Excellent article. Interesting comment on Cole by Mitchell that he'll have done well if he plays 50 times for us. Maybe just back up to Donaldson.

Wilder smelt a rat on the Sinclair deal. Agent definitely seemed to be the one manipulating there given the deal was agreed with Watford days before.

Who is Sinclair's agent anyone know ?
Surely Sinclair should be telling him what he wants not the other way round?
Sinclair himself had the good grace to ring Wilder.
Need to make sure we don't deal with players with this agent again
Roberto De Fanti, sounds a right arsehole, stopped the deal for both the kids.

"500k we won't pay that "

Reminds me of the United series where Bassett was trying to broker a deal for Glyn Hodges for 250k and Dooley said "sorry the board won't pay that"
It was Paul wood for 90k wasn't it ?

Excellent read...one obvious question is if we wanted Cole so much why wasn't he signed days ago. You just know he's gonna have bagged 12 by Xmas and his price will be 2m !

I agree about Cole I think he was a short term fix for us and (I can comment on this because Fleetwood is one of the few games I've seen) he didn't stand out when we played them (also somebody else passed negative judgement on him earlier in the week). The requirement for him will have all but gone by January, I'm not disappointed by this deal falling through.

Awesome insight into the frenetic would of transfer dealings. I would expect this to be exactly the same at every other club except for the mega rich that are out there.

What a great managerial team we have at the lane - but we already knew this and this insight only confirms it 100%

Interesting and alarming read.
How can it be that agents are now in charge of where and when a player is transferred. The money these agents earn and take out of the game is shaming to the profession. You can also see how , when players eventually leave football, they struggle to adjust to life when their agents appear to have so much influence on them.
A sorry state of affairs and I'm glad that Wilder will have none of the devious shenanigans.

Wonder if Nathan Thomas is waiting for his moment to say 'I use to play up front before I was a winger, boss.'

One question though, couldn't Sinclair text his agent to get the deal done? If he's sat in Sheffield train station ready to sign and his agent is messing both the player and club about.....

He probably did and the agent will have said....'trust me Sheffield are desperate for a striker, I know what I'm doing'.
To be fair to the agent he managed to get Sinclair a long £20K+ a week contract at Watford
So no wonder Sinclair trusts him whilst he continues to be loaded and enjoy his life trying to spend his money.

It's quite funny when you consider that the early rewards are so high for youngsters showing high talent that it lowers the desire in players, so playing football becomes secondary and not that important.

I'm liking the sound of Paul Mitchell. Very much a wilder esque character it seems, so much different to the fat orange skinned tosser that Adkins brought in who laughed when we lost.

Fascinating – had Fleetwood put word out that Cole was available for free to bring in interest, always with the intention of upping the fee I wonder? The behaviour of the Sinclair/Quina agent is just bizarre.

Other snippets of interest:
  • We were prepared to sell Hanson for £200k had the other deals come off (I'm glad we have kept him given they haven't)
  • We wanted to loan Thomas out (I'm wondering if CW is having 2nd thoughts on his signing)
  • Hadn't realised CW managed Donaldson at Halifax, which raises my hopes he'll be a success
  • Evans likely needs ankle surgery. What was his injury at Chesterfield again that flared up again in January? His ankle? "He's over his injuries" they said...

One thing re the Cole deal why didn't we start the ball rolling last week? Or even Tuesday?
Yes i asked myself that question, why all this brinkmanship on the last day,its quite obviously only for the betterment of the Agents who are lining their pockets..............this needs sorting Agents should not be allowed to have this much hold on the players they represent

Top, top, top read that.. great for the backroom staff at SUFC to allow the article to be commissioned. Gives us all an insight as to the club involvements.
