Had a chat with someone at work who used to work at both Sheffield Academies. He agreed with me that transfer policies at clubs have changed a lot since the introduction of transfer windows. He says a lot of clubs have done pre-deals ahead of this summer with their current managers giving a list of targets to the board.

As Adkins came in as new manager, he had limited choice of bringing in the players he wanted at the club because it was Clough who was making summer recruitment plans from January 2015. You will have noticed in the last few years that there is much more activity in the summer transfer window than in the January transfer window. That is because it is easier to plan for the summer than for January. As we have many of our current players out of contract this summer I think Adkins has already “signed” quite a number of players for summer (a few of our current players probably will know they have been offered a new contract but they will have been sworn to secrecy).

I am unhappy at what is happening this season but I think it would be too costly for the club to sack Adkins now. Give him this summer to see if he can get in the right players to give us a good chance of getting promotion. I know it is hard to imagine that but we need to stop having a new manager every year or two

I agree, this is not his team. We need to give him a chance with his own team next season despite his underperformance with the current squad.

Why do these Transfer Windows exist?
Who benefits?
Yet another ploy to reinvent football for the sake of what?
Another decade or two and we'll not recognise the sport*, this changed, that changed, then they both changed ...
Make it simple, easy, take away all the gimmicks and fuss, get it back to the basics.

*At least I won't be around to witness it.

We have seen cases of a manager not having been at the club long before being sacked due to the pressure by fans, then the fans demand a manager "with a proven track record", the club then appoints one and then many fans are pleased with the appointment. Things go sour soon after a poor run and then the fans demand that the manager gets sacked etc etc. The club keep having to pay out compensation fees for the departing manager and his backroom staff which reduces the transfer budget for the new manager (who doesn't have much time to plan for new players to sign in either transfer windows)

Agree with you that the Transfer windows has made things a lot worse

Agree 100%

We can't keep sacking managers, espcially ones like Adkins who actually does have the ability to worrk promotion into a side, provided they aren't residuals like we have.

Indeed. But the supporters, regardless of who we support, don't have a say. Though we all know that. Is it futile to believe that maybe we can and will, at least one day?

I always thought restriction of movement, "goods" was something that had been stopped?
Why do footballers have to stay in a place where they don't really want to be after a certain date? They can only move from the next transfer window. So they don't really perform, they aren't interested, they collect the money but what for? The club is restricted from selling, the supporters are frustrated, all because of a designated time slot, that has become "entertainment" for the generation of console football supporters.

The poorer clubs who actually need to sell players throughout the season, will only get poorer.
The rich may not get any richer, but they'll still be rich.
Time for the windows to be smashed in and removed.

Meanwhile all young talent is hovered up by big clubs and rots in the reserves as they carry squads of 40-50 players just in case they get injuries. Being U21 means they can play on top of the named 25 man squad.

Do away with the windows and let teams sign players when they want. Then PL clubs can operate with squads of 20-25 players knowing they can go out and sign someone if need be.

I can't imagine guarantees are given by any party, especially as we're not sure which Division we'll be in next season.

"If you get us promoted there'll be no place for you here - now go out and do your best sonny."

Sammon was a "pre deal", all signed up to join on loan before NC left.

One of Che's stated reasons for coming here was the opportunity for first team football.

There will be a cohort of young players who will actually want to play football.

This is one of the positive roles of a good agent: it's not about the most money, it's about the right club.

Finest piece of transfer dealings I know of that blind everything SUFC have done.

Pigs signing O'Donnell (RIP) and Donnelly from Celtic in the January, by the time they arrived at Sty Towers, both were lame, hardly ever played, spent most of their S6 careers collecting £15k+ week sat or laid down in the physio's area. Great boardroom decisions of our time!!

I just hope that if these "alleged" new signings haven't cost any £sd up front and there's a waiver in the pre-contract that if they are injured, the deal(s) are off.

I would normally be inclined to agree with you on this Silent and have been against sacking managers in the past. However I believe the only thing still keeping Adkins in a job is this very fact - that we have chopped and changed too much recently - as nothing he has done in his current reign has given any confidence he knows what he is doing.

Tactics are awful, people slammed Clough for being negative but at least we often controlled matches in terms of possession and shots, often conceding to the opposition's only strike last season. This year we have simply been outplayed while trying even more negative sideways/backwards football.

His random team and formation selections - changing it up to 4 times in a game - is confusing and oints to someone trying to 'overthink' it and change it up too much.

The tempo he has us playing at is shocking at times. I remember Warnock once saying something about wanting his teams to exude energy from the off - take the odd quick throw, run to get the ball and keep the game flowing. Under Adkins we are virtually asleep.

Signings - his signings thus far have been terrible. I really hope wehave a better Doyle replacement than Hammond lined up but I fear I know what one of those 'done deals' might be :-/

If we do stick with him, I really hope he prooves me wrong. However right now, given the above, if I could get Chris Wilder in I would do it now.

I hope that's just speculation Silent,"a few of our current players will have been offered a new contract"
