....and you won 100m and decided you were going to put money into the club to sign 1/2 player(s) for SUFC for up to 50m, and the player(s) is within reason..

Who would you sign?

Please bear in mind Burnley have just scammed Newcastle for 25million for Chris Wood.

If I had that sort of money spare, the very last thing I'd do would be to sink it into a football club, especially one with such a poor track record in 'investing' in higher value assets (i.e. players) as Utd do.

There is a reason (actually, there's quite a few) why there isn't a queue of very high net worth individuals looking to buy or invest in the club.

I was just typing up a huge paragraph on this exact topic but thought better of it in the end.

I get why people want a rich owner but that's like me wanting to marry a 6ft Swedish model despite being fat, sweaty, and balding (my good parts).

A rich owner isn't something that is going to happen for us. It just isn't. Anyone who holds onto any hope for a rich owner should abandon this quickly or find another club to support as this isn't happening.

Chris Wood makes alot of sense for Newcastle United.
He averages 10+goals a season in the PL for Burnley and they aren't exactly high goalscorers either.
He wants the move and if they don't end up staying up they can probably rely on him helping to fire them back up next season.
If they stay up and kick on next season he might end up being phased out but they can probably recoup most if not all back.

£25m isn't actually that high nowadays for a top flight signing sadly. Which is why we also ended up paying big fees for Brewster, McBurnie and Berge.

I'd rather the club spent money on removing those 2 huge poles from the Kop and installing a cantilever roof.

(insert gag re huge Polish gentlemen/cocks)

I wish we’d triggered Chris Woods release clause instead of buying McBurnie. I reckon we’d be in a much better position now. Both were overpriced Wood by £10m and McBurnie by whatever we paid for him!

If I won £100m I’d buy a new training facility and name it the ‘1889 Centre for Footballing Excellence’ and lease it to Sheffield United for some exorbitant figure 😉

Wouldn't win as I don't enter. Do have Premium Bonds though and if I win another £25 then I would bring Dean Hammond back out of retirement to bolster our midfield because let's face it, right now he would!

100 million is nowhere near enough to start playing in the transfer market at Championship level (see the Prince ;)). If I invested in United it'd be in the infrastructure. Get the land back off McCabe or build a new stand or academy. With 100 million you'd have to be looking at League One or below.

They appear to be making a fairly good job of doing that themselves
I have to say on my behalf that I am not just generous I am thoughtful as well, they are only doing a 'fairly good job' I'm helping to get them over the line quicker.

Chris Wood @ £25 m
McBurnie @ £18m

Give your hid a wobble 😀.

UTB
Yeah, we overpaid by £15 m when we bought McBurnie and Newcastle have overpaid by £10m but let’s not forget in the same period, we paid over £20m ourselves for an unproven Rhian Brewster.

Woods will score more goals for Newcastle than those two managed between them in the PL, for their £40m + fee.

I suggest you’ve possibly been over wobbling your hid pal 🙄

Does it have to be just 2 players?

What about:

Billing (£20m) Bournemouth
Swift (£10m) Reading
Lawrence (£6m) Derby
Woodrow (£3m) Barnsley
Naismith (£3m) Luton
Lenihan (£8m) Blackburn

Foderingham
Baldock - Lenihan - Egan - Naismith - Stevens
Billing
Lawrence - Woodrow - Swift
Brewster

Why would any of them come here ?

Funnily enough I actually won the lottery on Saturday. Any ideas who I should buy with my fiver and lucky dip?

A £50m investment is next to nowt these days for the level we want to be at. That’s the sad truth.

You would need more than £100million.
