Got to love the attitude of Ben Heneghan....Motherwell hadn't even fully agreed the deal, but he was already on the train to Sheffield. He's gonna fit in here perfectly.

Read that and thought smacks a bit of what Slew did to us...

wonder who the villa player on £54k per week who was being touted about?

McCormack??
I would have liked McCormack.

54k is a lot of money. BUT today Villa are paying all the 54k, have no loan fee and an out of favour player. Offeting to pay half his wages should have created some interest from them with no other offers.

Imagine being Sinclair.

Sat at Sheffield train station waiting to sign. In the meantime your agent, who works for you, is not only trying to up the fees which were agreed a week ago but also tie the deal to a player who doesn't even play for the same team!

If I was Sinclair, I'd be lamping the agent as soon as i saw him and sacking him right off.

Redknapp came out of the article wuite well. I wonder who the other Championship manager was he confided in? Maybe Heckingbottom or Rowett? Seemed to get on well with both. Didn't give the inpression he knew Warnock that well before.

Why can't Sinclair ring his agent and tell him "I'm happy to sign for the agreed fees. Grabbing a taxi there right now. Get it sorted"

Seriously though. Why can't he?

I wasn't a Clough fan and am definitely not anti-Wilder but I can't help feeling Nigel would be/was slagged off for going for old players of his. Different manager, different perceptions I guess. I fancy Nigel won on the Brayford brinkmanship though -paid nowt and got his player.

Good luck to the new signings.UTB

Maybe a compromise involving two clubs and the player.

If his contract was 'mutually terminated', maybe we saved a small fortune.

Burton didn't pay a fee, but maybe compensated Brayford with a wage something twixt and between.

Either way we lose a fortune thanks to Clough.

I liked Brayford at wing back. I would have loved to see him play with conviction in a Wilder team. If Coutts can do it ( and Freeman) I'm sure Brayford could have done and I'm 100% sure that Brayford will have looked at the team spirit and unity within our club and wondered where he went wrong.

Brayford has class and it is hard to come by. On the other hand his situation is complex and he doesn't know where the hell he is these days.

Hard for the lad to be amongst the United group for these weeks. Wilder decided from Day 1 he didn't want him.

Maybe, just maybe it could have been different as it was for Coutts and Freeman. Clough is what he is but he's not daft.

Brilliant read. So close to Cole it seems and he will be gutted. Maybe we will be back in for him in Jan. Sinclair needs to get rid of his greedy bastard of an agent
Got a feeling we will be back in for Cole in January he was keen on the move and Fleetwood accepted the bid (even if it was rather reluctantly) wonder if we'd go back in for quina and Sinclair as well

Awesome insight into the frenetic would of transfer dealings. I would expect this to be exactly the same at every other club except for the mega rich that are out there.

What a great managerial team we have at the lane - but we already knew this and this insight only confirms it 100%

UTB
Barnsley were in a similar situation to us as well from what I heard

That's the problem these days. The young players rely so much on their agent, they can't think for themselves. Can't imagine Watford or West Ham would be that impressed with the Agent either.

One thing re the Cole deal why didn't we start the ball rolling last week? Or even Tuesday?
First part of the article says we only found out about his availability yesterday

interesting that there was no mention of any approach for Brooks, either there's no interest or he's told his agent he staying put no matter what...

Also highlights the corruption and differences within players agents. While Heneghan's agent seems like a decent and straight forward bloke just getting the job done, Sinclair and Quina have been unlucky enough to end up with a complete tosser dictating their careers for the sake of his pockets.
Coles agent doesn't seem much different was quite surprised that we heard about his availability from his dad

Thoroughly glued to that read. Amazing insight. Wonder if it will be made in to a Tv documentary as the site suggests?

Interesting that Leonard and Lenihan were never in the final mix - although for months they've been the main topic on here.

Trust in CW/AN !

Fascinating – had Fleetwood put word out that Cole was available for free to bring in interest, always with the intention of upping the fee I wonder? The behaviour of the Sinclair/Quina agent is just bizarre.

Other snippets of interest:
  • We were prepared to sell Hanson for £200k had the other deals come off (I'm glad we have kept him given they haven't)
  • We wanted to loan Thomas out (I'm wondering if CW is having 2nd thoughts on his signing)
  • Hadn't realised CW managed Donaldson at Halifax, which raises my hopes he'll be a success
  • Evans likely needs ankle surgery. What was his injury at Chesterfield again that flared up again in January? His ankle? "He's over his injuries" they said...
Think your second point is incorrect. 6 clubs wanted to loan him and when Thomas said he didn't wanna go CW "was happy with that"

Great read and insight into what goes off...Absolute madness though.
Don't agree with the bit at the beginning sayng fans love it,Managers hate it...i personally hate it...we should have ended up with 3 more if it wasn't for greedy agents.

Because his agent will be telling him that the fees aren't agreed. Of course he could have rocked up and tried his luck, but without paperwork from their end it goes nowhere.
It seems that agent has a bit of control over their clubs, with some bringing numerous players in from all over ahead of anyone else for a small fee of course!

I feel sorry for the lads. Probably tied to the twat contractually, and can't do a lot about it. But goes to show how these fuckers get their claws into the lads from a young age. They are on daft money no doubt and will "owe him everything" in his eyes.

Such a shame, I just wish these young lads would work hard and get there in merit rather than wanting it all too soon. They should be enjoying their football and learning the game.

Agree with you about Donaldson. Just shows that although a deal seems rushed & last minute it has, more than likely, been going on all day.

Have to disagree about your "pot to piss in" quote though. It didn't say we only have 200k/500k/1 million to spend. It just said Wilder said no chance to a certain fee for a certain player.

The way I read it was Wilder decided said player was not worth x amount. Would we not rather it be this way than spending over a players valuation?

I love that this man is in charge of my club

My point was based on the type of players we were looking to get in. If the same thing happened and we were after Jamie Murphy or Coady (just for example), then it would indicate we were willing to spend half decent money. We were however after unproven/young players which tells its own story!!

Completely agree about Wilder by the way, love the way he conducts himself/the club. Professional, but no shit taken. The best signings this year were his and Knills new contracts. We are in very safe hands.

I'm not sure how much regulation there is for agents and their practice but I think there should be more scrutiny on their profession. Its money that goes out of the game to people who are often just parasites. In the end the players and the clubs lose out and the agents are laughing all the way to the bank. I hope Sinclair considers moving to a new agent.

Do you think we withdrew our bids for them and Coady?

If Sinclair says he agrees to the deal then the fees are agreed.
The agent works for him not the other way round.
Watford are in charge of the paperwork at their end and they had agreed also.

Nothing to stop the deal being done other than the agent trying it on.
It was within Sinclair's power to tell him, "Enough now. I want this move"

Excellent read that up there with Roys .. still concerned about money available but time will tell Utb.

Good article, very interesting and does give a better insight. I am not sure Devante Cole and the 17 year old for example were the type of players for us anyway, so looking at it that way I'm not too disheartened. We don't know the amount agreed via email for Wilder to be able to spend on the day. This will obviously have determined the pond of players we were able to fish in.
