker isolated. Just making our problems in the final third even worse. But maybe a change is needed we seemed to fell back into that mode where we lost that magic or knowhow on final third. Many times recently where we have look for most part toothless thinking ipswich & preston fa cup. Hull & ipswich

Maybe try a 3-4-3 or 4-3-3. With front 3 of
Duffy Sharp/Clarke Brooks

I like our formation, its won us a promotion and so far top half of the championship. So the system works for us and sure we've been caught out recently, I just think it's an overreaction to rip up the plan and start again.

Ye I agree and the issues on Saturday and against Hull were not formation related. It was more due down to the players we had available not quite having enough in their locker to unlock the other team - I'm thinking the chances both Ched and Lundstram had. Players you need to get you promotion out of this league should be putting them away. Can't fault their efforts but they aren't quite the standard we need if we want to push.

I loved the way we played last season and the majority of this season, however I'd love to us play this vs Burton:

Blackman
Basham Stearman O'Connell

Baldock Stevens

Evans Fleck

Duffy Brooks

Sharp

I just think the strikers have been a bit isolated, especially against Ipswich and playing Duffy and Brooks behind a striker could give us more options. It would come at a perfect time as well with the majority of our strike force either out of form or injured.

4-2-3-1 outdated? It is used week in, week out by at least 50% of the premier league this season. It's applicability is based upon the mobility and attacking intent of at least 2 or the 3, not to leave the CF isolated. If we switched from three centre backs to a back four, you would need at least one midfield shield to compensate. There is a reason why CW trusts 3 CB's and not 2. 3-4-3 in it's purist form would be proper balls out, edge of the seat formation that I don't think we have the players for, nor a 4-3-3. Other than Brooks I don't think we have got a player than could play the other outside forward role. I appreciate he has been sent on loan because he is deemed not good enough, but a Thomas like player would've given us more flexibility. Chelsea currently employ a 3-4-2-1, which might work for us, with the 2 having the freedom to go either wide or narrow. But we are then starting to ask a lot of championship level players, regarding decision making & movement.

Stick with the current one.

People are looking for a silver bullet here. But the only real one is new players and injured ones getting fit.

No. We shouldn't change formations because of a bad patch. We need more/better players. If we'd been able to rotate the wing backs we'd have some energy left in the side. I'd also look to improve on them because, as well as they've done, they leave a lot to be desired in the crossing department. Can you imagine what a Borbokis type would do for us if he were supplying Sharp and Clarke?

I would like to see us able to switch it up in games though. Last season we'd revert to a 442 for short periods. It's still a personnel thing though. I'm not sure our current squad are good enough to change so much throughout games given the quality of opposition we now face, and we lack outright wingers good enough to do it.

The 352 system is fine. We've developed this formation because it suited us and now we've signed players to fit it. It would be a mistake to change it up entirely. Don't make wholesale changes to tactics when tweaks are what are needed.

There's not much more to be had from our current line up. We need some pace up front, more threat from the width, maybe an improvement on Stearman/Basham. None of that is achieved by going 442 or 541 or whatever.

Well the only few occasions we played one up top with a few players supporting him I thought we looked pretty lethal so I would suggest we could change formation slightly, quite easily infact.

2-2-8 will do.

Basham O’Connell
Fleck Lundstram
Brooks Donaldson Duffy Clarke Evans C. Sharp Wilson The tea lady

It’s fucking Burton Albion, managed by Nigel “protect the point” Clough. They should be put to the sword before the first pie sold has been eaten.

4-2-3-1, which for me would make sense of the January recruitment: Brooks, Duffy and Holmes can't all play behind the front two.

Looking at the squad overall, what we are short of is a wide right midfielder but I would expect Brooks and Holmes to be able to play on either flank in a 4-2-3-1.

The formation is fine, but the system should change back to having O'Connell bombing up the left wing regularly and always have one of Duffy, Holmes or Brooks in an advanced midfield position. Orthodox wingbacks and a lack of attacking midfielder makes us too easy to play against.

No.

The system starts as a 3:4:1:2 formation and is easily to changed mid match as the management see fit due to the fluid and flexible nature of the system employed.
