Touchy, moi? Nah, I've had a few pints and I'm very relaxed, but thanks for your concern. I was simply asking why you made such an aggressive comment, so thanks for confirming it was a guess.

Phillips wouldn't have been top of my list, but in late January, we definitely needed midfield reinforcement. Jairo was out for waht looked like weeks or months, Ollie had been rushed back and was way off the pace, and Soumare was an accident waiting to happen. I have no idea what proportion of his wages we are paying, as I assume you don't, but I agree it was still an expensive gamble.

We had wingers and strikers aplenty, albeit of dubious quality, from the shitshow August window.
If you’ve had a few pints I suppose that explains things.

Do you agree that we’ve made quite a few expensive gambles that have blown up in our faces in recent January windows?

Yes.

Latst season made more sense, as we were so close to the promised land, but this year seemed a bit bonkers, especially with the loss of parachute payments next season.

I agree. I’ve noted that we often do when you stop with the “Wilder hater” nonsense.

I wasn’t actually having a dig at Wilder in that first post. The big problem is the useless recruitment “system” that allows these things to happen. That goes all the way back to the criminal failure to replace JOC and has continued ever since. Just look at the state of our squad after all the years of PL money. That didn’t all happen last summer, as bad as that was, it’s been going on for years. Not having a real plan to replace stalwarts who were way past their best and who we persisted with for far too long. Stevens, Norwood, Fleck, Baldock and the rest.

So if I was given a choice between replacing Wilder or introducing a scouting and recruitment system that was fit for purpose it would be the latter every time. In my view Wilder isn’t the cause, he is a symptom of a club that is still run as if it was trapped in the last century. I’ve said elsewhere, there’s no point replacing Wilder until the other stuff is attended to. Because it isn’t just player recruitment that is poor, identification of potential new managers is also shocking.

I don't think I've actually accused you personally of being a 'Wilder hater', but that's by the by.

I'm a Wilder luvvie, simply on the basis of his record. I made it clear that I thought he deserved another season after last year, and I thought the clamour for the 'progressive' Selles, became a hipster type fad.

That said, Wilder is not the club, and ultimately it has to be what's best for the club. On that basis, nobody can disagree with your preference for a properly constructed management structure. The issue is, that plenty on here (not yourself), are piling on, with an 'any DoF is better than Wilder' line.

The problem is, getting the right DoF. Look at Norwich (who finally got lucky with Clement), Everton, ManU, Rangers and Celtic, to see what happens with the wrong appointment.

The fact that our clueless owners were easily persuaded that Selles was God's gift to football, fills me with dread about who they might appoint as a suitable DoF. On that basis, I'll stick with CW, faults and all. Better the devil you know and all that.

Not much of that I disagree with. The only time we had something even approaching a DoF was Dooley, and he was really good at it under awful ownership. Just ask Dave Bassett. I think we need one, but we do need to get the appointment right.

And what comes after Wilder? And when do we start planning for it? He won’t be here forever because he’s mortal, and right now the club is heavily over reliant on him, the extent of which we discovered last summer. That’s why you haven’t seen me calling for him to go, but it’s really unhealthy and is exactly what happened with Man United and Ferguson.

Chris Morgan on co coms today. Mentioned he's heard from the players that the fitness work in pre season was miles off what they are used to

Campbell is injured then according to Wilder, wouldn't say what it was though.

Maybe available after the international maybe not? 🤷‍♂️
