Is he good enough though?

He contributes by scoring. There’s literally nothing more important in football than that.

Quite. That's the reason Tufty rightly leaves him out when he isn't doing so, because when he isn't it's like playing with ten men.

Shit crowd at your place today, for the first home game.

Well he shouldn’t be left out much when he scores a lot then, hence his 65 goals since 2015.

The second highest in English football.

But yeah, let’s keep that fucking donkey Clarke on because he can jog a lot.

Give me a positive from Leon Clarke post-December 2017

Today when he flicked the ball over the defender and hit a shot that would’ve gone in had it not been for a very good save from their keeper.

Last game of the season, the very good goal he scored against Bristol City.

He must bring something positive to the team. Unless you’re saying to know better than Wilder.

If by chipping in you mean playing 2nd fiddle in the goal scoring charts (in the LAST 3 years to the £100m + rated Harry Kane), then I guess whatever point you are trying to make is well made.

;)

Well apart from that obviously not being a straight comparison it does obviously show Billy scores goals. Don't think anyone can deny that, it's fact.

I'd also argue he's not effective for every situation. He's not brilliant at every aspect, nor should he be. He's very effective when were good, positive and creating the chances he thrives on. The reality is were often not at that level and in those situations we need a striker who can create something from nothing. Someone with pace would be very useful. That's not Billy unfortunately.

I'm not slagging him, if we had the team of say Fulham last year. I'd play Billy week in week out and watch him bang em in every match.

He does have flashes, he does. But he's far from unstoppable which seems to be the case

And neither am I making him out to be Sergio Aguero !!

But for half a mil and £12 grand a week...........

Pinch.

Your an educated fella. You know your stuff.

I implore you, FFS, give it up.

Don’t fall in to the same category as one or two others in this regard !!

I know Billy has both qualities and limitations, mate. I also recognise Leon's qualities and limitations. It's getting too personal when Wilder cant take off a player because he's a fans' favourite. We had it with Stears [who proved his worth yet again today] for no better reason than he took Jake Wright's place.

You know your stuff too. I respect that, but you have a blind spot in Leon's case. Maybe I don't value Sharp as much as I ought but please don't pretend he conquered the world today.

Don’t try. You can smell the Sharp agenda a fucking mile off. People bitch out there being no loyalty in football anymore then sneer at Billy.

He was at the Sty. Ask the Pigs. If Billy had notched those we'd have action replays every day from those who clearly think he's more important than the team.

Yes.

That’s EXACTLY what I am saying. And have been for nigh on 2 years.

It’s possible this is the sole thing I could bring in this situation. But as sure as eggs is eggs, Tufty has this wrong.

“Which seems to be the case.......” in what? Who has said that he’s unstoppable?

It was meant to say "undroppable".

He was last substituted off against Reading on 27th Feb, 12 league games ago. That was the 34th minute because of injury. The time before that was boxing day, 10 games before that, we were crusing at 3-0 v Sunderland.

So, are you actually saying that Leon Clarke put in a performance in the other 20 games to suggest he didn't deserve to be pulled off in ANY of those games?

Even Tufty doesn't go that far...

Not for a moment have I, or others, suggested or implied anyone conquered the world today.

Let’s not get hysterical about our first points of the season, however they arrived.

But flippantly dismissing the contribution Billy has had ( and let’s say again, 2nd only to Harry Kane, £100m plus, £200k per week and World Cup golden boot winner) is slightly more valuable than a few would make out.

No ones suggesting he’s Lukaku.

But he is ours, and I for one, will appreciate him for what he contributes.

Which, and please forgive me for this, is a whole lot more than “just” goals ;)

Undroppable makes more sense :)

No I’m not saying that at all. I probably would’ve taken him off a few times but I don’t make the decisions and you’ll never find me claiming I know better than Wilder. I believe that Clarke was actually going to come off today until McGoldrick got injured.

You suggested that Clarke hasn’t brought anything positive to the team since December 2017, that’s nonsense.

He was indeed. Paul Walker said so...

Well. he was in the right place at the right time for his goal. That's vital. It's a real talent and not to be underestimated. He contributed very little apart from that. He rarely does. Consistently.
Simply not true. No fancy words or stats needed ,Ive also seen him play ,many time ,and I took my blinkers off.

Absolutely. League goals only though. No Mickey Mouse playyerreservesinthecups nonsense :)

I'll be only too happy to pay. In fact it will save me money on what I'm paying Tufty to leave him out...

Poor show that Pinchy. Making a bet and then changing the terms of it.
The bet was clearly that Sharp won’t score “ten more goals in a Blades shirt”.
No mention of league goals only

This Clarke vs Sharp debate is pretty pointless, I happen to prefer Sharp but that don’t matter.

We are absolutely desperate for at least one new striker, but ideally two. McGoldrick is too injury prone to rely on and Sharp and Clarke have never been proven to be consistent performers at Championship level so at 32 and 33 it’s unlikely we’ll get that consistency now.

We just need more options so we can rotate the strikers when one is out of form. A pacey option would be good and also younger strikers.

Friendlies? Training? You have to draw a line somewhere. Given that we aren't going to win a cup for a while, league goals are the ones that matter.

It is indeed pointless, but it's also pretty nasty when idiots are behaving in the way reported by Loughborough and Foxy.

On the basis that Clarke appears both undroppable AND unsubbable, I would respectfully request that it does matter.

If you have any level of passion and commitment to the cause, it matters a lot !!

In fact I’d go as far as to say getting this right is centric to our success in the league this season.
