I expect we have a few knocks from last nights match.

BBD
Clarke
Souza?

Seriki and Shackleton still missing.

Interesting read.

I'd say it's a number of things all adding together, as to why these type of injuries are more often.

  • these new synthetic pitches
  • games played / amount of games in short space of time
  • playing longer due to ridiculous stoppages, and (prem case var)
  • ridiculous international friendlies and pointless new competitions
  • physical demand of professional football, speed of the game, intensity.
  • Athleticism of opposing players.

All this has changed in last 20 years and continues to get more demanding, it's no wonder these types of injuries are occurring.

The article goes into really good detail on it, covers the points you've made and adds in how tactics are playing a big part - particularly around pressing (rapid deceleration) and defensive high lines (turning / rapid acceleration).

Makes you think, with Hamer & JRS both having had spells out with muscular injuries whether Wilder is telling them to avoid the high-press with intensity.
I often feel sorry for O'Hare as he's a one man pressing machine but the opposition defence always have an easy out-ball to the flanks as our wingers haven't followed up.

---

Also notable that under Heckingbottom our pressing was great, and our injury record was dire...

At QPR, Souza was waving to come off and they got a sub quickly warming up. 5 minutes later he waved and pointed at the pitch. Kind of I'm staying on thing. Don't know what that was about.

Yeah, i had a quick read at it whilst having a coffee at work, it is interesting and about time a piece has been done regarding it.

Ohares stamina and pressing needs to be studied 😂absolute machine.

Not entirely sure the Tom Davies on a 3 year contract was the smartest idea.

RND injury sounds like bad luck.
We probably wouldn't have attracted him to the club otherwise, it's the risk you take to get in PL quality players.

It's a risk we have to stop taking when the balance is so skewed towards this inevitable outcome.
He's contributed in patches, but it's the opportunity loss of the resource we've committed to him.

The alternative is more Bennie Traore's and Slimani's. There's a risk either way and sometimes it works out like Campbell has this season or Didsy did previously.
