League table suggests those we've got are not performing.

Spot on Grumpy. Essentially the crux of my point.

That's all very well but do you understand the offside rule? :D

Best get the salt and pepper out pinchy :D

We are of course kidding Lb.....others on here should follow your attitude on new players. That's what we need, more supporting and less moaning.

If Doyle is to be a midfielder in place of Monty then I can see Monty being sold off (probably in the summer).

we live in hope.

The seemingly imminent signing of Michael Doyle and last week's capture of Marcus Bent has caused inevitable debate on here with those questioning the wisdom of these signings against those who simply want to keep an open mind and give new players a chance.

What we have to recognise as fans is Micky will do his best with what he's given to work with. He cant perform miracles and has to base his recruitment on attitude and individual attributes. Yes we would all like to see an Andy Reid or a Glenn Whelan through the door but lets get a grip shall we?! The money isnt there for players like that and its about time people accepted the fact.

The reassuring thing that people should take from our January dealings so far, is that Micky has identified immediate problems and moved to rectify areas of severe weakness in the side.

The first thing he noticed was that we didnt have a natural left sided player that is fit and as a result we were constantly getting mugged down that side - he signed Mattock.

He then quickly established that we are very light at centre half with no decent experience - he signed Lowry (an Australian international from a PL club).

He recognised that we lack pace and movement up top - he signed Marcus Bent to give us some impetus in that area.

He has also realised that we are a soft touch in the centre of midfield and that we are forever losing the game in the middle of the park - He is signing Doyle (a battling centre mid and experienced campaigner in this division).

The signings might not be pretty, glamorous ones but they have been well thought out and done within our means. We have to roll our sleeves up as a club, get players who can come in and do a job and allow Micky the chance to bring in players with the important qualities to keep us up....rather than jumping straight on his back. The rest of the season is not going to be pretty but you cant expect it to be! We're fighting for our lives. Getting nice, entertaining footballers in to make people clap like seals is not on the agenda.....SURVIVAL IS!

UTB

Good post SC. I don't agree with everything, but (to me) the sentiment is right/ I've been banging on for a few weeks that we have to trust Adams. He has worked with Doyle (and Bent) before any thinks they will do a job. We might not be inspired, but we have to trust our manager will get it right.

Blind faith in the manager I hear you say??! Ollessendro is a clapper

>we are a soft touch in the centre of midfield and that we are forever losing the game in the middle of the park
no mate.. we aren't a soft touch.. it's just that we can't pass for sh** when we get the ball.

I'd put Lowton on the right wing personally, think he could do a job for us there and leave Parrino to settle at RB and make the spot his own

He did well against Ipswich there last season didn't he. Does he have the pace we want on the flanks though?

Does anyone know if we'll be signing Parrino at the end of the season?

He did indeed, christ knows why he hasn't been put there since?! He looked fairly sharp in that game, and tracked back all the time as well, give him a go micky!!

If we get a left winger with pace then I'd be quite happy to see Lowton given a go at RM. Do you then play Parrino at RB or Calve? I'd go with Parrino as he looks a lot more solid and can actually tackle, but he isn't a RB by trade.

Parrino for me, Calve is too lightweight and apart from his goal, has shown no signs of promise at all to me.

Parrino looked keen against Norwich, and generally played pretty well, I'd like to see us keep him on, and some of the balls he played down the wing to Ward were absolutely first class!

I think we perhaps need one more central defender, and definitely someone creative in the middle to provide cover for Willo, and to give him competition for his place, and that should see us through ok to the end of the season, then we can start getting rid of the deadwood.

deadwood?.. who is the live wood?.. might be simpler if you said who you'd keep.. i'd say williamson.. err bartley (mind you he's not ours anyway).. errm.. ched if he keeps up the current form??.. errmmm
