...someone out there must know the answer as to why the f**k EEL was played as a right winger in the second half?!!!
He was right wing back. He's played there before for Wolves. He seemed comfortably and didn't do badly there. He'll probably be the one to play there if Freeman is out for long.

It's easy, this is Sheffield United

Things are going a little too well for us at the moment so things have to be done a little differently to stop us getting to excited

He was scared of getting crushed by the, frankly, enormous Ebanks-Blake.

Forced changes ripped apart the shape of our team and in spite of that Wilder made exactly the right decision. When the other team is down by a man (or two in this case) and is sitting everyone on the edge of their box, you use the width and shift the ball side to side to keep them moving and sap their energy. EEL moved to full back and that's just how far forward we were camped for the second half. Yeah, they caught us out with a goal, but the match stats show 30 shots on goal and 20 corners because we kept possession and attacked in the right manner. Amazing it was only 2-1 by the end of that.

Looked to me as though we moved to 4-4-2 when Chapman came on and because we had so much of the ball EEL and Lafferty had license to push forward. Alot of the time it was just Wright back on his own during the later parts of the second half.

We crowded each other out in the last 20 minutes ,Sharp and Done struggled to get a touch despite 99% being played in their half.

He did ok in that position. Basham was once again the weak link.

Really? We have 90% possession in the final 3rd of the pitch for 70 minutes and you think a defensive player was the weak link.

Mind boggles.

He seemed to be a wing back as you say and whilst he wasn't always comfortable, we maintained a fairly strange formation against 9 men

2nd half it seemed to be

Moore
Wright
EEL O'Connell
Fleck Basham
Chapman Scougs Lafferty
Done
Sharp

i think the difficulty came playing against 9 men with determination not to concede further and we managed to get away with it. somehow

EEL ended up right wing thanks to the two sending offs for them and the three injuries to us. The two spare men tended to be EEL on the right and to a lesser extent JOC on the left, not an ideal situation but all down to their two sending offs and how they lined their 9 up after (if they'd have had 11 JOC and EEL would have been occupied at the back and Lafferty and Chapman would have been the main wide men), plus our injuries meant CWs hands were tied (if he could have he'd have no doubt got Clarke on at least).

That said, that's the best 3 points of the season. Circumstances dictated things didn't go all our way in the second half, with numerous chances missed, loads of corners and set plays coming to nowt and them getting a goal to get them back in the game, I bet many of us were seeing it as one of those games were they'd have nicked a point with a late goal. Thankfully, the current team are made of stronger stuff and that didn't happen, we held on for the 3 points which is exactly what promotion teams do. Wilder called it similar after the game and he was bang right.

Fair play about the Wolves connection mate, that makes a lot more sense. Not his best position by a long way for me though. If ever we need to utilise him elsewhere in emergencies, I think I'd rather see him bludgeoning their defenders out of the way as a make shift centre forward!!
